Bible Note: Hi Steve, My understanding is that Adam could only reproduce people like himself, and since he had become spiritually dead through trespass, all his children were spiritually dead as well. Being born spiritually dead, it is only a matter of time until we, like Adam, sin. I agree with your statement "personal sin was not imputed because there was no law to break." And I also agree with you on your other point, and will amend my statement to: God punished Jesus for our sin AS IF He had committed it Himself. Regarding your statement "People died physically because of imputed sin through Adam," it seems to me that Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" says to us that death came in because of sin, and all die because all sin, and so that my death comes because I sin, which is inevitable. Although as I think this thru, to say that we are born spiritually dead is to say that we are born separated from God. Separation from God is a result of sin. The sin that separates us from God even from our conception is Adam's sin, so this is an indication that Adam's sin is, in at least this way, imputed to us. You're stretching my mind :-) Do you know of any other scriptures that make this more clear or plain? Love in Christ, Mark |
