Bible Question: Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Does anyone know when the beginning was? |
Bible Answer: Hi Mike, I only know approximately, about 6180 years ago or so. Gen 1:31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Everything was made in six days. If you add up the ages at fatherhood in the genealogies, add the times of the sojourn in Egypt and of the judges, add the durations of the reigns of the kings, bringing you to the modern dating system at the time of the Babylonian captivity, you can fairly estimate the age of the earth at about 6180 years or so. Its not possible to be exact, because we are only given years, not months. Also, the possibility exists that kings or sons have been left out, however, in my opinion, unlikely that may be. Even if there were a few left out, this would not add that many years to the total, so I think it is very reasonable to think between 6100 and 6400 years ago, although I do favor approx 6180. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
