81 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52742
Why the insults, I thought we were discussing a subject, (BAPTISM) not disrespecting one another! I was told these types of things should not be done on this forum. But it's OK I won't be mad at you for your insults. I forgive you! Is Baptism a bible subject or not? If not I won't talk about it anymore, but if it is I'll talk about it till Jesus come's. There are more than two verses about baptism in the bible anyway!

One more time for emphasis: "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also AFTER BELIEVING [yet before water baptism] in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" You say that I failed to make the distinctions, is it my failure or yours, What Peter is talking about here is a sign of the Holy Spirit by the house of Cornelius speaking with tongues. If you will go back to Acts 10:48, It will help you understand Peter's conclusion in Acts 11:15-18 "but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit". Is a sign to the Jews Acts 10:48 placed them in Christ. If you were back in the first century, what would your answer be to the men who asked "Bretheren What shall we do". Would you answer be the same as Peters answer? " When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life."' Water baptism was included here also! --Acts 11:15-18 |

84 | where did this teaching come from? | Acts 2:37 | Grace and Truth | 52724
"Brethren, what shall we do?" I would just like to discuss this question a little bit to understand why Peter by the Holy Spirit gave the people the answer that he gave! Is it the fact that those who ask the question knew they had to submit to something, in order to remove the guilt and sins they had committed? Or did they know that their salvation was already secured, and they could just go about their lives? They knew that they were guilty of killing the Just One, the Son of the living God, so they were looking for a way out of the mess they were in. So they ask the most important question that could ever have been asked, "Brethren, what shall we do?" I now wonder if the teaches of today had to give the answer to that question, would they give the same answer that Peter gave? Or would we get answers like the one's given on this forum! Someone said, that they were glad that they didn't have to jump through "hoops and loops" to come to Christ, how or what answer would you give then to these who asked the question "What shall we do?" Would your answer be the same as Peter's answer? Or would you take out the "hoops and loops?" I know from what I read about "hoops and loops" that baptism would be out of the question because God never included baptism in his salvation plan, and this is what you believe, am I right? Now my question is where did this teaching start That baptism is not and has never been a part of God's salvation plan? The only place in the bible that I found that was negative about baptism was in 1 Cor. 1:10-17 where the members of the corinthian church had a problem that caused division in that church about who the were baptized by! I what we learn here, is that it wasn't baptism it self, but who baptized who! Notice, vs.12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. vs.13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? vs.14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; vs.15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in my own name. vs.16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. vs 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. The above text does not teach against baptism, but against divisions, being baptized in the name of Jesus or by the authority of Jesus Christ is the true way, and as stated in Matt 28:19 Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son,and of the Holy Spirit: There are no other places in the bible that teach anything negative about baptism or being baptized. So where did this teaching come from? Who's the author of that doctrine?

86 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52670
1 Peter 3:21 is missing the word "water" in reference to baptism.. Look at vs.20 All the other for mentioned verses, if you follow closely in the book of Acts you will see weather its water or not. Acts 19 for Ephesus, Galatia Acts 16. And remember verses were added for ease of reading, we really need to make the connection by knowing when a point begans and when it ends 1Peter3:20-21. |

88 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52668
Work with Acts 8:13-24. vs.16(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) "In the name of the Lord Jesus" Is by the authority of the Lord Jesus. You say not for salvation, but yet its by the authority of the Lord Jesus, meaning Jesus commanded it to be done for the remission of sins. Is a person saved with his sins or must he have his sins remitted? Was the receiving the Holy Spirit for salvation in this text? |

89 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52660
My point about reading your bible is not to say that you don't read it, I was making a point about what the bible says about baptism and it's purpose. You mentioned "I believe that the Bible plainly teaches that you don't necessarily have to undergo water baptism in order to be saved". Where is that in the bible? You don't necessarily have to undergo water baptism in order to be saved! Did Jesus ever teach that? Did Peter ever teach that? I read my bible every day too, and I never seem nor heard anything like your statement "you don't necessarily have to undergo water baptism in order to be saved. Now I heard people say that about the bible, but the passages they are using, they read all around it. For example Acts 16 the Philipian jailer, most people stop at vs.31 and never read pass that, saying that's all one has to do. But if you keep reading the story you would find the "rest of the story" where they spake unto him and his household the word of the Lord, vs.32 and he and all his house was baptized the same hour of the night. vs.33 Now show me one post where someone told the whole story about the jailer! |

