81 | What did the disciples understand? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96719
PART 2 What were the problems facing the twelve? First of all they were obviously in the wrong town. These men were all Galileans; Galilee is the land of country people. But look at them now! Here they are in the great, sophisticated capital city of Jerusalem. They do not belong here. They had come here for no reason except to hold a prayer meeting. They only arrived eleven days ago! They had no thought of staying. Why be here at all? Why don't they go home ... now? They will stay! They will stay because eleven days ago the Lord told them to stay! And He had a very deliberate reason in selecting Jerusalem. But His command had put them in a mess. Here they are, in Jerusalem, with no money, no jobs, and no place to live. There is no Galilean Sea in Jerusalem for these unemployed fishermen to cast their nets into. Furthermore, this city, of all cities, is not friendly to them. Less than two months ago the local government here sentenced their Lord to death. To say the least, they are not liked. They have a second problem. Where will they sleep? Where will they eat? How will they make a living? Most of the 120 had probably been "camping out" in the upper room for the last eleven days. (It is even probable that "living with all things in common" was born right there in the upper room.) How could they begin a new work of God on this earth when they were flat broke and in such a ridiculous predicament? These were the problems of the twelve. They were serious problems all right, but nothing compared to the problems faced by the rest of the 120. Let's look at their problems! The 120 are also Galileans. They, too, had been following the Lord around for over three years. They, too, own nothing. (They had obeyed the Lord's injunction to drop all and follow Him!) Their homes and jobs, if in fact they still have any, are in Galilee. Certainly they have nothing in Jerusalem. Nor do they know anyone in Jerusalem. The 120 are unemployed, broke, and in a hostile city. So, together, the 120 and the twelve have some very serious problems. But the Apostles and the 120 have no problems at all compared to the 3,000. They have problems! You see, most of those 3,000 people should be packing their bags right now. They should be getting ready to head back home ... in caravans and on ships! Most of these 3,000 people do not live in Jerusalem or in Galilee. Nor is Judea their home. The vast majority of the 3,000 live hundreds and hundreds of miles away. They have mountains to climb, deserts to trudge, rivers to forge and seas to cross to get home. Certainly the 3,000 have nothing in Jerusalem! There is absolutely no reason for them to stay here. These 3,000 converts had come to Jerusalem just a few weeks ago as pilgrims-tourists-with the idea of staying for a very short time. For many of them the pilgrimage to Jerusalem was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Like most tourists they had brought just enough money to get them through the festival. As a result, today they have very little left in their pockets; they certainly have no jobs; they have no homes; most do not even have a place to sleep tonight; they have very little clothing; at best they have enough food to last for a few days. Simply put, the 3,000 are foreigners, they are a long way from home, they are broke, jobless, and homeless! Now that is a problem! So you begin to get an idea of the titanic mess the Apostles faced. But this is by no means the end of the list. Look at this! Here is a church with 3,120 believers and it has no -place to hold meetings! Where can you possibly get 3,000 people together in one place in a city of I 00,000 people all of whom live in one square mile? Now you can clearly see what the twelve Apostles were up against. Monday morning had all the makings of a disaster. Obviously there was only one solution to this whole problem: send everyone home and forget the whole thing. A problem this big just has no other solution. The Apostles could very easily have done this. They could have sent the 120 back to Galilee; they could have told the 3,000 to go on home as planned. That would have been reasonable. But Monday is just not going to be a day to be reasonable. Monday will be a day to be new!! Things never done before in history will be done Monday. From the book REVOLUTION by Gene Edwards Copyright by Gene Edwards MCMLXXIV ****The preceeding parts 1 aqnd 2 are BIBLICAL FICTION. However, it does make sense. It is not recorded in scripture and just and opinion and SHOULD NOT be taken as the absolute facts. Aixen7z4 I ask you, "why did the believers in Jerusalem share but the believers in the new church at Antioch not". At least there is no mention of the same kind of activity as at Jerusalem. Just something to think about. As my friend Ken would say "Interesting. . . Very interesting." Asis |

