941 | Is the Holy spirit a heart of God? | Deut 29:29 | Aixen7z4 | 91031
A very interesting question, but you need to be careful not to be found probing too much. De 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. Moses wanted to see God's body (a visible manifestation) and he could not. Nevertheless, God revealed himself. Ex 34:6,7 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. It would be very nice if you could find an answer to your question; it would feel good. But ... There's Jer 9:24 Let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. What I mean is this: There are some things about God you will never understand. Be satisfied with what he has revealed to us. He is a good God and we should worship him, as Moses did. And obey him, as Jeremiah did. |

942 | A different translation...HELP | Bible general Archive 1 | Aixen7z4 | 89828
It is strange that the above article does not even mention the New Living Translation of the Bible which has been available to us since 1996. It is the best translation I have found, combining the accuracy, elegance and readability that the author of that article suggests should be there. He suggests that every Christian should own several Bibles. For those who cannot affort it, I suggest the New Living Translation.
943 | Importance of doctrine of virgin birth | Bible general Archive 1 | Aixen7z4 | 89795
Where have you heard that it is very important? The people who say such things also probably say that there are some things in the Bible that are not important. But Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him (Proverbs 30:5). Someone may tell you that the Virgin Birth was necessary to ensure Christ's sinlessness, etc. I suggest that you accept it, along with the story of Jonah and the story of the flood, simply because God's word says it. It really does not do to subject the word of God to the judgment of your puny mind. Trust in the Lord and believe his word. If he tells you to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and if he promises you salvation for it, then believe him too. Believe everything he says.
944 | AM I MARRIED IN GODS EYES ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Aixen7z4 | 89335
It is quite true, what has been stated. Ask for people's opinion and you will get a variety. The result is that you conclude there are differences of opinion on this matter. You feel free to pick one of them or to come up with your own. The other alternative is to go directly to the word of God and trust the Holy Spirit to interpret it for you. If you are saved, then you do have the Holy Spirit. By all appearances you also know some of the word of God. Read it some more. Ro 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? Ro 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. Ro 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. |

945 | Where is God when I need him? | John 3:16 | Aixen7z4 | 89322
God is right there, my friend. He was with Daniel in the den. He was with the men in the fiery furnace. And he is with you. Life can be tough, but live for him. He can deliver you. If he does not, still live for him. Before you came Abel and Job and Moses and Paul. And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. |

946 | Studying O.T. is creating problems. | John 3:16 | Aixen7z4 | 89321
The Old Testament was given to us so that we can understand God. So you are baffled by what you see? It shows, I think, that God is very great. Who can know the mind of God? And who can second guess him or instruct him, or correct him? Let's say you think God is too ruthless, or too anything, what can you do about it? God is soverign and will do as he pleases. We cannot ask him, "What are you doing?" and we cannot stop him. That said, we must understand that God is revealing that he is just. He does only what is right, and he is right to punish sin. Think of what he did to his own son when he stood in your place and took upon himself your sin. That is in the New Testament. What if he would allow his temple to be a slaughterhouse to impress on us the enormity of our sin. And consider that the cause was our determination to continue sinning. He asked, begged, pleaded, that we should stop, but we would not. Meanwhile, all his commandments were good. Why would we not listen and obey? That is baffling. That is mind-boggling. But continue reading. Look at the ends of the stories. Understand that, whereas the thought and imaginations of man's heart is only evil continually, God's thoughts for us are for our good. Understand from Jeremiah that God exercises not only judgment, but also righteousness and lovingkindness in the earth. Understand from Moses that the LORD is merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin." Please do not ask that the Lord be less than just. Concerning slavery, and polygamy, and war, please think about them some more. Try to understand what God allows and why. Why, he even allows us to defy him and to ignore him for a while. Meanwhile, he keeps calling us to himself. The Lord has no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that they turn to him and be saved. But you seem to be puzzled by both his justice and his patience. When you think of the exceeding sinfulness of sin, the effect it has on us, how it offends God, you may agree that God must be just and that he must punish sin. When you think of his patience and how many warnings he gives before he brings judgment, you may not understand it, but you can be grateful for it. When you think how freely he forgives, I hope you freely accept it. Above all, understand that the God we serve is not our invention. He is the real God and he reveals himself in his word. The God of the Old Testament is the same God in the New, it's just that by the time you get to the New he has revealed more. Since we did not know him that well before or otherwise, let us be grateful for what he shows us. Let us be impressed, but let us not be disappointed. Our God is great, and he is good. We need to bow down and worship him. |

947 | How can one be sure of his/her salvation | John 3:16 | Aixen7z4 | 89320
I believe John McArthur would agree, 1 John was not written primarily to give believers assurance of salvation. Rather, it was given to help them to judge the teachers coming to them. The word "we" in 1 John almost always refers to the apostles. The word "they" refers to other teachers with other spirits. Clearly, some of the criteria can be applied to ourselves. Those of us who believe have the witness within ourselves. We have the Holy Spirit, and he witnesses with our spirits that we are the children of God. The other source of assurance is the set of promises God makes to us in his word. The promise in 1Jo 5:14 is similar to the one made in Romans 10:13. Paul explains in what follows that we must hear the gospel (that Christ died for our sins ...) we must believe (trust him completely, enough to turn from our sins and commit ourselves to him) and we must call upon him. The Spirit of God uses the word of God to lead us to Christ, creates faith in him, causes us to call upon him, and gives us assurance that we are saved. |

