81 | How to "win the world" ? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 105342
Good Morning Searcher56 - You have observed some important points; I also liked your reply to Larry. I agree, we have made the Lord "user friendly" with the emphasis on "user." This disturbs me, for I perceive a lack of understanding of God's AWESOME HOLINESS in our midst. As I consider this, the love of God and the forgivness I have in Christ becomes even MORE AMAZING! We deprive people of this when we make Jesus too "familiar." Can one really worship a friend? Is God our friend? (I'll post this as a question) As I see it, there is a big problem with the lack of discipleship in many churches. The result of an encounter with Jesus should produce a changed life - we should see the body functioning as God designed it - each one using his/her gifts for mutual edification. 1 Cor 14:12 Sadly, as you have observed, some "gifts" are deemed more important than others . . . Prov 19:26 Blessings on your day! mommapbs |

Great verses Kalos, indeed we can be friends of God, but is HE ever called OUR friend? I struggling a bit with the "familiarity" we seem to bring into our relationship with God as opposed to intimacy.

Greetings Larry - last I looked, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." (Gal 3:28)No aplogy needed! Welcome to the Forum. Brother Hank aksed that you consider enlightening us "old timers" a bit - please go to "update user information" (under Resources to the left) and fill out your personal profile. This helps us understand and get to know one another a bit more here in cyber churchspace! As far as "preaching" goes, that is not my calling! But I do endeavor to use the gifts that God has blessed me with to edify and encourage the body, as well as those who perhaps are not yet of the body who God places in my life. I'm glad that you are in a place where intimacy is promoted. My church "seems" to be blessed of God, but for how long is the question. Right now, discipleship is taking back seat to numbers, programs and facilities. Prayer has been relegated to the basement of a building - but each time I go, I am encouraged and blessed as I enter the presence of the King with other dear saints. Prayer matters; it moves the heart of God. A far as expounding on "intimacy" with God - either you know about Him or you KNOW Him . . . "Thus says the LORD, 'Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,' declares the LORD." Jer 9:23-24. Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Rowdy and welcome to the Forum - I am a little confused - this "supplement" was posted by Rowdy and the original post was submitted by JChricton. Are you both? Why the change of screen name? How about completeing your User Info (look to the left under "Resources") so we can learn a little more about you. I hope you will not let the sins of a few influence what God is able to do! Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings Rowdy - thanks for taking the time to share a little of yourself with us in the User Info section! I hope that you will be blessed as you begin maneuvers (a little pun or fun here!) Thank you for serving our country. Blessings, mommapbs PS: You may be challenged, in your "conservative" approach to faith, to step out a little of your comfort zone - but IT IS WORTH IT! |

Welcome to the Forum Brian! Your observations are indeed reflective of the "American Church!" Yes, it is sad to see us attacking one another. But this is just another reminder of how the world has influenced the church instead of the other way around.(Romans 12:2) I trust that you will be blessed by our discussions and continue to contribute your insight into God's Word and His activity in our midst. Blessings, mommapbs PS: Please tell us a little about you! Go to the "Resources" column on the left and click on Update User Info. Thanks! |

EdB, you wrote, "Churches will go to most any measure to draw more people in but in most cases they do not have resources in place to disciple them once they do come in." AMEN! Presently, my church has grown in NUMBER by about 20 percent. We have outgrown our present facility and are building a HUGE "worship center" nearby to accomodate this "growth." But as you note, there is little or no vehicle in place to disciple all that enter in. We have "small groups" BUT, these tightly controlled, they are "arranged" and "programmed" just like our morning "worship" services. As you can see, I'm a tad bit discouraged. . . but there is hope, for the top item on our prayer list for the body is DISCIPLESHIP! Everything starts with prayer; so I know I am in the right place there! mommapbs |

Greetings FytRobert! It is good to hear from you again. EdB gave you some solid advice. I would like to add my two cents worth though. Prior to any decision, prayer (and much prayer, I think) is in order! "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." James 5:16b May God bless you and your church as you consider the Lord's will . . . mommapbs |

89 | Does Satan know my thoughts? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108609
Searcher offered these Scriptures in an earlier discussion (see post #68) ... Psa 139:2, Jer 12:3, Matt 9:4, Luke 9:47 ... God knows our thoughts ... Satan cannot. Mommapbs writes: I have heard it said that when we are aware of Satan's attempts to gain our attention, we must AUDIBLY rebuke him, just as Jesus did in Mt 16:23. |

Greetings! Have you ever noticed that by listening to their speech, you can determine a person's origin? Folks from Brooklyn sound much different from those who hail from New Orleans. Those from "down under" sound different from those "across the pond" or even our friends "north of the border." And let's not forget those who speak English as a second language. We are all speaking the same language are we not? But the way our "tongues" are trained to pronounce words may affect they way those words "sound"to others. Basically, the words (language) are the same, but the pronounciations differ. I suspect that this is what the Bible is addressing here. Does this make sense to you? Blessisngs, mommapbs |

91 | Citron Wood Rev. 18:12 | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108684
Greetings Vern! A "Google" web search yielded this information which I have copied for you here: The identity of the "citron wood" (NIV), translated "thyine wood" in other translations from the Greek thuinos. Thyine wood is the most obscure timber in the New Testament and its true identity is not known. It has been suggested that it might be the wood of an evergreen found in the Mahgreb, Tetriclinus articulata (Cupressaceae), a relative of the eastern white cedar, Thuja occidentalis. The wood of Tetraclinus is fragrant and the resin has been used to make a varnish. Some images of T. articulata can be seen at http://www.dipbot.unict.it/fito_new/territori/distrmelitense/tetraclinis_articulata.html The following from Greek scholar Eleanor Irwin (personal communication) is helpful. Thyine (GK. thyinos) is an adjective from thyon, the name of a tree. Theophrastus says that it is a hard wood tree like the wild cypress and was known for lasting a long time. It is native to Cyrene in North Africa and the area near the temple of Zeus Ammon, a famous oracle in North Africa. It had been used for roofing (like cedar shakes?). The way Theophrastus mentions this indicates that this was no longer the case. The wood was either too scarce or too expensive - or perhaps both. It was used for making valuable articles. It did not take as high a polish as cypress. The Loeb edition of Theophrastus has a list of Greek plants and their scientific equivalents done by Sir William Thiselton-Dyer who was the director of Kew Gardens in London at the beginning of this century. (He was not always right, even so). He says the thyon tree is Callitris quatravalvis. The name of the tree "thyon" "thyinos" suggests that it was scented. From Revelation, it probably wasn't native to Israel and the use of "all" (pan thyinon) may indicate that it meant scented wood in general and not a specific tree. I noticed that various versions translate "all kinds of scented wood." I hope this helps. mommapbs |

Indeed, only God can make a tree! And how thankful I am for this and for the "tree" that went into making us what we are - "oaks of righteousness" (Is 61:3)! From one tree to another . . . "For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit." 94 | EXODUS 28 :30 KJV | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 108757
This phrase is used repeatedly throughout Scripture. It is not referring to the physical sense of hearing, but rather refers to spiritual perception. God's Word is not understood apart from the Spirit. Without the Spirit we are unable to "hear," with the Spirit we are ABLE, but often if we are to "hear" we must also CHOOSE to listen. See 1 Cor 2. I hope this helps. Blessings, mommapbs |

Paraclete - no matter what user name you decide to post under, your false gospel is obvious and continues to be a source of disruption to the Forum. By pushing your "doctrinal" position, you are in violation of the Forum's guidelines. The Bible is the COMPLETE revelation of God. Joseph Smith's writings are NOT part of the inspired Holy Word of God. They have NO PLACE on this Forum. You have been asked not to participate here. Please be responsive to this request. I pray that you will come to a knowledge of the Truth as presented in God's Word before it is too late. mommapbs |

Greeting, Iny! Although I'd like to "ignore" this user, when I read "his" posts to others, I think that we have a responsibility to uphold the Truth; even when we are "fed up!" My prayer is that others will also be discerning and recognize that this user, no matter what name he signs in with, is masquerading! See 2 Cor 11! "But what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may cut off opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting." 2Cor 11:12 Blessings, mommapbs |
