Bible Question: How is it that Joseph, a man of God, would practice divination, an art that was forbidden for God's people? (Genesis 44:5 and 14) |
Bible Answer: He didn't. Joseph is continuing to test his brothers before revealing himself. He was trying and proving them to see if they were still the same brothers and would treat Benjamin as they had treated him. He continued his act until he was confident of their complete submission and confession of guilt, hatred, and envy; to make them merciful and kind to one another; and to find out their true and deepest love for Jacob. He wanted to know what they were willing to do to help a youger brother and protect their father from suffering. He eventually became fully satisfied that they had greatly changed. Note Judah's plea verses 18-34. Here Judah is at the height of his manhood. It shows his generous devotion to his father and brothers. |
