AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 6:4 There were Nephilim (men of stature, notorious men) on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, and they gave birth to their children. These were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown (great reputation, fame). [Num 13:33] |
Bible Question: Can you explain to me what a "Nephilum" is? I thought that maybe it was the off-spring of the earthly women and the sons of God. Help? |
Bible Answer: The Nephilim were the product of sexual relations between fallen Angels, and human females. The expression "sons of God", when sons is spelt with a small "s" is a reference to Angels. In the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew OT) made about 300 BC, Nephilim is translated "Titan". The Titans in Greek mythology were reputed to be the result of the Greek gods comming down to earth, and having sexual relations with human females. The word Titan is normaly translated giant, which is why the ocean liner which sank in 1912 was called Titanic. A more accurate translation of titan would be grotesque, rather than giant. |