82 | What did the disciples understand? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96717
Aixen7z4 Consider this: Part 1 fromthe book REVOLUTION by Gene Edwards writer and Home church proponent. "It was about 8:45 a.m. Peter began slowly. "Men and brethren, the people you see here are not drunk, as some of you are saying. It is not even 9 a.m. yet." This concluded Peter's entire planned message. But, even as he made this simple explanation, he noticed that the whole crowd was standing, expectant and silent, wanting some further word. At that moment a thought flashed through his mind. He had told them what all this was not. Why not tell them what it was! Peter proceeded. He began explaining exactly what had taken place in the upper room by quoting Joel, an ancient prophet. Little by little, Peter unraveled the seeming mystery of the morning's events. Again, he would have stopped, but by this time he was aware that the multitude was hanging on every word. Suddenly something broke in Peter. The message of Christ burst from him in a torrent. For one long moment everyone stood spellbound. His words struck like fully bowed arrows. Suddenly someone from the vast crowd shouted out, half yelling, half crying, "What must we do to be saved?" The Holy Spirit, so new in His work upon the earth, had moved throughout the entire multitude. There was no one in that throng who had ever had an experience like this, the experience of being convicted of sin by the Holy Spirit. Peter quickly ended his talk. His finish was just as unplanned as his beginning. In one short thunderous sentence that was heard the length and breadth of the whole temple area,Peter roared the answer: "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ!" That was all. Instantly, the other eleven sensed that more should be done. They began moving among the people, exhorting, proclaiming, explaining, declaring, and answering questions in all languages. After all, in a crowd this vast Peter's words could not have been clearly understood by all. Each of the eleven took up a spot in the crowd and began answering questions and proclaiming Christ. As it turned out, all of the twelve shared in the experience of declaring Christ to the limitless throng. Until now, there had been only one type of follower of Christ: there had been 120 believers in the upper room. But as the eleven moved out into the crowd something new happened. Now twelve of the 120 were unique. Now there were 108 disciples and twelve Apostles. The first office in the church was now fully born and fully operating! As the twelve Apostles proclaimed the Gospel to the thousands of people in the street, the festival was forgotten. The people turned to hear the Apostle nearest them. They were deeply moved. It was evident that God had endowed twelve men with great power: hundreds were being saved through their corporate witness. By the time evening came, some three thousand people had marched together out of the city gates, down to the Kidron River and been baptized. (It is possible the site might have been in the city at one of the pools ... perhaps the Pool of Bethesda.) It was a wonderful, glorious day, a day of praise, and a day of great joy. There had never been a day quite like it in all of human history. The Holy Spirit had descended from heaven, something heavenly had come to earth. The church had been born in 120 believers. Apostleship had been established. The church had grown, in its first day, from 120 to about 3,120. The day of Pentecost is over. Tomorrow is the second day in church history. Tomorrow is the first day the church meets. In a few hours now, the temple grounds will be filling up with 3,000 new converts. Monday. The real beginning of the practice of the church. The twelve Apostles will go out and join that meeting. What will they say? What are their plans? Undoubtedly, the twelve men must have, though there is no record of it, gotten together to figure out the answer to that question. If they did get together for such a meeting, the results must have been quite an eye opener! The problems they face are so gigantic they almost defy understanding. Sunday had its glory; Monday has its problems! |

83 | How to exercize the gift of prophecy? | 1 Thess 5:21 | Asis | 96514
I guess it must be our definition of prophesy. Here is one definition. Prophecy. This is supernatural utterance in the native tongue (1 Cor. 14:3). It is a miracle of divine utterance, not conceived by human thought or reasoning (Acts 3:21; Acts 11:28; Acts 21:11; 2 Peter 1:21; 1 Cor. 14:23-32). It includes speaking to people to edification, and exhortation and comfort (1 Cor. 14:3). It is not always tell of future events. Am I correct in thinking that God does not communicate with you except by scripture. Scripture is used to verify what someone says God has told them is from God. It will never contradict scripture. Prophesy is not an addition to scripture. In fact not all the Old Testament prophets prophesies were made part of scripture. I hasve never read a prophesy that came out of the school of the prophets. This is a Forum where the understanding of the Bible is discussed not whether someone is right or wrong. It is a place of learning. These posts are meant as points of discussion nothing more. |

