81 | Take up another's offense or not? | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 206158
While I agree one should get both sides of the story; the bible does talk about justice for children and widows, the poor, those people who need help. Each case should be looked at in its context and then search scripture for appropriate application. There is a verse about strife. Sometimes if not most times its best to stay out of arugments that are not really that important. Prov 26:17 Like one who takes a dog by the ears Is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him. I heard someone say sometime, we should chose our battles carefully. Blessings, Val |

Just because people happen to disagree with a point of view does not give you the go ahead to judge our motives. You cannot see our hearts so your implication is false. It is very offensive. Please stop.

90 | how can we minister to homosexuals | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 209130
Greetings Doc, I just wanted to tell you something I discovered one time in witnessing to a person who would not give up a particular sin. I forgot which book I was studying at the time but the point was that a person who has the Holy Spirit will be convicted of sin. I ask during this time if that person was ever convicted that what they were doing, since the bible said it was wrong, were they ever convicted that what they were doing was wrong. Upon saying no I then said well maybe you don't have the Holy Spirit because the bible says if you do have the Holy Spirit, He will convict you of sin. To make a long story short the person did forsake that besetting sin. All praise to the Lord. I just wanted to share that with you. Blessings Val |

91 | Jesus and the ruling Powers | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 209155
You might want to contrast the character of Jesus who was sinless with the character of the ruling powers - the Sadducees and the Pharisees. You can do this by reading the gospels and marking each in a different color. Then writing out the specific characteristics of each. The nature of the Kingdom of God sounds like the contrast of the Sadducees and Pharisees wanted to keep their earthly "kingdom", power, etc. where Christ Jesus had a heavenly kingdom. You could contrast the earthly kingdom which was power, status, control, etc. with the heavenly kingdom which was holy, righteous, etc. Hope this helps - Val
92 | God Punished New Orleans with Katrina | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 209301
Yes I think so. I will tell you my reason why. I have studied the old testament in depth; not all of it but many books. Looking at the relationship that the Lord had with Israel I saw that they were blessed when they obeyed the Lord and they were cursed when they did not. Also looking at the pagan nations, I saw that the Lord punished them for their wickedness. Before the punishment the Lord always sent warnings. Plenty of them. There came a time though when the warnings stopped and the punishment came. Always the innocent suffered along with the wicked. The Lord has always had a remnant. He cared for them through the judgment. I do not have to fear because the Lord has promised that He will never leave me nor forsake me. In all circumstances I am to trust and obey Him. Bible passages: Genesis,Exodus,Leviticus,Numbers, Deuteronomy, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, the minor prophets and the major prophets. Blessings, Val |

Hi Brad, I don't want to argue, ok. I listed why this was my opinion. The questioner asked what do you think. I am not following your second paragraph, a worse works mentality. What does that mean? Stalin is before my time but I heard he is gone. Mao is he still around? The wicked will be punished I think. What is that saying, payday someday. I believe the bible says that the Lord is no respecter of persons. That is why I think he deals with wickness. It is His decision when and where not mine so it really doesn't matter what I think who is more deserving of punishment. As to God allowing bad things to happen, that is the mystery no one knows why but as I said in my last post "Trust and Obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey" God is in control. Individuals make up a nation. Again I would refer you to the passages I mentioned. And yes all wicked people and nations should fear the Lord. As Hebrews says if they do not repent all that is left is judgment. Let's agree to disagree. I don't want to start a fight on here and the thread turn ugly. Lets move on. Thanks - Val |

Hi WOS, I didn't mean to upset you. I was giving my sincere opinion. The questioner asked what do you think? I answered her honestly and gave my reasons why. Read the books of the bible I mentioned and watch the relationships between God and the various people and people groups. Then I will discuss it with you. When we get to heaven the Lord will let us know the correct answer. You believe you had the correct answer to the question. Go for it but just because I gave a different answer don't belittle me, brother. We had a long thread about lying didn't we so I told the truth and you are trying to crucify me. Chill as the young people say. Lets agree to disagree and lets drop this thread now since it is getting ugly. Val |

