Bible Question: Gen 2:23, if ADAM, man, the Hebrew ish, then what is the etymology of woman |
Bible Answer: Hello, Rolf... The first mention of the word woman is in the following passage: The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." (Genesis 2:22-23) The word is nashiym in Hebrew. From looking at this in the past, I have the general sense that it is the feminine version of man; or maybe by extension out of man. In Him, Doc |
