NASB | Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. |
Subject: The Spirit of God active in creation |
Bible Note: May God bless you all, and may He always give us His wisdom and His understanding while we study His Word.(Colossians 1:9-11)That is correct but I would like to comment a little on the "Spirit of God". Genesis 1:1 said that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." And in verse 2 it said "The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God (Jesus) was hovering over the face of the waters." The NKJV-New Spirit Filled Life Study Bible comments that the "Spirit of God" (Jesus) was "sweeping" or "moving" rather than staying stationary. The Holy Spirit is the "executive arm" of the Trinity, so He was quite active as God spoke each word. No one can fully understand the secrets of the Bible unless God reveals to them its interpretation (Daniel 2:11, 18-23), but Isaiah 45:18 said "For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD (Jesus), and there is no other. If We go to the book of John 1:1 it says "In the beginning (just like in Genesis 1:1)was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was with God, and the Word (Jesus) was God." v.2 "He was in the beginning with God." v.3 ""ALL things were made through Him (Jesus), and WITHOUT Him nothing was made that was made. Now go to v.10 which says "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him." v.14 "And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt (literally means "tabernacled.") among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." Now turn to Colossians 1:15 said "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." v.16 "For by Him (Jesus) ALL things were created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. ALL things were created through Him and FOR Him. v.17 "And He is before all things, and in Him ALL things consist." v.18 "And He is the head of the body, the church (thats us), who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in ALL things He may have the preeminence.(kingdom)" So I can say that the Father , the Son, and the Holy Spirit together as One made the heavens and the earth. God bless. |
