AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. [Matt 19:5; 1 Cor 6:16; Eph 5:31-33] |
Bible Question: A question on marriage. God's teaching is one man and one woman for life. Some reasoning on the instances of Old Testament Kings (david, Salomon, etc.) having many wives and concubines? I am being questioned by my daughter-in-law and I think this may come up. |
Bible Answer: God indeed teach not to kill, steal and other crimes, but people do. Adam and eve warned by God not to eat the fruit but disobeyed. It is there heart they obey and not God that is why the had many wives even God commanded them to have one: Ge 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Even the divorce is not required in israel but because of the hardness of thier heart moses has to put guidelines on it: Mt 19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? Mt 19:8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. You and me having our FREE WILL can have many concuvines if you want whether it is legal or illegal no one will stop you for doing that, God has a reminder for that but not stoping you physically. It is up to you to obey God or not. God bless, |
