82 | Compare Christ and Melchizedek | Hebrews | bowler | 206519
Junikkits I woould say that there are actually more similarities between them then differences! Hebrews chapter 7 speaks at length about how Mechizedek'a priesthood and Christs priesthood - Here are some interesting facts - They are both of the same priesthood. Christ's priesthood arose from Melchizedek's. Melchizedek had no anscestors' no genealogy, no beginning and no end and remains a priest perpetually like Jesus. Both were high priests. The both bear the name, "king of righteousness" and "king of Salem". Some say Melchezidek was Jesus come early in a theophany because no one could possibly be without beginning or end and be a perpetual priest except Jesus. Differences - Melchizedek mysteriously appeared from nowhere and dissappeared to nowhere, but Jesus was born and died and rose again. Melchizedek accepted tithes which Jesus did not do. You see only two differences and five similarities there, so they were more alike then not. blessings abound, bowler |

83 | Is this important to me today? | Hebrews | bowler | 207039
catfish 3 Doc makes some very excellent points there. I would like to add one. 1 Peter 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices accpetable to God through Jesus Christ. Where once there was an Aaronic priesthood and only some could be priests to God under the order of Aaron, now there is a new order of Jesus Christ as the high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. We are all, as believers part of this priesthood under Jesus Christ, a ministering priesthood as a spiritual house offering up sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 84 | hebrews 9:27 | Hebrews | bowler | 207775
son of god Genesis 5:24 Ehoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. The text says Enoch walked - the word can also mean behaved and passed away. The text says Enoch was not - the word can also mean not exist. The text says God took him - the word took can also mean carry away or fetch. The text could possibly mean that Enoch behaved with God and passed away because God carried him away, fetched him. But Hebrews is not unclear like that, Hebrews says this; Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. According to the Bible Enoch was no longer found because he did not taste death. That would mean that it appears Enoch was an exeption to Hebrews 9:27. 2 Kings 2:11, 12 As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. Elisha saw it and cried out, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" And he saw Elijah no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. The text says Elijah ascended into heaven, was taken away, and was seen no more. This is another example of an exception that it appears God made to Hebrews 9:27. But did He really make an exception? Maybe not. Luke 9:30, 31 And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Notice that Moses and Elijah appeared in a state of glory, they had been glorified to a certain degree. 1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. I do believe it is safe to say that when one goes to heaven there is a heavenly body that gets put on. 1 Corinthians 15:50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Somehow it is not possible for flesh and blood to be in heaven, and there are fleshly bodies and heavenly bodies. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but WE WIIL ALL be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. Somewhere in there we will all be changed at the last trump, all the dead flesh will put on the imperishable new heavenly body. There is no reason to think that Enoch and Elijah will be left out of that because somehow there is no way for their flesh bodies to be in heaven as flesh bodies, some change must have taken place we are not told about. Otherwise these other scriptures cannot apply to ALL, as in "we all will be changed". Elijah, Enoch, and Moses still have to be changed one more time, they need their immortal bodies to endure eternal life, that requires this - 1 Corinthians 15:35-38 You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own. Since this text is true that in order for there to be eternal life, there must first be the death of the flesh, that must apply to everyone. Jesus is the type for us, if He had to die, if His flesh had to die to go to eternal life, then so do all of us, no exceptions. On that basis alone it seems as if Enoch and Elijah had to have lost their flesh unto death in some sort of quick transition that we don't understand. The Brenton Bible says this - And Enoch was well-pleasing to God, and was not found, because God translated him. According to this translation God changed him. blessings abound, bowler |

85 | How to convince someone to go to church | Heb 10:25 | bowler | 207263
crazycatcm I only have a couple of questions - Is this person really saved? If they are saved, did they ever crack open their Bibles at home and study God's word on their own, or when they came to church where they just bench warmers? I would ask my friend nice versions of these two questions. They are key - if you are not saved, why would you bother to come? If you are saved, but you are not into God's word, there is a major problem with your concept of what it means to be a Christian and how you walk with Him. There is usually one big reason that the majority of people have as to why the don't go to church - they are not saved. The next big reason people don't go to church who are saved is they have no viable working relationship with Christ, it is dead in the water, it is not active faith. People who are saved generally hunger for God, they want to do everything possible to get next to Him and to worship Him. People go to church for all kinds of reasons, but the primary one should be to worship God with the saints. Every other consideration pales next to this one because we are the body of Christ and we should be together as one worshipping Him. If that is not important to one who claims they are a Christian, you have to wonder what they think being a Christian means they should "do" about being one. Some people are home bound, others make excuses about "what is wrong" with the church, others just don't seem to make time for God in any area of their lives. We are not fruit inspectors, but they may not be saved. Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one another day after day, a long as it is still called "Today". Just a worthless son. blessings abound, bowler |

