88 | Scriptures that address self sufficiency | 2 Cor 3:5 | BradK | 230025
Hello Dennis, I know of nothing in scripture that addresses "self-sufficiency" positively! In other words, scripture speaks to the futility of us having any sufficiency in and of ourselves!. You might try checking a concordance and look up "Sufficient" or, "Sufficiency". Consider these scriptures: Prov 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding." Prov 3:6 "In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." 2 Cor 3:5 "Not that we are adequate (sufficient) in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy (sufficiency) is from God," (NASB) 2 Cor 9:8 "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;" (NASB) God is the ultimate source of our meaning, purpose, and sufficiency. I hope this is of some help, BradK |

92 | bible reference to the trinity | 2 Cor 13:14 | BradK | 229966
Hello jawebster, The exact term "trinity" is not found in scripture. However the doctrine is clearly taught that God is One (Deut. 6:4) yet exists in three separate Persons. Jesus is clearly referred to as God in John 20:28, where Thomas exclaims, "My Lord and my God!" (NASB) The Holy Spirit is referred to as God in Acts 5:3-4, "But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." Also, 2 Cor. 13:14 closes with "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all." Much, much more could be said, but my time is short. I hope this helps, BradK |

95 | trans word intensify amp how emp preva | Acts 19:20 | BradK | 229623
Hello popcorn, Good question- but one I don't think any of us can answer directly. In other words we can't speak for the decision the authors themselves employed. Keep in mind, the Amplified is a 'parphrase'- expanding upon the original language to attempt to provide a deeper sense of what the author is saying. It is not a translation. So, 'continued to increase' (ESV) is the Greek verb, 'auxano'. It describes what the 'word of the Lord' did. IMO, Intensified is simply a commentary upon this action. We might say, "it continued to increase- and intensified, prevailing mightily"! The Amplified reads, "Acts 19:20, "Thus the Word of the Lord [concerning the attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] grew and spread and intensified, prevailing mightily." By comparison: Youngs Literal Translation reads, "so powerfully was the word of God increasing and prevailing." Wuests Expanded Translation reads, "So mightily did the word of the Lord keep on growing and gaining strength." I hope this is of some help. BradK |

97 | will people be saved during tribulation? | Rev 7:14 | BradK | 229380
Hello BobW, To answer your question, yes there will be people saved during the tribulation. Actually, as I understand this book of prophecy, a great number will be saved- even more in the 7 years than during the church age! Rev 7:14 tells us, "I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." (NASB) If we take careful note, in Rev. 9, the purpose of the plagues is to bring man to the end of himself so that he will turn to God. For instance, back in Rev. 8:7 God is using His creation to bring man to an end of himself by reducing oxygen, moisture ans water. In 8:12 God is reducing the amount of sunlight. These are all (designed if you will) to bring man to repentance. Revelation is about a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. In Rev. 19:10 we see that, "...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." 98 | when did jesus ascend into heaven? | Acts 1:9 | BradK | 229257
Hello elizabeth, Acts 1:9-11 records the Ascension of Christ. Acts 1:9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. Acts 1:10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. Acts 1:11 They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |

99 | I don't understand why Jesus told the le | Matt 8:4 | BradK | 229187
Hello contented carol, Welcome to the Forum. That's a great question. Though the text doesn't directly say, I think we can be safe to venture that Jesus commanded his silence in order to keep the central focus off the miracle itself. We see similar cases where Jesus ask for silence concerning His ministy: 9:30, 12:16, 16:20. and 17:9. Brought into today's context with the "miracle" shows on TBN and other so-called healing ministries, we see why. The focus really becomes the seeking of the healing itself and of course fame and fortune for the healer. In this regard, I like the question posed by Satan of the Lord in Job 1:9, Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" (NASB). Is God alone- or Christ alone- enough for us? I hope this helps, BradK |

100 | what are the 10 times angels are mention | Heb 13:2 | BradK | 229111
Hello mlkiddey, Angels are mentioned dozens of time in the NT alone. I'm not sure where you get the number 10? As far as what they do in the NT, you're looking at the topic of Angelology. A helpful link would be: http://bible.org/topics/336/Angelology. At least one of their more important functions is mentioned in Heb 1:14, "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?" (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |
