AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 48:5 "Now your two sons [Ephraim and Manasseh], who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine [that is, adopted as my heirs and sons as surely], as Reuben and Simeon are my sons. |
Bible Question:
Regarding the 12 tribes of Israel, another source I looked at omitted the tribes of Levi and Jospeh. This is where I received the information: Reference:http://members.aol.com/Wisdomway/twelvetribes.htm Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm confused as to which of the 14 tribes listed in Genesis are the real 12 tribes. Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Chusarcik, The “house of Joseph” consisted of two complete tribes – Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh, made so by Jacob’s blessing in Gen. 48:5, where Jacob “considered Ephraim and Manasseh both sons of mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine”. The tribe of Levi were omitted from fighting wars, inheriting the promise land, etc. because they belonged to the Lord (Numbers 26:62 and Deut 10:9). Their towns came from all the other tribes throughout Palestine, etc. T’oma |
