801 | The Human Race... A few questions | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 73335
Hello Purdue bid, and welcome to the forum. I would like to answer your questions but since you didn’t fill out your personal profile I would like to begin with a question. The last part of your statement reads in part, “it would be interesting to see what opinions and/or truths are evident based on this group of believers.” My question would be; do you consider yourself to be within this group of believers, why or why not? Any opinions, that a true believer in Jesus Christ should present, should be based on what the Bible teaches, do to the fact that we use Bible Scripture as our standard. 2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: There are probably numerous personal opinions that could be given and that is all they are, ones personal opinions. Our opinions really don’t mean much because none of us have the authority to do anything about them one way or the other. Now when God says something, regarding a subject, it would behoove one to take notice since he is sovereign, do you agree with this and do you accept the Bible as God inspired word? Please answer and I will continue, CDBJ |

802 | Trinity explanation made easy??????????? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 73317
Hi dat, this is part of a Bible study that I presented one day, there might be something in there that could help your understanding. For sake of clarification lets say that God, as we know him, has certain characteristics, not all are listed, but these ten are listed for simple clarity; again, this is not a complete list but it's sufficient for the brief explanation. God is sovereignty, righteousness, justice, love, eternal life, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutability, and veracity. God is one in unity with all of these characteristics just mentioned. Whoever has All of these attributes is in fact God. It so happens that there are three separate personalities in existence, that have All of these attributes and for sake of accommodation, they are referred to in the Bible as, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. They have existed Together forever in eternity past and they will continue on forever into eternity future; the three personalities had no beginning, they always were and always will be. Anyone exhibiting All of the listed traits mentioned is God, it so happens that there are only three personalities in existence that posses (All) of these attributes. God is ONE IN ESSENCE but THREE IN PERSONALITIES. God decided in eternity past that one of the personalities, the one we call the Son, would take on the form of a man and be born into the human race, his name as a human, would be Jesus. When God the second person took on the form of a man it is referred to as the hypostatic union. (i.e.) Jesus is a one-of-a-kind being, 100 percent God and 100 percent man; he was the God man. He is different from the other two members of the God Head in that he is a man. He is different from mankind in that he is God. Even though Jesus was walking around on this Earth as a man, he was at the same time holding the Universe together by the power of his might as God. God didn't see fit to reveal everything to the humanity of Jesus at the time of his first coming; an example of this would be the exact day and hour when Christ would return to the Earth to be glorified in his saints at his second coming. (PAROUSIA) I hope this will settle a lot of the confusion about what is called the Trinity, which is not a word that is actually used in the Bible, but it is a term that has been coined to cover a fact of doctrine. Every technical subject uses a technical language. Have a nice day, CDBJ |

803 | Simon wanting to buy Holy Spirit Acts 8 | Matt 13:20 | CDBJ | 73167
Just because someone jumps through some ministers psychological hoop by walking an aisle doesn’t mean that that they are saved. I ask a fellow one day if he were to die and stand before God at this very moment and God were to ask him why should I let you into my Kingdom, what would you say? His answer was because he went forward in a Billy Graham crusade. (WRONG ANSWER) I just answered a post on the same topic and I would like to suggest the same to you if I may. Do a lengthy study on the words believe and faith as found in the Bible and ask the Lord to show you the truth that is contained in the Koine Greek of those words. The English words for believe and faith is very limited as to what it conveys. Have a nice day, CDBJ |

