NASB | Genesis 2:20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 2:20 And the man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper [that was] suitable (a companion) for him. |
Bible Question: It has always been my understanding that Adam was the first man and was a specific person. That understanding was challenged last night by another that believes that Adam is simply a reference to mankind and is not a specific person but a group of people, mankind. What are the common beliefs and proofs regarding this issue? |
Bible Answer: It would seem if one is basing their argument on scripture that Adam must be understood as an individual. Otherwise we would have to see Jesus Christ as on representative of all mankind, rather than as an individual. 1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. Emmaus |