86 | married | Heb 13:4 | bowler | 206717
Liefie I have been following this branch for a while and been trying to see exactly what you originaly meant by your question here. The thread got interesting. But it seems like what you are talking about is a verse that describes that you must be married and not live together? As in you must "remain married while you are not living together"? I think that perhaps that is what you were trying to ask about? 1 Corinthians 7:10, 11 But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife. This is the only verse I know of that fits how you phrased your question, "where in the Bible does it state that you must be married and not live together". I think some confussion came in there because of the last half of your question as, "and not live together" in light of being married. As everyone in the thread keeps discussing everyone who is married is supposed to live together, they are not suppossed to be apart. What these verses in 1 Corinthians 7:10, 11 is talking about is if the marriage goes south the wife should not leave, and the husband should not divorce his wife. But if for some undisclosed reason that Paul doesn't give us, the wife leaves then, "she must be married and not live together", or to put it another way, "she must remain "un"married (that is separate from the husband and not married to another man)". Then the verses say that she must remain in that "single but married, unmarried but married" state or go back to her husband. This is instructions for believers. There are some a reasons why she, or he, has to stay married but "single". 1) They are believers. 2) In verse 39 it says the wife is bound to her husband as long as her husband is alive, but she is free once he is dead. There are a lot of reasons why people split up, but that is because God's plans, marriage God style, gets messed up by sin. If there is anything the devil would like to be doing it is to mess up all of God's plans and marriage is one of God's plans. In Mathew 19 and Mark 10 Jesus talks about God's plans for marriage and how people mess it up. Jesus also talks about true grounds for divorce. And in 1 Corinthians 7 it talks about no longer being bound if the unbeliever leaves you. But I am not going to touch the ins and outs of that with a ten foot poll because people get very upset by it and not many can agree about whether or not a person who had grounds for divorce have the Biblical right to get remarried. blessings abound, bowler |

88 | should you be baptist again, if you fall | 1 Pet 3:21 | bowler | 206706
SATNJ 1 Peter 3:21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you - not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience. This verse means that baptism is "an appeal to God for a good conscience" - that is it is a symbol of having a good conscience. This is what you did the first time around when you got baptized, I hope, - you made a public confession to the church of the fact that you were already saved, that you had repented and taken Christ. It was only a symbol of salvation. If you backslid all you need to do is repent and go back to living in Christ. You don't ever need to be baptized again. That is assuming that you got baptized as an adult who knew that they had repented and taken Christ as their savior. If you were baptized as a child before you even realized you were a sinner who needed to repent you might want to consider being baptized again now that you know Christ as your savior as an adult capable of repenting and taking Christ. blessings abound, bowler |

89 | Where is Hell | Revelation | bowler | 206688
CharlieH I think it would be good to understand that heaven and hell are in realms outside our known unniverse. The language in the Bible about "hell being in bowels of the earth" and so on is figurative language to describe some place that we cannot comprehend where it really is. The important thing about it is not where it is, but that it does exist and is waiting for the unbelievers. blessings abound, bowler |

