NASB | Genesis 25:18 They settled from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt as one goes toward Assyria; he settled in defiance of all his relatives. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 25:18 Ishmael's sons (descendants) settled from Havilah to Shur which is east of Egypt as one goes toward Assyria; he settled opposite (east) of all his relatives. |
Subject: Why was Ishmael in defiance of his peop |
Bible Note: Thats a very good point! If Ishmael would have been at odds with his relatives, then it would be 'doubtful' that he would have been so quick to reconcile with Isaac and be willing to bury Abraham together. So one could conclude that the 'better' rendering of this verse (Gen. 25:18) would be that Ishmael settled "to the east" of his relatives. Good observation, prayon! :) |
