83 | What does the Bible say RE:gambling? | Rom 14:22 | prayon | 165454
Greetings Saltoftheearth, I agree with what the blue letter bible site says. Gambling is not a sin however, sin does enter in if you let the gambling rule your life. For instance drinking alcohol is not a sin but it becomes a sin when you overindulge and become drunk because is takes your eyes off of what is important - Jesus. Sin can also come in in my opinion if winnnings are not tithed upon since it is a type of income. I also agree with Wild Irish Shoot - if you feel convicted not to go then don't go. Jesus has a reason for putting that conviction in your heart. Hope this helps. prayon |

84 | Should a preacher be revered | 1 John 2:20 | prayon | 165453
Greetiings Mcp05, According to the definitions below the answer is no. We should be respectful and obedient to our pastors but we should by no means worship or idolize them. They are servants just as we are but with a different calling on their lives. Revered REVE'RED,1) Regarded with fear mingled with respect and affection; 2) To regard with awe, deference, and devotion. 3) profoundly honored; "revered holy men" 4) worthy of adoration or reverence Synonyms: revere, worship, venerate, adore, idolize Hope this answers your question. prayon |

85 | Did Cain marry one of his sisters? | Eph 5:25 | prayon | 165423
Tessie, However we do not know whether that was the case or if he is a "baby Christian" and is really trying to understand. As for Psalm 131 - Adam Clarke's Commentary says: Psalms 131 - The psalmist professes his humility, and the peaceableness of his disposition and conduct, Psa_131:1, Psa_131:2. Exhorts Israel to hope in God, Psa_131:3. Matthew Henry's Commentary say, "This psalm is David's profession of humility, humbly made, with thankfulness to God for his grace, and not in vain-glory." Treasure of Scriptual Knowledge says, "Psa_131:1, David, professing his humility, Psa_131:3, exhorts Israel to trust in God. Adam Barnes Notes on the Bible say, " this psalm was probably a private meditation on what he had done, and was of the nature of a personal examination of his spirit and motives." J,F, and B's commentary says, "Psa_131:1-3. This Psalm, while expressive of David’s pious feelings on assuming the royal office, teaches the humble, submissive temper of a true child of God." John Darby's Synopsis says, "Psa 131:1-3 - Psalm 131 briefly states the humble absence of all self-confidence, that so he has walked. Israel is now to trust in Jehovah and for ever." I can not find one commentary that says this psalm does not address pride. Could I ask where you found that it does not address pride? I would be very interested to know. prayon |

86 | Did my dad go to heaven or hell? | Matt 18:3 | prayon | 165414
Greetings Tyrone, I can only tell you what the bible says in Mat 18:3: "Then he said to them, "I can guarantee this truth: Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." I am in the same situation with my best friend who was killed. What I do know is that we do not know what happened in the final minutes or seconds of their life. You can be 1 minute from death and receive Jesus and still enter into the gates of heaven. And you do not have to do it verbally - only in your heart. You do not know what happened in the last minutes or seconds your father had on earth or where his heart led him. Our prayers can not change where a dead loved one will spend eternity so I am not sure why you felt led to pray for your father - but maybe God wants you to use his death to bring others to Christ. prayon |

Greetings emt2001 and welcome to the forum! Mal 3:10 says that we are to tithe 10 percent of our income. Our income is what we earn - before taxes. You are to tithe on your gross income. See also Deut 26:1-3; Prov 3:9-10 1Cor 9:13-14 for what tithes should be used for; 2Cor 9:6-8 for the way to tithe. Hope this helps! prayon |

88 | How many children did Adam have? | Gen 5:4 | prayon | 165401
Greetings jlguy, The bible gives no exact number but Gen 5:4 says "And the days of Adam after he had fathered Seth were eight hundred years." I am sure that in all those years he was the father to more than the 4 mentioned by name! prayon |

89 | Did Cain marry one of his sisters? | Eph 5:25 | prayon | 165398
Greetings Bibleman3, This question has been asked many times. For the most informative answer go to the search box in the upper right corner and type in "Cain sister". This should give you all the information you need. Have a blessed day! prayon
90 | Did Cain marry one of his sisters? | Eph 5:25 | prayon | 165397
Greetings Tessie, There is no legitamate question that a person has about the bible that we should not concern ourselves with. Every word of the bible is there for a reason and is there to teach us. If the bible said that Cain was married then there is a reason it was there and we should strive to understand its meaning. Also Ps 131:2 says "Surely I have behaved and have quieted my soul, as one weaned by its mother; my soul on me is like one weaned." If you were refering to v. 1 then you have used that out of context as it is referring to pride. prayon |