805 | True Christians break commandments? | John 15:10 | CDBJ | 72829
Greetings Data, I have read your post and it sounds like you are under a lot of emotional strain with your decisions! For starters we aren’t saved because we keep the Ten Commandments, we are saved because Jesus died for us and we trust in what he did. God said that if we will believe in his Son that he will save us. The word believe in the New Testament comes to us from the word PISTEUO and is doesn’t mean to feel a certain way or give mental assent to, it meant to rest in the fact, rely upon, trust in and adhere to the person of Jesus Christ. The way we feel has nothing to do with our salvation, it’s what God says and our believing it. You don’t even have to understand it all the way just trust Him that it is fact. I don’t under stand how a TV works but that doesn’t stop me from using it. Every time I push certain things it works for me because someone smarter then me designed it that way. God has designed our salvation to be centered on the person of his Son and he wants us to put all of our eggs in one basket and leave it up to Jesus. God says that when we do this he will give us eternal life as a gift: believe it because God says it! Now down to the sin problem and how we are forgiven. I will probably catch a lot of flack from some of the clan but I am going to tell you what God’s word says. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Read this verse through several times and then point out to me where it says to ask for forgiveness. To begin with, if you want to be obedient and do exactly what God says why would you ask him to do something that he already says that he will do? The truth contained in this verse is in the word confess. You don’t ask for something, you lay claim to the fact of something. Confess in the original language of the Koine Greek was the word HOMOLOGEO. It was used as in a courtroom when a specific situation was stated. God wants us to own up to what we did and not hid it but tell him straight out! When we do this he says he will do something in return. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He is faithful, that means he will do it every time. Your forgiveness is dependent on the work of Christ and what he did for that sin, not on how you feel about it. God is only impressed with what his Son did for sin, not some pitiful way that we feel. There are so many thing in our lives that we don’t take into consideration but to God they are still wrong. He says that if we confess the known sin he will even take care of the unknown. 1 John 1:9 B and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. There are none of us that are perfect but we have a perfect God. The fact that you sinned in a point of weakness doesn’t mean that you should compound your sin by getting rid of your opposite number! God knew in eternity past that you were going to do what you did and he still saved you, if you are trusting in Jesus. The fact that you are having a guilt trip over what you did means that you are chain sinning. You need to trust in I John 1:9 and get on with your life. If you are still alive God has a plain for you but you can’t get over the thing that shocks you. It didn’t shock God when you married so tell him and praise him for his Son and lets get on with life. If you a child of his and he wants to take you to the woodshed for getting out of line he will but just remember it is Jesus that pays for sins even those of a guilt complex. 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. [11] And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. [13] These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 807 | measure day\night no sun or stars | Gen 1:3 | CDBJ | 72329
You might want to try this on for size? This is for you not for them! Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. [2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. If you have water with no light there is a absence of heat and thus you have what we call Ice. The word moved in the KJV is from the Hebrew word, RACHAPH, a primitive root; to brood; 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Tie this with Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire. Now the results are light and a lot of heat that will melt the icepack that is surrounding the earth as the Lord moved around and brooded over it. God was brooding over the earth just like a mother hen would do for her chicks to warm them up and He was the first light mentioned in Gen. 1:2. Now to maintain this equilibrium of heat to sustain the earth God uses the sun and the rest of our universe to hold it all in check. It all adds up to a fantastic plan and he is still in control weather your scientific friends want to believe it or not! You can never convince someone of anything unless they want to know the truth and even then it is the Lord who will reveal it to them. They don’t need proof to understand the Bible they need Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. 1:18-21 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. [20] Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21] For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Have a nice day, CDBJ |

808 | Do we go directly to Heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 72072
Greetings grlshockey, and welcome to the forum. I think the answer to your question is found in the understanding of the word atonement. The Hebrew word for atonement, with reference to one’s sins, was the word KAPHAR and it always meant a covering for one’s sins. The sacrifices that were performed in the Old Testament were nothing more then a temporary covering until God would send his perfect Messiah. The true believers looked forward to this sin offering which in essence, would be the lamb of God, that wouldn’t just cover sin, but take it away; it would be completely removed. Until that time believers could not enter into the presents of a Holy God with sin that was still there but covered, so they went to a special place called paradise. When Jesus came he was called the lamb of God by John. John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Notice that it said, taketh away the sin of the world. John the Baptist was thinking of all those whose sins were under the atonement of the blood of animals and were only covered; so when he saw Jesus he shouted out the great news. He said, behold, LOOK, he is here, the one God promised, His Perfect lamb that takes away sin for ever! When Jesus died he went to paradise and he set those that were captive there free because he was the Messiah of God that paid the perfect price that God demanded for their sins. They looked forward to the work that Messiah would do to remove all their sins just as we look back; but it is still the same means of salvation, faith in the finished work that Messiah would accomplish. They called him their Messiah and we call him Christ, one and the same. Paul explains this to the Corinthians who were experiencing the same confusion that you seem to be troubled with. 2 Cor. 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 2 Cor. 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The word absent in the two verses mentioned is the Koine Greek word EKDEMEO, and it means to vacate or leave. If we were to stop here it would still constitute a problem, but Paul goes on to say in 2 Cor. 5:8 B, and to be present with the Lord. The word for present, in the Koine Greek, is the word ENDEMEO. Endemeo meant to be at home in one’s own country, thus we could say, absent from the body one second and the next second we are at home face to face with the Lord. All I can say is praise the Lord, what a package. CDBJ |

