Bible Note: Dear rferg, One your question about the commandments, I would refer you to the Transfiguration (Matt17:1-9; Mark 9:2-13; and Luke 9:28-36). Then read Matt 22:37, 39; Mark 12:30-31; and Luke 10:27; and John 13:34-35. Finally read Galatians 3:22-25. All of these contain, in essence, the Ten Commandments and more. I would like to point out that there were three witnesses when GOD Himself directly gave His sole commandment to them, "This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him." The next three commandments of GOD were given through Jesus, thus indirectly given. There is this slight difference. Now, if you compare the second and third commandments of GOD through Jesus, you will note that in the second there is no requirement for our neighbor (non-Christians) to love us back, but loving back is mandatory in the third for Christians (disciples) to love us back. Though seemingly few, these NT commandments cover all that are needed to comply. What's more, they are all stated in a positive manner. "Do" is more all-encompassing and authoritative than "Don't." Please tell me what you think. wayhunter, 01/10/03 |