(1) Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary (2) The People's New Testament (3) Barnes' Notes on the NT If this was taught in the bible, you would have a point, but this is a commentary about what someone think's the bible is saying to him! One could not convince Paul of this argument! Read your bible, if baptism or anything else was not necessary, the bible would tell us, because God is not willing that any should perish! |

91 | Which gate did you enter? | Matt 7:13 | Grace and Truth | 52647
Which gate did you enter? Did you ever think of examining the way you say you came to Christ? Did it include hearing the gospel? Romans 10:17 Did it include believing the gospel with all your heart? John 20:30,31 Did it include repenting of all your past sins? Luke 13:3,5 Did it include confessing the name of Jesus Christ before men? Matt 10:32,33 Did it include being baptized for the remission of your sins? Acts 2:38 Mark 16:16, Acts 8:37,38 Or is it the same gate that many have gone through, saying that all you have to do is believe? |

92 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52644
Eph 4:5 There is one baptism. Before you say that this is Holy Spirit baptism, look at vs. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; So it's clearly speaking of water baptism. Many have said this is refering to the Holy Spirit, but it's not, seeing that Paul mentions the Holy Spirit prior to baptism. |

You left out John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,HE CANNOT enter into the kingdom of God. I didn't add water, Jesus did! "Who then should be baptized? THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN SAVED": The bible doesn't teach what you have here in quotes no where! |

96 | If time was an issue for the people of t | Acts 2:41 | Grace and Truth | 52510
If time was an issue for the people of today, it wasn't on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. For them to baptize three thousand people in one day shows us the importants of doing things exactly like the Lord commanded in the great commission, Matt 28:18-19; Mark 16:15-16, some people today make light of being baptized into Christ, but you would never have found that attitude in the first century believers, they heard Peter loud and clear when he answered their question, men and bretheren what shall we (do)? Peter said, Repent, and be baptized every one to you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. In vs. 41 They responded to the preaching of Peter's answer, all three thousand of them. Question, did anyone say hey wait a mintue here I thought we are saved by faith only? Why do I have to wait in line to be baptized? Can't I just put this off for some other time? Or did someone have to have somebody interpret what Peter is saying to us? The bible says they gladly received what Peter said, and were baptized for the remission of their sins! And notice this also, the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. What did the Lord do to baptized believers? Added them to the church! Who's adding you? |

97 | "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" | Acts 16:30 | Grace and Truth | 52509
"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" This the most important questions ever asked! Yet we hear an incomplete answer by many who attempted to answer this most valuable question. Many would have those who ask such a question believe that there is nothing to (do)! but believe, and that's not the complete answer given to the Jailer who ask the question. Please read all of the answer when ever someone ask (what must I do to be saved?) It's a matter of eternal life. Listen to the complete answer; Acts 16:30-34 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the WORD OF THE LORD, and to ALL that were IN THE HOUSE. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, HE AND ALL HIS, STRAIGHTWAY. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. Now we can see All of what it takes to be saved, only if the persons who teach would give the whole story about salvation. When Paul and Silas told the jailer to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the next logical question is, WHO IS THIS JESUS CHRIST YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, and then they spoke unto the jailer and his household the WORDS OF THE LORD, and after that, he took care of their wounds and they BAPTIZED HIM AND HIS HOUSEHOLD THE SAME HOUR OF THE NIGHT! And that's what the bible says in Acts 16:30-34 about the answer to the most important question ever to be ask. |

99 | The last twelve verses of Mark 16, (9-20 | Mark 16:9 | Grace and Truth | 52353
The last twelve verses of Mark 16, (9-20) were in the translations of the New Testament two hundred years before the Greek manuscripts Aleph and B (Vaticanus) were made. This shows that these verses were in the Greek manuscript/s used in those translations. The Old Syric translation was in use within the lifetime of many early Christians who knew and heard John the apostle personally. Verses 9-20 are in this version. It also appeared in the Old Italian version, a very honored and respected translation. It reaches back to the early days of the church; and it too contains the last twelve verses of Mark. Also, there are the Ethiopian, Egyptian, Sahidic and Coptic translations that appeared not long after the end of the first century; each having these verses. The evidence is overwhelming in favor of the verses. |