90 | What is the "Lord's Day" | Rev 1:10 | bowler | 206730
Jim Estes The actual term "the Lord's Day" is only found in Revelation 1:10, and it was used by the church fathers below and refers to Sunday. The following site contained the following excerpts as quotes, I would be careful about going to this site, I did not believe all that I read there - http: double front slash www.specialtyinterests.net single front slash lords down dash day down dash history.html number sign ioa 4. Didache cir. 125 BC - 50 to 90 AD "But every Lord's day, do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord... Matt. 5:23-24." 2b, or this translation, "On the Lord's day of the Lord come together, break bread and hold Eucharist." Loeb Classical Library - Apostolic Fathers, Vol. 1 pp. 330, 331. Note: The word "day" is a later interpolation by the translator, in the original the word may have been "supper." 5. Bishop Melito of Sardis cir. 170 to 185 AD wrote a treatise "On the Lord's Day" but the word day' is not in the Greek original which is, "o peri tes kuriakes logos ...", where the word "hmara" day is missing and like in Ignatius treaties on the Life of Christ' was more likely "kuriaken zoen", lord's life.' The epistle of Barnabas cir. 135 AD "Your present Sabbaths are not acceptable to me, but that is which I have made namely this when, giving rest to all things, I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. And when He had manifested Himself, He assembled unto heaven." Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. I, pp. 146, 147. 10. Justin Martyr 100? to 165 He states that the "day of the sun" is observed by Christians, because of the resurrection. Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. I, pp. 185, 186. The correct quote of Justin Martyr reads as follows: "And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together in one place, and the memoirs of the apostles, or the writings of the prophets, are read, as long as time permits," etc. Justin Martyr's First Apology, ch. 67. 11. Clement of Alexandria ca. 174 Clement, a teacher of Tatian and Origen the compiler of the 6 column Hexapla Bible, is the first man who unequivocally used the expression "Lord's day" for the first day of the week. 12. Origen 185-255 He, classes the Sabbath with the Preparation day, Passover and Pentecost, as Jewish festivals. Statements include: "It is one of the marks of a perfect Christian to keep the Lord's day." Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. IV, pp. 285, 366, 601; Vol. IX, pp. 388, 389, 469, 470. Comment: At his time apostasy had taken firm roots but biblically we know the Lord's day is Sabbath. "Others, with greater regard to good manners, it must be confessed, suppose that the sun is the God of the Christians, because it is a well-known fact that we pray toward the east, or because we make Sunday a day of festivity. What then? Do you do less than this? Do not many among you, with an affection of sometimes worshipping the heavenly bodies likewise, move your lips in the direction of the sunrise? It is you, at all events, who have even admitted the sun into the calendar of the week; and you have selected its day Sunday in preference to the preceding day, as the most suitable in the week for either an entire abstinence from the bath, or for its postponement until the evening, or for taking rest, and for banqueting. By resorting to these customs, you deliberately deviate from your own religious rites to those of strangers." 91 | What does 'key' mean? | Rev 9:1 | bowler | 208036
Thomas The angel in 9:1 is Satan, the angel in 20:1 an angel of God. The first reference seems to be to that Satan is given the power to go unloose demonic forces to inflict harm for six months but not to kill as demons acting under the authority of Satan - but what is so interesting about that is that Satan is "given" the keys by somebody from God to go do evil! The referrence in 20:1 is to an angel in God's camp who is given the power to go get Satan and to remove him where ever he was and locked him in the abyss for a millenium. Some believe the key is symbolic of power, some like myself believe there is an actual key because the Bible does not say it is a symbol or indicate that it was a symbol. But it could just mean power, I could be wrong. blessings abound, bowler |

92 | Is the world ending in 2012. | Rev 16:8 | bowler | 206212
Spike Revelation 16:8, 9 is about one of the bowl judgments and some who do not take a literal interpretation of the Bible do not believe it will happen as prophesied by John. A literal intrepretation of the Bible would mean that it is going to come true sometime in the future. I say future because Revelation, although it does use figurative language is a real prophecy and no prophecy that is in the Bible has failed yet. Revelation chapter 1 is about an angel announcing a Revelation to John from Jesus Christ. In Revelation 1:19 the angel tells John that this is about the past, the present, and the future. The past is Revelation chapter 1, the present is Revelation chapters 2, and 3, the future is Revelation chapters 4 through 22. The prophecy of the Great Tribulation starts at chapter 6 and lasts until chapter 19 when Christ returns. In the Great Tribulation are a series of real judgments that are described using some figurative langauge to describe real events - for instance there are locusts with faces that go out and sting people that may be demons, - the beasts have horns that represent people and, or nations, or kingdoms and there are figurative depictions of two different women one good, one bad that represent the church and the evil economic and spiritual empire of the beast. But the bowl judgments and the trumpet judgments are meant to be real things to happen in the future. The one thing about Revelation is that the bulk of it, the chapters 6 through 19 are suppossed to happen within 7 years split up into two parts and the judgments happen during this time. So where Revelation 16:8, 9 says that an angel pours out a bowl on the sun and that the sun scorches men with fierce heat and that they curse God, we can count on that it will happen because the Bible does not lie. Many have been saying for years that Jesus is going to come at a this date or that certain date. They got the first dates they came up with wrong, now they have choosen other dates. Jesus says - Mathew 24:36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, not the Son, but the Father alone. If Jesus did not know, and if the angels do not know, it is certain that these people cannot say with any certainty that te world will be ending in 2012. Another reason why this cannot be so is that all the things that have to happen in order, starting from chapter 6, would have had to have started in 2005, and they did not happen at all, so the end of the world cannot come by 2012 because we would have to be 4 years into a set of judgments that have not happened yet. blessings abound, bowler |
