81 | Whst should we do to protect ourselves? | Not Specified | justme | 242740
Christian in WW II especially in Europe literally fought to keep Hitler from taking their countries. I am aware that large number of Christians prayed for his death. Today we have ISIS. Even yesterday 12:2:15 more that 13 people were killed by a Muslim couple close to what some say is an ISIS group. I have read the a good portion of the Qur'an. How can anyone believe such a hateful religion. Muslims are taught in the Qur'an that Jews and Christians are evil and deserve death. What I call good the Qur'an says is good. Often I have brief contact with Muslims. The experience is neither good or bad. More like I am totally ignored, or in a store the isle is blocked so you can not pass due to their numbers. There is no way to witness at all. I find the men as unrecognizable as being Muslim. There is always one or two men watching over the women as they shop, and they make it clear that they are there to protect and watch over the women. This is a difficult situation as the Mosque that is located in this area was caught by the US Government authorities sending funds to terrorists groups a few years ago. Here is my question besides praying for Muslims, and fearing what this religion may do just what should we do to be prepared to do incase of a up rising? |

83 | Sabbath to Sunday Worship? | NT general | justme | 242692
Hi Doc. Two questions. I was signed in and could not post a thing, even though I could not post to this answer you gave me. I had to sign even with it saying I was. I can't understand that. Now the second question. and I am really dialoging with a person on the issue of Sabbath Worship, so that's why I am asking all this. No where was any of the 10 commandments removed, and no where in the NT was Sabbath Worship stopped. So which Apostles say Sunday Worship was to be the new way? Does man have the right to change Worship days? These are serious questions my friens is asking, and I am unsure how to answer. Thanks for your help. justme |

84 | Sabbath to Sunday Worship? | Not Specified | justme | 242688
In the New Testament it appears that Sabbath Worship was always the day of Worship. When, where, what, and who made the change from Saturday to Sunday for worship? I know the reason we say we worship on Sunday, but under what authority was the change made? |

86 | one is not with Christ and the other is. | Revelation | justme | 242687
Welcome to the Study Bible Forum shirsly. This is a difficult passage to explain. In order to give you the best Biblical answer I need to know if you have a study Bible of any kind? I think not or you might not of asked this question. The very simple answer is that there are more than three views on this passage beginning with verse 4 to 6. It all depends on how a person understands scripture. The three major views are; Premillennialists, Amillennialists, Postmillennialists. Each of these views interprets these verses differently. There just is not enough time or space to go into detail on each of these three views. There are many books written on each view. So I am not putting you off, so please don't think I am avoiding your question. However to give you a very basic summary I found this in my LIFE APPLICATION BIBLE. "Christ will return defeat Satan, and reign forever! Whatever the Milllenium is, Jesus Christ will unite all believers; therefore, we should not let this issue divide us." There has been great debates over this passage, and sadly it has divided Christians and even caused church splits. This disturbs me as Christ has said that the way we show love to one another is the way the world judges us as followers od Christ. (my paraphrase) I hope this brief explanation stirs you to go deeper in your study of the LORDs WORD. May God bless you. justme |

Bill, others besides myself would be interested in knowing what he has to say. Could let us know as it stirs up deeper dialogue. You would be amazed how many people read these posts so these questions go a long way in getting people to think about the Bible and that's what the Study Bible Forum is all about. 88 | Translation of "apeitheo" in the NASB | Rom 11:30 | justme | 242677
Bill, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. To be very sure the answer to your question is correct you can call the Lockman Foundation and ask to speak to Pike. The phone number is 714 879 3055. Pike will find and answer for However in Acts 14:2 in the NASB the word used is "disbelieved" with a side note saying "disobeyed". In my THE INTERLINEAR BIBLE Greek English the word is translated "disobeying". I am not a greek student and therefore I can not give anything more than what I have looked up. I hope this helps in some way. Please let me know what you find out. justme |