948 | Non-denominational theology? | John 3:16 | Aixen7z4 | 89318
It may be that non-denominational theology teaches that there should be no denominations. There are some who teach that it is wrong to divide the body of Christ into denominations. It is noted that they are at a disadvantage because the doctrines of salvation, baptism, etc. have not all been predetermined for them. They always have to go to the source, to the Lord himself and to the Bible, for answers. However, they feel free to fellowship with, and to benefit from all parts of the body. These folk are likely to quote 1 Corinthians 3. "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. ... Therefore let no man glory in men (or the systems set up by men). For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. |

949 | can you know people you never met before | John 3:16 | Aixen7z4 | 89317
Why would we not be able to introduce ourselves, the way we do here, as in Romans 1:1?
950 | John10 andPsalm 23 | John 10:14 | Aixen7z4 | 88448
He is like a shepherd to us, providing, protecting, restoring. In the one case the Lord himself is talking, saying that he will do these things. In the other case David is talking, saying "I have found it so". Those of us who have trusted him testify that he is the Good Shepherd. He has given his life for us, to purchase us and to protect us. Now we are safe because he watches over us to keep us safe. And he will bring us safe to heaven. In the midst of any trouble, and as he leads us through, we take comfort in those words in in the experience. He is my Shepherd and with that, I have everything I need. |

951 | John1-:1-18 and Psalm 23 | John 10:14 | Aixen7z4 | 88446
The fact that the Father knows him says more than that he knows Jesus is his son. He knows him. He knows him well. Well enough to say, "This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". He came into this world so that we might know him. And some of those who saw him said he had done all things well. They said that they saw in him the glory of the only begotten of the Father; he was full of grace and truth. They said, "My Lord and my God". Do you know him?
952 | How is Jesus like a shepherd? | John 10:14 | Aixen7z4 | 88435
This writer thinks it belittles God's people and dishonors the Lord to say that we are like stupid sheep and that's why we need a shepherd. The simple fact is the Lord is God. It is he who has made us, and not we ourselves. We should be thankful that he has taken the role of Shepherd, to provide for us and to protect us, because we need it. There are thieves who come by only to steal from us, to kill, and to destroy. The Lord is our Shepherd. He gives his life for the sheep. So he is our Savior. But he is also our Maker, and he is Lord. Let us submit to him, and let us fear and honor him. |

953 | Is emotional abuse ground for divorce? | Matt 19:6 | Aixen7z4 | 88313
You have not seen that adultery or desertion is a ground for divorce. Divorce was permitted by Moses if a husband discovered that his bride had lied in making him believe she was a virgin. Forgiveness was suggested but divorce was allowed. Abuse is reason for separation, but not grounds for divorce. Counseling and reconciliation are recommended. Divorce is not.
954 | the bible speakes of man or woman | James 5:16 | Aixen7z4 | 88311
Sometimes the word "man", as in "let us make man", is generic and refers to "mankind" in general, both male and female. Sometimes the word "man", as in "the man Moses", or "men", as in "I would that men pray everywhere" refers to males.
955 | Whatis needed in a relation with God? | John 3:3 | Aixen7z4 | 88310
It is hard to know what the questioner has in mind. One answer is that we need a mediator. Job wished for a "daysman". Paul declared that there is a mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. By shedding his blood on the cross, Jesus made it possible for God and man to come together. They had been enemies. Jesus made peace by the blood of his cross. We cannot have a relationship with God without the Lord Jesus Christ.
956 | The Only Way to Heaven | John 3:3 | Aixen7z4 | 88309
True. Let us not forget also the need for repentance. Unless a person repents he will perish, Jesus said. We must give up our way for God's way. We must turn from sin to him and seek him with all our heart. When we seek him like that, he will be found. We call upon him, for he is near. We trust him, and we are saved by faith. Everybody ought to do that.
957 | forgivess of blasphemy | John 3:3 | Aixen7z4 | 88308
Jesus says a person who blasphemes against the Holy Ghost will not be forgiven. It seems that he cannot be. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts us of sin and shows us the truth of the scripture, that Christ died for our sins. If we blaspheme against him we are rejecting his work in our hearts and actually attributing it to Satan. How then can we be saved? We would be rejecting the only way of salvation.
958 | Salvation comes by asking for it. | John 3:3 | Aixen7z4 | 88307
Thought you would have quoted Romans 10:13. It says "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". The next verse suggests that thay will call when they have heard of him and believed on him.
959 | GOD SPEAKS TO THOSE WHO WOULDNT LISTEN ? | Ezek 2:2 | Aixen7z4 | 83140
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are his ways higher than our ways, and his thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall his word be that goeth forth out of his mouth: it shall not return unto him void, but it shall accomplish that which he please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto he sent it. And if any man hear his words, and believe not, he does not judge him: for he came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth him, and receiveth not his words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that he hath spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. If he had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. They, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. |

960 | arguments-for existence of God | John 14:26 | Aixen7z4 | 83139
The classical arguments for the existence of God are six. 1. The ontological argument - that God must necessarily exist since we cannot imagine anyone greater than he. 2. The First Cause argument - that the creation requires a creator. 3. The teleological argument - that the evidence of design requires a designer. 4. The moral argument - that someone must have set the standards for good and evil. 5. The special events argument - that people have experienced the presence and influence of God. 6. The probability argument - that it is highly likely that God exists. The arguments against the existence of God have been four. 1. The sociological argument - that God is an idea developed by people for their benefit. 2. The Freudian theory - that creatures and features develop by competition, on their own. 3. The challenge of modern science - that phenomena which had been attributed to God can now be explained by science. 4. The problem of evil - that a God who was powerless to prevent evil could not be God. These points can hardly be presented, much less to be critiqued within this space. Suffice it to say that none of these arguments have been found to be compelling. One does not develop faith or lose it because of them. It is still true that faith comes by revelation, as one hears from the living God. |