Most Honorable Hank, Please forgive me if I offended you. That was not my intend. I did not read the other posts. I have many responsibilities and just do not have the time in the day to finish them. I answered the original question. I did not read anyones answer. Maybe the question should have been deleted that way we wouldn't be offering up speculation. My opinion was based on how God had dealt with individuals and nations in the old testament books which I mentioned. I know this is an unpopular answer but I believe the scriptures back it up. Since the response to my answer was very negative I decided to stop the thread. I could do a study and give you the answers to my conclusion but I don't have time. I think the same response comes when we think that God is somehow far away and not running the universe. Every time something bad happens to me I always ask myself did I do something to contribute to it. Usually the answer is yes. I don't know why God should chose to deal differently with us today than the way He dealt with the first peoples. I could tell you about Israel and its good and bad kings. How God rewarded the good kings and how he punished the bad kings and how he punished the good kings when they did something bad. I have studied hundreds of hours and was not flippant about my answer. It makes me upset when people say God sends disease on people but when I look at the scriptures thats exactly what happened. Look at Job. In the end God didn't tell him why He did it just that it was His right and who was Job to question him. I could tell you about Nebuchadner who the Lord punished for taking credit for his glory and after he was punished He praised God and said it is the Lord who raises up kings and puts them down. I believe God is good. I don't know why bad things happen. In the end I have to simply trust him. I have seen many of my loved ones and friends suffer. Do I blame God? No. But to say that the devil is in control is false. He is not. God is in control. Look at Saul and I could find many other examples that is why I think everyone should read and study the bible for themselves. Since the bible does not say specifically Katrina this or that, we can't say 100 percent if it was or wasn't God's judgment. Everyone else's answer was their opinion too. Jump on them too. |

In an interview given by Pastor John McArthur he addresses this topic . The entire interview can be read at his website Grace to You under the title “Hurricane Katrina Interview”. He uses selected scriptures. It is a most interesting read. Here is one portion: JOHN: Yeah, I think in the things that we've seen, there is mercy mixed with judgment. But that's characteristic of God because, and I go back to this, Phil, if God wanted to destroy all sinners, He can destroy all sinners. I mean, He can do that and He will. There will come a day when this...this world burns up and everybody on it goes. Until that time, God is by nature, the Bible says, a Savior. He is by nature compassionate. He is by nature merciful so that these disasters are the exception and not the rule. With the single sort of exception of the great Flood of Genesis chapter 6, all these other judgments are partial, limited judgments. But they illustrate what all men deserve immediately. But God in His judgment and His justice always demonstrates His mercy because this is the time when God is manifesting Himself as a Savior. And so these things come as warnings. – (John McArthur) |

99 | how can we minister to homosexuals | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 209650
Doc, I don't believe Jeff ever said in his post that a homosexual could remain in his sins (lifestyle) if he got saved. I think that is why this thread is so confusing. I took from his point and I quote him "Recognizing false teaching (and that by the fruit) and judging the eternal state of another is two very different things." I agree with him on this point because as the scriptures say man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. Thus, God is the only judge who can give a right judgment. When we take that upon ourselves we do an injustice to God putting ourselves on His level. Only God can judge the eternal state of a person. We do not have that divine power and insight. We can think we know where a specific person will go but we are told to witness and warn not give a final judgment which we cannot do anyway because we are looking at the outward appearance not at the heart. Blessings - Val |

I recommend starting in Genesis and working my way through to Revelation. Each chapter builds upon another. An excellent in depth bible study is called Precept Bible Studies. They have their own website. Kay and Jack Arthur along with their staff have written these studes in the past 30 plus years they have been in the ministry. They also have classes across the U.S and abroad. You may check to see if there is a class near you. These classes suggest five hours a week homework. The class meets once a week. The first hour is devoted to class discussion of the homework. The second hour is a video presenting the material. The fellowship that you will have with other belivers is precious. The discussion helps you to understand and remember the truths of scripture. The NASB inductive study bible may be purchased at this site. Also Preceptaustin is a good site for excellent online free resources. Blessings, Val 2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. |
