Subject: What about event gaps that aren't listed |
Bible Note: Nolan Keck, I really appreciate your answers to my query; however, when it comes to spatial knowledge listed in Genesis (and other parts of the Bible), I'm not so sure that God gives us the full skinny. Part reasoning for my optimism: in the family history of Jesus, the ancestry does not go one father to the next son right after one another--there could be a generation or two skipped in-between those listed--and research bare testament to that fact. Can anyone tell me how much time and what events took place between the time that God formed Eve and the time that Satan (the Serpent) tempted her with the fruit? I don't think so-a lot happened in-between those listings. Numerous other events allow for such spatial gaps also. No doubt, God only gives us enough input that causes us to need to look at His Word deeper. Throughout the Bible events aren't listed spatially in order minute-by-minute, second-by-second. There are time, event, and information gaps that we will not be able to fill or understand on this side of time. We will have to wait until God reveals all knowledge in Eternity (if there will be a need for it). So when events happen in the first few chapters of Genesis, I do not assume that we are given all the information. And, there is information in the first few chapters that give more questions than answers. I do believe that God gives us what He believes we need to cause us to dig deeper into His Word, to ponder where He has been, or will be, in our lives; and, to gain a reverence for Him. I don't believe He gave us "everything" verbatim: otherwise, Genesis would encompass much more of written History (and possibly the Bible) than what we have. On the topic of "greatly increasing your pain in childbirth," I tend to think on how a conversation like that would have continued if Eve had not ever had children. When I'm talking to someone, it helps to have knowledge or experience about the subject in order to be able to contribute understanding to what is being articulated. Without knowing a topic sometimes I look kind of silly trying to talk on it-trying to listen to "babble" is even harder on my brainwaves also. Would she have raised an eyebrow when God said that to her if she had no knowledge of what He was indicting her with? My thought processes, for the most part, won't allow it. And, for God to talk about the "sons of God" does not lend to the fact that Seth is the progenitor of those "sons." From what I'm seen written on the subject, everyone assigns that role to Seth-not that the Bible states that it is Seth. Sir, believe me, I have thought of the logic you brought to this issue-and the thought that I could be totally wrong in my conclusions also is strong in my mind-however, I think more thought should be given to the statement also, because we don't know for sure. Possibly an objective book on the subject can be suggested! Thanks . . . |