809 | Who turned the tables? A prophet or God? | Matt 21:12 | CDBJ | 71973
The original in the Koine Greek actually has a pronoun in it. Matthew 21:12 KJV And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, Matthew 21:12 from Koine And entering Jesus into the temple and threw out all the ones selling and buying in the temple and the tables of the money-changers He overturned and the chairs of the ones selling the doves. He overturned --- verb: indicative, aorist, active, 3rd person, singular from the word KATESTREPSEN Verb -- showing action Indicative mood -- Is the mood of reality or certainty Aorist tense – Action occurring in a point of time. Active voice – The subject produces the action Third person singular – he, she or it As a casual observer I would say you are right. But Tim could spell it out better if he is on line. CDBJ |

810 | Sure of a solid foundation in Christ? | NT general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 71727
Whenever we have problems such as you say your friends are having we have to get back to basics. 1 Cor. 3:10-11 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. [11] For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Whenever we doubt, there is one thing that we can fall back on that has been proven even in courts of law through the process of evidence. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead has been proven and the Bible confirms this with a comforting verse. Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Jesus is the only human being in the history of the world that has been resurrected from the dead. There have been those that have been resuscitated but they later died again and their bodies decomposed; Jesus is still alive and will never die again and his body will never faced corruption. Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. Jesus body will always show the marks of having been on Earth and what he did for us. Zech. 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. Talk with your friends about the resurrection and what it means. CDBJ |

811 | How many Pastor's are preaching to he lo | NT general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 71522
Well I can’t say for sure but somebody must be doing something right because the Lord sure is blessing the work beyond measure and we have missionaries that we support all over the world. And as I stated before it is all being done but just communicating the Word without the Madison Avenue techniques and gimmicks which it what we were talking about in the first place. The way I see it the pastors are suppose to feed the flock and teach them how to reach the lost. Those within the congregation are the ones who are to go out with the message of the Gospel to the unsaved and then once they believe the message introduce them to the church where they can grow and be taught to do the same. 2 Tim. 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. People get it all mixed up thinking that the job of a pastor is to reach the lost; that is a very secondary position at best. It is our job as the recipients of the pastor’s good sound teaching, with his ability to dig into the deeper thing of God’s, to go out and reach people in our everyday life and community. Everybody wants to push this off on the pastors but his main responsibility is to study and teach; study and teach those that we bring to him. We are not all called to be pastors but we are called to be witnesses for Christ and if we do our job properly then the pastors can get back to doing their job and things will get back to it’s proper perspective. The only reason that pastors are doing it now is because the average believer is dropping or shirking his responsibility to reach the lost. I wonder if the figures were looked at, and not counting the pastors, how many average believers have lead someone to Christ since they have been a Christian? I am getting back on my soapbox, CDBJ |

812 | Which Church is the right one? | NT general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 71351
People will tell you just about anything and even some on this forum will try to exalt their particular denomination. The truth is what does the Bible teach; Jesus Christ is building the true church. 1 Cor. 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. Be very cautious of those that lift up a denomination instead of the person of Jesus Himself there can no good come of it. It’s not lifting up Jesus Christ plus anything, it’s him only! The true church of Christ isn’t an organization but an organism. Jesus when talking to a person who was trying to pin worship down to a place covered the point of worship. John 4:20-24 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. [21] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. [22] Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. [23] But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. [24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Acts 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. There is no particular denomination that is 100 percent right, they all have their flaws. Pick out one that teaches Bible doctrine and emphasis God’s written Word not a lot of ritual because all the ritual in the world wont sustain you in times of trouble! Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. When someone tells you something make sure that is stacks up with Scripture and that it isn’t someone’s impression of theology. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 2 Tim. 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. |

