Bible Question: Where does the bible state Leah was not pleased with her? I would have thought the only girl may have been the darling of the family, doted on and aptly defended by all her brothers. |
Bible Answer: Greetings ImForgiven, In Genesis 30:21, we read of Dinah's birth (her mother was Leah), which was after Leah already had borne her husband six sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. Therefore, the assumption that Leah was not happy with Dinah because she was a girl and not a boy is not based upon Scripture or the circumstances of events as recorded in Genesis. Dinah was the younger sister of all of these brothers! :) As Dinah was the only girl, you can quite imagine her curiousity of how the other women of the land behaved, as mentioned in Genesis 34:1. But all Biblical, contextual evidence leans towards the fact that Dinah was well loved by her family and by her brothers, to the point that they held her chastity in high honor, and were driven even to the point of vengeance and murder after learning that someone had taken advantage of her, even though the man did love her. Blessings to you, Makarios |