84 | How to exercize the gift of prophecy? | 1 Thess 5:21 | Asis | 96503
Darcy Why did God not go through the mind of the old testament prophets and yet go through the mind of those who prophesy today. Has God changed His motus operendi? Do you not think that if God speaks through a man or woman He does it directly. When I write this I have to think about it before I put into words. But when I have prophesied the words come without a prethought. I think that God operates the same today as He did back then. The difference today is that the Holy Spirit has taken up residence within us and He stays within us. Just my opinion. |

85 | Eph. 3:14 the prayer for a mature church | Eph 3:14 | Asis | 96455
Ephes. 3:14-19 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, [15] Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, [16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; [17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [18] May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; [19] And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. [KJV] Greetings Mae1509 Your question is some what hard to understand. Could you expand on what it is you are asking in regards to the above scriptures. Please be specific. I think then you will get many more responses to your post. Asis |

86 | As you say, "there is nowhere in scriptu | 1 Thess 5:21 | Asis | 96436
Radioman2 To my knowledge there is NO ONE "SEEKING for the Holy Spirit and EXPECTING TO RECEIVE TONGUES as the sign that He's come." Those who are seeking are looking to fill a void they have within themselves. Those who have found are trying to stay in Him 24/7, Some try to fill the void with drugs, some with drink, some with play, some with sex, and some with religion. They will find that the only way to fill the void that they are seeking to fill is through the Lordship of our Messiah Jesus Christ. The answer to any question is Not to be found in a thrill or a sign but in the Saviour. In the truth that is found plainly stated in God's word. Jesus wants relationship. It was enough in the past and it is enough now. Jesus, the living word . . . the same yesterday, today, and forever. If there are those who are seeking the Holy Spirit we need to lead them to Jesus. For it is only through Him that they will obtain what they seek. If they are already believers in Jesus and are seeking the Baptism of the (or in the) Holy Spirit, then we should lay hands on them and believe together that they receive that which is a gift from God. You see Radioman2 if we as teachers and pastors and evangilists and prophets and apostles are aware of any misunderstanding by the saints of God's word it is up to us to equip them for the ministry which God has for them. How do we go about that you might ask. We who are vessels of clay filled with the Spirit of God must allow ourselves to be used as intruments of righteousness. In plain words . . . God has given us the gift of the teacher. We each have our own unique personalities received from God that allows us to touch people in a special way. But if WE use those talents which God has given us then it is us who do the work and WE must convince others of our message. God wants US to be completely yielded to Him where He uses US to convey His message. In this way that message will Go out with power and will be received as truth. "My word will not return void" |

87 | who should speak in tounges? | 1 Cor 14:22 | Asis | 96418
rhy The tongues referred to in this verse is the tongue given with the expectation of an interpretation (1 Cor 12:10). In the church that I attend, an Assemblies of God church, when a message in tongues in given the whole church stops what it is doing and becomes silent. The non believer in the congregation is listening to the voice speaking in a language that cannot be understood and observing the actions of the congregation. The congregation is praying for an interpretation of the message in tongues and waiting expectantly for that message. The interpretation of the message is given in the language of the congregation. The non believer sees the unknown tongue and the interpretation as a sign from God. The believer sees the interpretation as a message from the lips of God. It is akin to prophecy. "This is supernatural utterance in the native tongue (1 Cor. 14:3).(Dakes Annotated Bible)" The whole experience is a sign to the non believer that GOD IS. To the believer the understandable message is one of edification. The gift of "tongues with interpretation" is a gift of the Holy Spirit. I THINK that a nonbeliever would not be willing to be used by the Holy Spirit in susch a way. The person whose mouth is speaking the words is not comprising the message. The Spirit of God is using the mouth, of a willing participant, to speak His Words. First in a language we don't understand and second in one we do. On the other hand, My God can do anything. This gift is for believers. I hope this answers your question. Asis |

