NASB | Genesis 18:28 "Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the whole city because of five?" And He said, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 18:28 "If five of the fifty righteous are lacking, will You destroy the entire city for lack of five?" And He said, "If I find [at least] forty-five [righteous people] there, I will not destroy it." |
Bible Question:
If you are not righteous according to God what are you? How many righteous people were in Sodom? Were the children considered righteous? Are we born sinners? Are we unrighteous at birth? |
Bible Answer: There are many places in Scripture that do not include children among the 'count' of those who are blessed, punished, considered righteous, plundered, etc.. Only in specific places does Scripture take the initiative to specifically recognize women and children in certain situations (Gen 33:5; Deut 2:34; 3:6; 20:14; 31:12; 1 Sam 22:19; Ezra 10:1; Neh 12:43; Esth 3:13; 8:11; Isaiah 3:12; Jer 41:16; 43:6 to name a few..). So how is it that you feel that it is important that children are not considered as righteous in Gen. 18:28? The fact is: the children of Sodom and Gomorrah are not referred to AT ALL here, not even mentioned! Therefore, any assumption that the children were in some way considered as "unrighteous" or guilty of sin is completely baseless and false in wake of the fact that they are not even mentioned in Scripture to begin with! --Nolan |
