AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. |
Subject: The Spirit of God active in creation |
Bible Note: To follow up on the "Spirit of God" in Genesis 1:2, Zondervan's NASB Study Bible comments, "Spirit of God. He was active in creation, and His creative power continues today (see Job 33:4; Psalm 104:30)." Ryrie's NASB Expanded Edition Study Bible also adds, "moving over. I.e., in the sense of protecting and participating in the creative work (the same Hebrew word is used in Deut. 32:11)." God in all His fullness, including the Father and the Son along with the Holy Spirit, was present at the event of creation. |
