Bible Note: Hello lionheart, You are correct. Yet, if we go to 1 Peter 3:20, the context here is suffering for righteousness sake! Further, if the ark is symbolic of baptism, which baptism - spiritual or water? Notably, the "eight persons were brought safely through water" remained dry and those that perished got wet!
