83 | Question about meaning of turning cheek | Matt 5:39 | Chusarcik | 89641
I have a question regarding Matthew chapter 5 verse 38 to 42. My Bible study group was reviewing the part of verse 38 where Jesus says, "If someone strikes you on the cheek, turn to him the other also." One of our study members said a Jewish teacher told her that you would need to understand Jewish history to understand this sentance and that turning the other cheek was a form of insult at that time, in other words, if someone insulted you by slapping you, not appreciating what you're giving, you'd be basically righting them off by turning the other cheek. Does anyone know if this is true? It does seem the Christian is to draw the line when he's determined continuing to give would be unappreciated by the receiver such as in Matthew 7:6 where it says not to cast pearls before swine. Thanks, Chusarcik
84 | another question on this topic | Matthew | Chusarcik | 87395
Thanks for the answer and additional information. So it seems the scripture purposly lists the sets of 14 to represent the 3 steps of deliverence and I understand numbers in scripture are often listed in multiples of seven, but the fact that some generations are ignored and left out in order to come up with the sets of 14 needed would make scripture appear purposly contrived to come up with the needed outcome. At least I feel that is what a non believer would think if I were to try to explain this. I know that sometimes when prophecy is fulfilled there are gap periods of time that are not counted in the total because nothing significant happens during the silence period, such as the gap of time between the 69th and 70th week in the prophecy of Daniel. Could it be that those ancestors left out in Jesus' ancestory were not important because either nothing important to fulfillment of prophecy ocurred during their lifetimes or they were not believers? Any comments? Chusarcik |

85 | Why are some ancestors not listed? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 87358
My LifeChange gospel of Matthew study guide indicates that in Matthew chapter one, where Jesus genealogy is given, that not all of the ancestors between Abraham and Jesus are listed, but some are deliberatly left out. Why is this? And the ones listed are listed in 3sets of 14. What is the significance of that? Chusarcik Chusarcik |

87 | Who are"violent men of your own people? | Dan 11:14 | Chusarcik | 84070
Emmaus, Thanks for your answer. If this group of people was the Ptolemies and Seleucids why are they referred to as "violent men among YOUR OWN people. Daniel is being addressed here and it sounds as though it's talking about a sub group of Daniel's people from Jerusalem? And I still don't understand what vision this group of viloent people is trying to fulfill? My study Bible doesn't have any information on the topic Can you clarify? Chusarcik |

Daniel 11:14 says violent men of your people wiill try to gain independence from Egypt, but will fail. It says they will exalt themselves in fulfillment of the vision, but they will fail. Can anyone shed some light on who this group of violent ment was and what it meant when they said they will exalt themselves in fulfillment of the vision. What vision? Thanks, Chusarcik
89 | clarify why69 weeks stated as62and7weeks | Dan 9:25 | Chusarcik | 83408
I looked at this answer again and I'm still confused about why it would be broken down into 62 weeks and 7 weeks. If it took 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem, wouldn't it be broken down into 49 and 20 weeks? Can anyone clarify this or is it just one of those things Bible scholars don't agree on? thanks, Chusarcik |

90 | Why 62 and 7 for total of 69 weeks? | Dan 9:25 | Chusarcik | 83180
In Daniel Chapter 9, 69 weeks of the 70 week prophecy are broken down as 62 weeks and 7 weeks and one week to make up the 70 weeks. I understand the order of events to fulfill the prophecy and understand the last week is the 7 year tribulation but I am confused on why the first 69 weeks are broken down as 62 weeks and 7 weeks. Can anyone answer this? Chusarcik
91 | templerebuilt457or445 BC Messiah27or30AD | Daniel | Chusarcik | 82582
In trying to add the numbers up to understand the 70 week prophecy in Daniel, chapter 9 I am running into conflicting information. According to Teachinghearts.org, the final decree to rebuild Jerusalem was issued fall 457B.C. but according to my other source, John Macarthur's Daniel study guide, the decree was issued 445 B.C. Both sources agree the Persian Artaxerxes issued the decree. Then concerning the year Jesus rode in on the donkey declaring himself to be the Messiah, teachinghearts says the year was 27 A.D., while John Macarthur says it was 30 A.D. Can anyone shed some light on what is correct concerning the year each of these two events actually ocurred? Chusarcik |

97 | Why couldn't astrologers interperet it? | Dan 5:25 | Chusarcik | 80302
Thanks, that information is very interesting. I can't figure out why the locals would not have understood Aramic if they spoke it. I just read the form of Aramic it was written vertically rather than horizontally and this confused the locals. Maybe their current form of Aramic was written horizontally? Maybe information that detailed is just not available to us?
98 | Thanks just one more question, I promise | Dan 5:25 | Chusarcik | 80267
Searcher, Thanks for your detailed answer. I wonder if Daniel understood Aramic because of his background in Jerusalem or if God just revealed the information to him? What is your thought on this? I don't know what the local language of the Babylonians was during that time frame vs. the languag(es) Daniel may have known having originally come from a different area. What are your thoughts on this? Chusarcik |

99 | Can you answer second part of question? | Dan 5:25 | Chusarcik | 80242

100 | Two questions on Daniel Chapter 5 | Dan 5:25 | Chusarcik | 80226
I have two questions about Daniel Chapter 5. First, regarding the handwriting on the wall; what is the significance of the word MENE,MENE being said twice? Secondly, I am confused about whether Danile was able to interperet what was said because it was a language he had studied and the others had not, or if it was written in some divine language and God gave him the interperetation. Can anyone help with these two questions? Chusarcik |