88 | Where in Acts do you find individuals... | 1 Thess 5:21 | Asis | 96411
Radioman2 As you know there is nowhere in scripture that an individual SEEKS the Holy Spirit and there is also nowhere in scripture where an individual is expecting to speak in tongues as evidence that He has come. BUT if you want evidence of individuals seeking the BAPTISM of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of that BAPTISM being speaking with other tongues, that can be found in scripture. |

89 | Jake's Expository Notes | 2 Pet 1:2 | Asis | 95950
Jake I have wondered that since Peter was an uneducated man and the apostle to the Jews whether he wrote his letter in Greek or in Hebrew or Aramaic. If in the latter then we are reading a transation of a translation. So then is anything lost or tilted. Peace in Hebrew is Shalom, shaw-lome; from ther Hebrew 7999 (shalam); safe, i.e. (figurative) well, happy, friendly; also (abstract) welfare, i.e. health, prosperity, peace:- do, familiar, fare, favour, friend, great, (good) health, (perfect, such as be at) peace (-able, -ably), prosper (-ity, -ous), rest, safe (ty), saute, welfare, (all is, be) well, wholly. Just wondering |

EdB what is done is done. We will all stand in judgement of our actions and our words on that day. I do believe that you are sincere in your concern for those who may be led astray from the truth. We must, though, sometimes look at the tone of our writtings. Some view what I wrote as an attack on you, but rather it was an attack on the style of correction than upon you personally. I too must watch my tone. To answer some of the other posts written about me let me remind all of you that the Way was considered a "cult" by the Orthodox religion of Jesus' time. I belong to and adhere to the teachings of the Lord of lords and the King of kings. The Son of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who talks to me through His word and His Spirit who lives in me. I follow the WAY. Whose cult do you belong to? This is not a defence of the undefencable. It is about the way we treat the lost. I mean would we attack the beliefs of the Roman Catholics because they believe in the "deity" of Mary. No. The subject is not taken up and if a question is asked it is handled delicately, with love and compassion. After all there is no biblical foundation for praying to her is there? Do you meet the jehovah's witness at your door with a club and chase them from your property yelling "heritic, heretic"? I talk with them and try to show them where their error is and if they are unwilling to receive what is being given to them I tell then that God loves them good bye. Sometimes our zealousness gets over zealous. You and me. I thank God that we love the one who is important. We are asked to back up all our statements with scripture. Then we then we respond with opinion based on something we heard. There have been a great many posts about the jewishness of Jesus and the beliefs of Jews that are without any foundation but these statements are allowed to go unchallenged. We believe in a Jewish God who sent His Jewish Son to take our place on the Roman cross for our sins so we can be made into new creatures and become Jewish and heirs of the promises given to the father of the Jews, Abraham . We read a Jewish book written by Jewish men and we really no nothing about our heritage. Allowing posts to demean the ancestry of our faith. I am not called to defend the honor and the truth of the Jews but I know more about them because I follow the one true God. Why do I even mention this? Because WE have gotten away from what is important. Showing the world the truth, through out words and our actions. You can take what I have said and do with it what you like. EdB I feel that we have given each other permission, in past posts, to get involved in each others lives. If I have it wrong then tell me. It is unfortunate that sometimes things are written out in the open for others to misinterpret. One last time, my post was to open the eyes of your understanding not attack you personally. If all of you cannot take me as my Lord takes me, Asis, then turn me in and get me thrown off the Forum. Because I too am "DEFENDER OF THE FAITH AND THE TRUTH OF GOD" |