91 | Has the Lord called us by name long ago? | Eph 1:4 | prayon | 165394
Greetings tessie, Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Joh 17:24 Father, I desire that those whom You have given Me, that they may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me, for You have loved Me before the foundation of the world. 93 | Were there 2 or 4 men hung on the cross | Matt 27:38 | prayon | 165351
Both men were sinners. However, during the time that they hung there one of the thieves learned the truth and repented. He is the one who then rebuked the other for his words. (Luke 23:39-40). It was then that Jesus told the man that today he would be with Him in paradise (v.43). prayon
94 | Were there 2 or 4 men hung on the cross | Matt 27:38 | prayon | 165343
Greetings jalanlambert, There were 2 men crucified with Jesus. According to Websters Dictionary a malefactor is "one who commits a crime; one guilty of violating the laws, in such a manner as to subject him to public prosecution and punishment, particularly to capital punishment; a criminal." Malefactor therefore is interchangable with thieves. According to different translations the words robber and criminal are also used. Hope this answers your question. prayon |

95 | Did Abram see Christ in Genesis 15:1? | Gen 15:1 | prayon | 165305
Olease forgive the previous entry -Greetings bible 101, Yes it does. Christ, the essential Word, appeared to Abram in a way that was visible to Abram by the appearance of the Shechinah glory, or some sensible token of the presence of the divine glory or in a human form that was visible to Abram, and with an articulate voice spoke to him. prayon |

97 | spelling xmas instead of Christmas | Bible general Archive 3 | prayon | 165300
Greetings jrose3, I agree with Shelly - Jesus is the reason for the season but some of the world does not believe in Christ and for one reason or another they want to ignore the "Christ" part of the season. Wherever you see a sign that has an "x" on it it means that you can't do it. For example an "x" on a u-turn sign means that no u-turn is allowed. It is no different when you put the "x" in place of Christ in Christmas. However since there are many, many abreviations I am sure that people just think that it is an abbrieviation or a shorter way of writing Christmas. I don't believe that many people realize that that is exactly what "xmas" means. prayon |

98 | what are the 7 churches spirits in Rev1 | Rev 1:11 | prayon | 165298
Greetings varsha, The first church in Revelations is the church in Ephesus also known as the loveless church. The warning given to that church was that they had lost their first love. Jesus was telling them that they neede to return back to their first love. The church had become more dependent on themselves than on God. (2:4) The 2nd church was the church Symrna or the persecuted church. This church was told to get their focus back on God. (2:10) Third was the church in Pergamos also known as the compromising church. This church was given the warning to repent. They became involved in the works of the flesh. Many had once again become involved in the doctrine of Baalam and the Nicolaitans. (2:12) The fourth church is the church at Thyatira or the Corrupt church. This church had let themselves be influenced by Jezebel. (2:20) The fifth church was the church in Sardis. This church was also known as the lifeless or dead church. The church was busy but not about the business of God. The sixth church was the church in Philidelphia. This church was known as the faithful chruch. This church was obedient to God. We should all strive to copy this church. The last church was the church in Laodocia or the lukewarm church. This church has become complacent running neither hot or cold. (3:16) The 7 spirits mentioned in Rev 1:4 is a reference to Isaiah's prophecy concerning the 7 fold ministry of the Holy Spirit (Is 11:2). Hope this helps. prayon |

99 | Why is a good reputaion so important? | 1 Tim 3:7 | prayon | 156531
Greetings Diomede, there is no guarentee that it does. We want to have a "good reputation" with non Christians because we are to be examples of Christ. We need to let the light of Christ shine in us so that those who are lost in darkness can find their way. Walking like Christ walked and having a solid foundation of the Word is what keeps us from falling into the snares of the enemy. prayon |

100 | how to be filled with the Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 156530
Greetings Lionheart, You are so very correct! However, many people don't let it be simple. I have known people who pray for a few minutes and they don't think they have received it so they feel that they are not worthy of such a gift. They just give up. Or they may not feel comfortable with what the Spirit leads them to do so they think that "this couldn't be the Spirit". When I answer someone, since I don't know the person, I give the simplest, most basic answer I can. In Christ's love, prayon
