Bible Question: Jesus turning water into wine an argument for drinking? |
Bible Answer: No. One cannot base Jesus turning water into wine as permission to consume alcoholic drink. Because of modern-day distilling practices and abilities the drink that is made in today's distilleries is greatly enhanced and more potent than the wine that was made in and around the first century. It really did not have that much potency to make one drunk, and it can be reasoned that Peter's response in Acts that it was quite impossible to be drunk so early in the day as it would seemingly take more time in order to get drunk or intoxicated: Acts 2:15 (KJV) 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. The third hour of the day according to the Hebrew reckoning of time would be around 9AM. Paul does instruct Timothy to "drink a little wine for thy stomachs' sake" as the source of water to make the wine came from the local lake/seas (Galilee) which contained micro-organisms that assisted in digestive "healing" |