92 | True believer | Rom 10:9 | Asis | 95679
EdB Who are these scripture police who brand a doctine a cult? We better watch out or the Forum might find itself branded PHARASEES. By the way this is what the Title: The Treasury of David, Psalms 1-57 Author: Spurgeon, Charles H. VERSE 6 “But I am a worm, and no man.” This verse is a miracle in language. How could the Lord of glory be brought to such abasement as to be not only lower than the angels, but even lower than men. What a contrast between “I AM” and “I am a worm”! yet such a double nature was found in the person of our Lord Jesus when bleeding on the tree. He felt himself to be comparable to a helpless, powerless, down–trodden worm, passive while crushed, and unnoticed and despised by those who trod upon him. He selects the weakest of creatures, which is all flesh; and becomes, when trodden upon, writhing, quivering flesh, utterly devoid of any might except strength to suffer. This was a true likeness of himself when his body and soul had become a mass of misery—the very essence of agony—in the dying pangs of crucifixion. Man by nature is but a worm; but our Lord puts himself even beneath man, on account of the scorn which was heaped upon him and the weakness which he felt, and therefore he adds, “and no man.” The privileges and blessings which belonged to the fathers he could not obtain while deserted by God, and common acts of humanity were not allowed him, for he was rejected of men; he was outlawed from the society of earth, and shut out from the smile of heaven. How utterly did the Saviour empty himself of all glory, and become of no reputation for our sakes! “A reproach of men”—their common butt and jest; a byword and a proverb unto them: the sport of the rabble, and the scorn of the rulers. Oh the caustic power of reproach, to those who endure it with patience, yet smart under it most painfully! “And despised of the people.” The was against him. The very people who would once have crowned him then contemned him, and they who were benefited by his cures sneered at him in his woes. Sin is worthy of all reproach and contempt, and for this reason Jesus, the Sinbearer, was given up to be thus unworthily and shamefully entreated. Attention: Scripture Police Charles Hadden Spurgeon promoites the doctrine of a cult. Never use any commentaries by him. Cover your eyes and ears. Satire intended. Edb you will be judged by the same criterea you judge. Lighten up. Let the love of Jesus rule and reign in your life. It seems you would have the forum just be scripture with no explanation whatsoever because if God isn't writing the post it is all just opinions and beliefs. Sweet lips, sweet lips (just talking to myself). EdB what I have read so far has been cruel and you too Makarios. You two have smelled blood and show no mercy. LORD help us. |

93 | His Yoke? | Matt 11:29 | Asis | 95678
In the time of Jesus people carried their burdens by the use of a yoke. A piece of wood carved to fit the shoulders evenly and comfortabley. The burdens were suspended from each end of the yoke. See Jesus didn't say take the yoke of the oxen upon you He said take my yoke. What could He have been carrying upon His yoke? New American Standard Bible Isa. 9:6 through Isa. 9:7 (NASB) 6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. The government the rule the dominion of God is upon His shoulders. His yoke. When you let Jesus govern, rule, have dominion over your life then you will enter into His rest. Jesus wants us to submit to His authority and let Him rule our lives. Anything that we do of our own is not pleasing to God. We are to be His instruments of righteousness. By the way an instrument is something that is played by another not by itself. |

