AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 4:7 "If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it." |
Bible Question: what is this verse saying |
Bible Answer: This verse is best in context Gen 4:1-8. This is how I understand the verse. Cain worked with the ground. Abel worked with the sheep. Both Cain and Abel brought offerings to the Lord. Cain brought some fruit but Abel brought the first born and fat portions. The Lord showed respect and favour to Abel's offering over Cain's. Cain was beside himself by being extremly angry. Then comes Gen 4:7 The Lord explains to Cain that if he offered the right offering his would have been accepted too. But as it was Cain was alowing anger and jelously to brew inside him. So the Lord was warning Cain of his heart's condition, warning him of the temptation of sin and telling him how to get out of the situation. To master the temptation of sin by doing well and right. Hope this helps, Joanna :) |