813 | prediction of devil's deception | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 71326
Your question as follows, Could any please explain and point me to the right verses regarding the prediction that the Devil would arrive on earth, pretend he was Jesus and take control of the earth. You have a three-part question and the verse that I think you might be referring to is in Rev. 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. As pertaining to the devil pretending that he is Jesus I can’t recall anything like that. However the Bible does talk of antichrist, if that is what you mean; but the term antichrist means in opposition to Christ. 2 Thes. 2:9-12 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: [12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. As for the Devil taking control of the Earth he has been permitted to have this temporary position for quite some time now. Ephes. 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 2 Cor. 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. I hope that helps! CDBJ |

814 | When will Jesus return this year? | Is 55:6 | CDBJ | 71253
There is a book out that is the most informative that I have ever read, with out exception on eschatology, that goes into explicit details. I have been interested in future thing ever since I was saved, back in 1965, and this is the first book that has answered all of my questions without leaving a bunch of loopholes that could be taken in several different way. I would advise all believers to read it no matter what their views are concerning future events. It backs up everything that it holds as truth and encourages any to find fault with it even to the point of listing an 800 phone number and a web site for comments an questions. It is called THE SIGN by Robert Van Kampen it is published by Crossway Books the ISBN is 1-58134-067-2 It is over 600 pages and is an excellent study guide. Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. |

Greetings, and welcome to the forum. You had the right pronunciation but the word in the Koine Greek is spelled KAIROS. It sounds like kahee-ros'; of uncertain affinity; an occasion, i.e. set or proper time - always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while; an example of it’s use is in Matthew. Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this TIME, no, nor ever shall be. It is used as, always, opportunity, seasons, time, and while. |

817 | What to do about temptation? | NT general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 70943
Dear Confusion, welcome to the forum, and I have found that the more that one know about God’s Word, the Bible, the more ammunition they will have to fight off the temptation. Oh yes and I deliberately spelled your name wrong. Seeing that most on this forum are followers of Christ and not Confucius, How did you arrive at a handle like that, to each his own, but I am curious? 1 Cor. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Ephes. 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Here is a tough one for you, have you come to the point yet in your spiritual experience where you can say for sure that you have eternal life with God? I always like to start off with something like this with new people that I meet. I guess it's like testing the waters to see if there is anything that I have missed out on. CDBJ |

818 | to understand why 2 names for Christ | Matt 1:23 | CDBJ | 70876
Hello pcp, and welcome to the forum. I looked up your user name in your personal profile and it says that your name is pcp. Is that your actual name or do you have several that you go by? Just kidding so that you might understand the answer to your question. The name Emmanuel as found in Matthew as well as other places is a reference to Jesus title he was actually God with us as it says. Here is a clincher for you they didn’t really call him Jesus they actually named him Yeshua, which we would pronounce Joshua which was later broken do through transliteration and comes out Jesus. We call him Jesus Christ, believing Jews call him Yeshua HaMashiah. I hopes this helps, CDBJ |

819 | Please expound on your previous comments | Dan 7:25 | CDBJ | 70580
I would like to call to your attention to a verse that will cover all the doctrine of Scripture and this should be taken into consideration in all studying of God’s Word. Psalm 119:160 (NASB) The sum of Thy word is truth, And every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting. Notice that it says, The sum of Thy word is truth, That means in order to have truth that all the verses that pertain to a certain subject have to agree before the truth of the subject is correct. If one verse seems to contradict your thesis then you better change your thesis to match up with Scripture or find what they call in fractions common denominator. |

820 | Agan,does it mean saints are Christians | Dan 7:25 | CDBJ | 70578
I am in 100 percent agreement with you on that one, when ever it mentions saints in the New Testament it is always referring to believers in Jesus Christ no mater if the are Jew or whatever. Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. |
