Bible Note: I commend Jeff's answer to your question. God is always righteous, and to ascribe cruelty to Him is to not approach in faith. I would ask you, which is more cruel, to kill a horse, or to cripple a horse? After crippling a horse, they turn them loose. No one would ever use that horse for battle again. It would simply go out to find pasture. God did not want Israel to rely on horses or chariots, but He wanted Israel to rely on Him. He could have told them to kill the horses, but He didn't. Granted, hamstringing would be a traumatic experience, but 'modern man' sure traumatizes his pets today when it suits his purposes. We consider animals to be subect to us. Do we hold God to a different standard, should we even dare to hold Him, Who is the Creator of all, to any standard at all of our own devising? Just some food for thought. Love in Christ, Mark |