97 | What constitutes 'abuse' on the forum? | Acts 17:11 | Asis | 94808
EdB We seem to want to enter into this argument about what was going on when Jesus spent the three days in the earth. I wonder if God didn’t tell us so we could waste our time trying to figure out what the truth is. He (God) does allude to it in Ps 68:18; Is 61:1; Eph 4:8-10. See the current listings on the Forum. But that is not the point. The object of the posts seems to discredit any one associated with Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyers et al. Of course those who write the criticisms, like Hank, are well read in the teachings of the afore mentioned. So each one of the authors of the posts are experts in the doctrine of Word of Faith. I think the only ones who know what they are talking about are you and Hank. The rest only know about the Word of Faith teachers what they have heard about them. Are we then guilty of proclaiming the opinions of others instead of forming our own opinions from our own observations. The Greeks would be reviled. Ed I am interested in knowing what Orthodox Christianity is. Is it Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Judaism, Baptist Doctrine etc? Why don’t we try fighting error with the truth instead of personal attacks. Jesus said the truth will set us free. So our weapons should embrace the truth. Do the Catholics have the only truth? The Baptists? The Methodists? The United Pentecostals? The Jehovah’s Witness? Us? It is pretty arrogant for any denomination to say they have all the answers. We need to admit that we all have some error in our doctrine. Especially since God doesn’t talk to any of us, to instruct us in the revelation of the mysteries of His word. I think we need to encourage one another to look into the scriptures and let GOD show us the truth. If I am in error about a behavior what does scripture say you are to do about it. Go and confront. If I won’t repent then take another so that by two or three witnesses all things can be confirmed. If repentance still is not forthcoming then before the church (forum). Then we are to treat them as a gentile. Paul takes the one who is remaining in sin and casts them to satan so they may be saved in the Day of the Lord. Not beat them up with words. It is God’s job to change us. He is the one who renews our minds. Let rebut error with the truth. Justme has been trying to get a string going about the things we have in common in our doctrines to no avail. I guess people like strife and discord better than harmony. Have you ever heard the message by Max Lucado the he delivered at the Promise Keepers pastor conference in Atlanta a few years back. He asked all in attendance to shout out their place of origin. The result was a cacophony of voices. A rumbling of indiscernible words. Then he asked them to shout the name of the Lord we serve. JESUS was the resounding call of all who were there. A word that reverberated around the arena. That is the answer to our discord. Ed I want to change you so bad, but it is not my job. I can not change you anymore than I can change the color of the sky. However, I know someone who can. If the sky needs changing He can and will do it. He may use me to plant His seeds of change or water the seeds of change but He is the one who will harvest. If some one won’t listen to the truth let God handle it. Remember LOVE NEVER FAILS. 98 | What constitutes 'abuse' on the forum? | Acts 17:11 | Asis | 94657
EdB There are times when the arguments about scripture get out of hand on the forum. Some one makes a statement about what they have heard or read by a Word of Faith preacher and it becomes feeding time in the shark tank. It seems sometimes my screen is tinted red. Doctrine makes a difference. God is in control. He changes a person not the contributors to the forum. I pray for those who do not see the truth because of the veil of religion over the eyes of their heart. If graceful or any other person has a skewed conception of the meaning of scripture we need to pray for them and lay the truth in front of them. Not chew them up and spit them out on the ground. Do you think that Jesus was ranting and raving in heaven because someone called Him a "PITIFUL EMANCIPATED WORM". Brother, I know He has been called a lot worse than that. In fact back in the day I'm sure I was the one who said it. JESUS LOVED me then as He loves those who persecute Him now. It is too bad that you hold such unforgiveness to those who you ministered with in the past. I am not niave and realize that their are wolves out among the sheep. I have encountered some. Jesus teaches us to love our enemies. Forgive our brother as God has forgiven us. EdB, I find that as I read the notes and answers on the forum I sometimes do not see the love of Christ in their words. Scripture is the written will of God. It is alive and cleans us, cuts the division between our spirit and our soul. It is the way not the Law. Jesus can take care of Himself. He wants us to stop doing it for Him and let Him do it for us. That is what I was talking about to Graceful. Be concerned about your relationship with Jesus and stop getting snared by the devil in his traps. It will get you nothing by winning or losing an argument (and most of the strings are arguments not discussions) on the Forum. The tactics used to discredit anyone not holding the same doctinal view of a few on the Forum are disgusting. For instance I did not agree with any of the postings in the concerned string. but you start your note with, "Let's look at what your agree with." Let's look at what I said. "You see we can argue what happened during the three days Jesus spent in the earth, setting captives free (my paraphrase), conquering death, smashing the gates of Hades, or we can shout to the heavens that He is risen and has given all of us eternal life and salvation and a job." There is nowhere in my post that I agree with any statements calling my Lord a worm. But anyone reading your post would think I did. I wonder if there isn't a spirit of bitterness that has gained entry into some who post on the forum. It seems that the forum is being used to separate us instead of bring us together IN CHRIST. Ed I love you as a brother in Christ and I have no quarrel with you. All I ask is that you reflect on how much of the love of Christ comes out in your postings. I hope that I have n ot offended you in any way. If I have then look into yourself to see why. Then forgive me. Yours in Christ Jeff |
