AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 24:15 ¶ Before Eliezer had finished speaking (praying), Rebekah came out with her [water] jar on her shoulder. Rebekah was the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. |
Bible Question:
What is the relationship of Rebekah to Isaac? 1st cousins, once removed? Why does it trace to Milcah, wife of... Rather than to Nahor? It sounds like Milcah's son Bethuel might have a different father than Nahor. |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, Thomas8, Since Isaac was Abraham's son (Gen 21:3), they were second cousins ... they have a common great-grandparent (Terah (Gen 11:26)) and are the same generation. Abraham and Rebekah were first cousins once removed, because they have Terah in common, bur of diferent generations. The ordinal number for cousins, means how far back one goes to the common ansector. The "removed" number, indicates how mny generations between the two indivduals. Searcher |
