AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 48:5 "Now your two sons [Ephraim and Manasseh], who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine [that is, adopted as my heirs and sons as surely], as Reuben and Simeon are my sons. |
Bible Question:
The tribe of Levi was omitted from fighting wars but were still one of the 12 tribes? IF they belonged to the Lord, why would that make them exempt from inheriting the promised land? Wouldn't there be 14 tribes total including Ephraim and Manasseh? Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Chusarcik The tribe of Levi was chosen to be special they served as priests to the God. They were given cities throughout the land and the rest of Israel was ordered to care for their needs. Their service was unto the Lord exclusively. Ephraim and Manasseh replaced Levi and Joseph. They were actually made up of the tribe of Joseph. I see it as Joseph's reward for staying faithful unto God through being sold into slavery, falsely accused, remaining humble and forgiving his brothers. EdB |
