Bible Question: when did ABRAM AND SARAI NAME CHANGE AND WHY? |
Bible Answer: Greetings lisakb, Gen 17:1-22 Gen 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be the father of a multitude of nations. Gen 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee. Gen 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. Gen 17:16 And I will bless her, and moreover I will give thee a son of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be of her. God said, "Behold, my covenant is with thee..". That makes it personal. As we, personally, today enter into a covenent with Jesus by accepting Him as Saviour, we too, get a new name. Not our christian name, but a new name written down in the Lamb's Book of Life.(Phi 4:3)(Rev 2:17)(Rev 3:5)(Rev 21:27) It was a sign to Abram and Sarai of a new covenant that was established between them by God Himself. Peace to you! |
