Bible Question:
What was the need to change the word "world "to" ages "several times through out the new testament?or Why call the "fist day "in Genesis "one day"? |
Bible Answer: Word study … ‘echad, aion …. God’s day to you, nocompromise, ‘echad (first – one) In Genesis 1:5, the Hebrew word is ‘echad. The KJV translates it “first” and the NAS “one”. In the KJV ‘echad is translated one 687 times and first 36. The NAS translates it one 586 times and first 38. As far as I know, ‘echad is not an ordinal number, except for when it is translated eleven. The other “numbers” in Genesis 1 are. aion (world – ages) When you said "world " … "ages”, I thought about aion, which is translated differently for the same verse between translations, and even in the same translation. In the NAS, aion is translated age 20 times, ages 6, ancient time 1, beginning of time 1, course 1, eternal 2, eternity 1, ever 2, forever 27, forever and ever 20, forevermore 2, long ago 1, never 1, old 1, time 1, world 7 and worlds 1. In Ephesians, KJV translates aion in 1:21 - world 2:2 - course [of this world] 2:7 - ages 3:9 - beginning of the world 3:11 - eternal 3:21 - world without end 6:12 - world It helps to have a lexicon and a Strong’s Searcher |
