Subject: Can a single man commit adultery? |
Bible Note: If only married people can commit adultery, then how do you explain Mathew 19:9 "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." The act the "exception clause" refers to is obviously "adultery" - marital unfaithfullness, but the term "fornication" was used instead. Also it is implied in the latter part of the verse (whoso marrieth her...) that the marital status of the man does not matter and that it is theoretically possible for a single man to commit adultery by marrying (having relations) with a divorced woman. I'll have to admit that I'm confused. |