89 | Study bible | NT general | justme | 242670
Luke, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. I personally have a number of Study Bibles. My wife and I used to give the NASB and the NIV life Application Study Bible as gifts to our four adult children and our grandchildren when they reached a age level of understanding. But we began to read more of the study notes. We found that the note in Genesis 1:1f made us change our minds. The note gives credence to creation taking " how did God create the earth? This is still a subject of great debate. Some sat there was a sudden explosion, and the universe appeared. Others say God started the process, and the universe evolved over billions of years." and "We will never know all the answers to how God created the earth, but the Bible tells us God did it." For us this ended our recommending the Life Application Bible. If these notes give doubt to what the Bible says that is going beyond what we can tolerate. The NIV in its newest version is a mixture of the 2004 TNIV which was gender neutral. The better 1984 NIV in the "STUDY BIBLE" is good and is available in the NIV and NASB. After years of reading study Bibles I do have a favorite. THE HOLMAN CHRISTIAN STANDARD BIBLE has conservative study notes and uses "Yahweh" for LORD as it should be translated which is unique for all but the Roman Catholic Bibles. I find the HCSB reads very close to most commonly used translations used by pastors in their preaching. Some like the English Standard Bible, and New American Standard Bible for being more literal. The NASB is a bit wordy and the ESV says "The Holy Bible, English Standard Version (ESV) is adapted from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright division of the Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. All rights reserved." I believe the RSV is a liberal Bible and the National Council of Churches is want nothing whatsoever to do with. So I prefer to only use my ESV in comparing verses, not a personal Bible. There are those who will disagree with my opinion of the ESV. Please take into consideration that Bibles are made on several reading grade levels. The New American Standard Bible at 11th grade level and the NIV at between 7th to 8th grade reading level. The HCSB is about 8th grade level. Just as an example most news papers are at 6th grade level. Also different Study Bible have different agendas A good place to look for deeper understanding is LIFEWAY books and Christian Book Distributers that give good descriptions on these different Bibles. But nothing beats going to a Christian Book store and looking for your self. I would hope the sales person might be knowledgeable about these bibles. I suggest getting the best binding and cover you can afford. I try to buy l genuine leather as they stand up better over time. Avoid bonded leather as it does come apart more easily. Some of the newer simulated leather or leather look covers are holding up well. I hope this helps in your selection. justme |

90 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | NT general | justme | 242654
FytRobert, Hi brother, Scripture does not say what the church is to do in either case. However as a matter of courtesy the Pastor for one sure better go visit with the family of the loved one who passed. Generally they assist the family in any area he is welcomed to help in, be that being at the visitation, preaching the funeral and graveside services. Generally the church has a dinner after the services at the church and takes meal to the family for a couple of meals. Follow up is strictly depending on the Pastor. When a non-member dies that all depends upon the family of the loved one and their wishes. If the Pastor does the services most always he is given a sum for his services. If he feels circumstances warrant not accepting anything for his services that is his choice. Often the funeral home includes something for his services included in the cost of the funeral service. As for the church it is totally at the pastors suggestion to who ever is in charge of things like this. Above all else this is a time when people are more open to hear the Gospel as usually they may not be. Perhaps many pastor's feel this is a real opportunity for showing the love of Christ. In my personal experience, there were times when children were involved in a tragedy that resulted in their passing. A few were SIDS and one an accident. These are the most difficult to do. There is complete assurance that these little ones are in the LORDs presents and that's so beautiful. But the parents and other relative's are heart broken, special ministering is needed then often for sometime later. Parents often blame each other for the death of a child. It is not uncommon for a divorce to happen when a child dies. A wise minister knows this and takes caution to work with a couple in counseling the couple to help them to prevent blaming and give then support. No Pastor can be held accountable for how a couple copes with such loss and a couples reaction. However if a pastor is ill equipped and does little to minister then he is seriously accountable for being so inept. Being group called to be a church has a responsibility to the community, as well as does the pastor, because they are Jesus Christ to the community wher the LORD has planted them to minister the GOSPEL. Amen. justme |

Tdenh96: If you are a Marine thank you for your service, and welcome to the Study Bible Forum. Joshua trees also grow in the Antelope Valley, the high desert above L A. I lived there from 1953 until 1985. By that time many of those old beautiful odd trees were gone due to so many homes being built. I was not sure what your question was, so if you could repost it we will be gland to answer. Speaking of the gates of hell....have you removed you ticket to go there? I sure hope you know my Jesus. You know He loves so much he paid the price for our sins. Have you made Jesus your Lord yet? If not may I tell you more? Won't you write back and tell us more about yourself. I'll be looking for your post. justme |

