NASB | Genesis 24:15 ¶ Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor, came out with her jar on her shoulder. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 24:15 ¶ Before Eliezer had finished speaking (praying), Rebekah came out with her [water] jar on her shoulder. Rebekah was the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. |
Bible Question: What was the size of the water pitcher Rebekah carried? In other words, how much water did it hold? |
Bible Answer: Greetings. Th Bible does not tell us the capacity of the jar, only that it was used to hold water. In this particular verse, the jar was empty. I suspect there is much more to consider here than at first reading though. An empty jar, a full jar; a request for a drink - the revelation of a promised bride . . . reminds me of Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman. Blessings, mommapbs |