93 | Cain feared who would kill him? | Gen 4:13 | justme | 242606
Doc. very good. It stans to reason that we have no clear understanding of the time frame in years, that all this took place. These type of issues that lie behind the clear out front details that I think for a better term are "digging for gold nuggets". This really makes "Reading the Bible for all it's worth" as the Bible Answer man says. Thanks for making this a very interesting dialogue. justme |

95 | What would you do? | 2 Pet 2:13 | justme | 242583
Doc: I sincerely thank you and all who have been praying for my health. As it stands my clots are cooled down and are not collecting. Please pray this cooling down period stays for years to come. I pray it' so. Most of those in attending me felt that would not happen, so they were able to see us praise the Lord for this wonderful blessing. The Lord be praised for ever and ever. How many of you have been asked or heard the question by someone "where did Cain get his wife?" But more recently seeing people in church asking about Does the Blood Moons Jesus is now coming? Or about this so called Rabbi selling books about the end times. I feel sorry for people who are blown about by these preachers that get on a fanciful kick, to get Biblically ignorant people so worried so they will buy the latest book on the end of times. I have thought for many years if you want really large crouds preach on revelation and how the end of times is going to come so soon and you better buy this book so you will know what to look for. The ONLY book a genuine believer needs to know is the Bible. To become able to understand the Bible a person has to become a student, thus study the Bible. This as many of you know takes a desire to want to learn as much as you can about the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. I have come to a new way to answer those who have a question about the Bible. Instead of giving an answer or quoting a verse, I now ask the person if they have a Bible. If they say yes I write the verses on a paper, or as we are I will get my Bible and turn to the verse and have them read it. Giving quick answers does not teach anyone anything. I genuinely want to help people grow and have some confidence about how to look up places in the Bible/ Next Sunday when the pastor gives ta verse watch and see how many people can't find the place in the Bible. I see some who don't even try to look up what the pastor is preaching from. Sadly we have people in our churches that are more than 20 year old Christians who are still infants. They have no grasp of what is expected by the Lord for them as Christians. They have said a sinners prayer long time ago, and they are sure of their salvation, because their pastor said so at that time. One only has to watch some TV preacers in what might be called an alter call. They tell the people just say this prayer with me. Then they are told to call and tell us that you just said this prayer, and we will send a booklet to you. Not a word is said about repenting, or reading the Bible. When we see these Rabbi preachers, and the stirring up people with false fear just to buy and read their books we as mature Christians need o be willing to stand up and call it what it is, false teaching, for monetary benefit. So even these false teachers can be used to turn people to the real Jesus Christ. Blessings to you all. justme |

In recent days we have witnessed an elected State Official refuse to obey a Supreme Court order. That High Court decision violated what the elected officials Christian belief in what the Bible says to them. this causes me to question what I would be willing to say "no that is against what the Bible says". I question at place and time will Churches in the United States have to defend what the Bible says against those who are anti-Christian, anti-church anti-Bible, anti-religion, anti-God? I believe as Christians we are facing a time of oppression at the least. The book FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS is a book worthy of every Christian to peruse over once in a while. In FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS many actual events of Christian's suffering for their faith are recorded for our encouragement to stay faithful. I feel that even today many are suffering for their steadfastness faith in the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Here is my question. If the United States government took away our religious freedom of speech, and worship, limiting what your Pastor can preach (example Romans 1) like what has happened in most countries in Europe and in Canada; what is your Biblically based belief, and thinking on what you should do? Please use Bible verses to base your answer. justme |

Brother Rik, Wow a lot has changes from when you first signed in, way to go. I was afraid that you might drop out. But you have stuck in with it. Rik that's just the beginning, ib "following" Jesus, do you now understand what "follow" means? The becoming a Christ like believer is not accomplished in a day or a week it is one second built on the next. Year after year we grow into maturity, but no one every reaches perfection. Why? We have the OSN (my term) Old Sinful Nature. Bless you Brother Rik. Colossians 4:2 "devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving." HCSB justme |

100 | 1689 Confession 1st or second? | Not Specified | justme | 242539
I have heard and read some mention about "THE LONDON BAPTIST CONFESSION OF FAITH" of 1689. When I looked it up, there is a second confession of the 1689 as well. I looked for a complete Confession to print from the web site. However what I found was a huge number of sections. Is there a place that has the confession where it can be printed? Is there a short summary version of the Confession? Thanks, justme |
