7601 | (still) God created evil? | Genesis | kalos | 1014
P.S. Also, thanks for clarifying for me the meaning of the original question, "Why did God put us on earth with satin?" I thought it was because neither silk nor velvet had yet been invented at that time.
7602 | (still) God created evil? | Genesis | kalos | 1012
Congratulations, Charis! Ditto, Bravo and Amen! Well put. I couldn't even come close to answering the question as well as you did. . . . From JVH0212 |

7603 | Is there no volition? | John 15:4 | kalos | 1009
Good morning, Charis! . . . Likewise because of my respect for you, I too will not allow a disagreement to come between us. I doubt that there is one person in my church who would agree with me on every point of doctrine. But, regardless, I sure love and appreciate those folks. . . . The verse you quoted, Rom 3:4, is one of my all-time favorites. Maybe it should be a motto for this forum. . . . Continued fellowship with each other is also my desire, as well as yours. Good to hear from you. Take care. . . . Sincerely, John (which IS the name on my birth certificate). |

7604 | where has this verse gone | 1 John 5:7 | kalos | 959
Why? Because "It is generally agreed that this verse has no manuscript authority and has been inserted" (note at 1 John 5:7, C.I. Scofield, New Scofield Reference Bible; New York: Oxford University Press, 1967. . . . If one doubts that "it is generally agreed," then he need only pick any number of modern translations of the Bible at random. In the footnotes, marginal notes, or translators' notes, one will find that indeed it is generally agreed that this verse has no manuscript authority and has been inserted. . . . (For much more detailed information on v. 7, see note at 1 John 5:7-8, John MacArthur, MacArthur Sudy Bible; Nashville: Word, 1997) |

7605 | Is there no volition? | John 15:4 | kalos | 954
P.S. Likewise this week has been more interesting and stimulating for me because of your recent note, "Dear fellow, please understand." Also, I was humbled by your note. I misjudged you and, after reading your note, I was sorry I had done so. |

7606 | Is there no volition? | John 15:4 | kalos | 953
Received and read your note, to which this is a reply. We can agree to disagree. Let us agree on the essential doctrines of the historic Christian faith. Other matters, while not unimportant, are secondary and we need not break fellowship because of a disagreement over them. I don't expect everyone to agree with me on everything. I would be astonished if anyone did. Isn't this the greatest website? I'm looking forward to many inspiring and stimulating discussions at this site with you and the other members. . . . Your brother in Christ, JVH0212 . . . (Not the name on my birth certificate. (smile)) |

7607 | Who are the 24 elders in this verse? | Rev 19:4 | kalos | 952
Yes, I understand what you mean by ppl who don't understand the difference between Bible text and footnotes. To such people I say: Remember, no explanatory footnotes in any study Bible are inspired; only the text of the Bible itself is inspired of God. . . . I'll bet you also know many who don't understand the difference between opinions and facts. For example, salvation by grace through faith plus nothing is not my personal opinion. It is a fact well documented in the Bible in plain English (Eph 2:8-9; Rom 3:28, etc.). |

7608 | What is the spiritual gift of faith? | 1 Cor 12:9 | kalos | 928
A most excellent answer! Charis, yours is a very well thought out and well put answer. I agree with you: The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to each one individually as He (the Holy Spirit) wills (see 1 Cor 12:11.) The gifts are not given primarily to glorify or build up the individual who is given the gift. Rather they are to be excercised in love (1 Cor 13 and 14) and are for the purpose of "equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Eph 4:12 NKJV). Finally, 1Co 14:40 (KJV) "Let all things be done decently and in order." |

7609 | Who or what should never be honored? | Proverbs | kalos | 919
Persons in the Bible who have no honor or who are not to be honored include, but are not limited to: the person of the mighty, King Uzziah, and anyone who is a fool. . . . Generally, I limit my answers to what the Bible SAYS or what it clearly teaches when all relevant passages are considered. However, other persons who are not to be honored would obviously include: any man or woman with the spirit of antichirst, evildoers, workers of abominable and detestable things, false prophets and teachers, anyone whom the Lord does not honor, etc. . . . NOTE: The Bible warns us, in Jude verses 8-10, not to revile nor prounounce "railing judgment" against "angelic majesties." Verse 9 (NASB): But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil...did not dare to pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" (This does not imply that we should honor the devil, but that we should NOT pronounce a railing judgment against him.) . . . I do not claim that this list is complete or that it includes EVERY person the Bible forbids us to honor. In the Bible there are other persons whom the Lord himself does not honor. This is merely the partial results of an online search in one concordance in one version of the Bible. "Partial results" means verses which did not seem to apply to your question were omitted from this list. . . . The following are some of the results of an online search (in a concordance in the OT, New King James Version) for verses containing the words "honor" and "not." . . . Le 19:15 'You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. . . . 2Ch 26:18 And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed! You shall have no honor from the Lord God." . . . Pr 26:1 As snow in summer and rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool. . . . |

7610 | Where there trees just after the deluge | Genesis | kalos | 916
Comparing your short question with the full question, I am confused. I'm not sure what your question is. Is it "WERE there trees after the deluge?" Or is it "HOWCOME there were trees after the deluge?"
7611 | Who should never be honored? | Bible general Archive 1 | kalos | 911
Since you've repeated your same basic question twice, I hope you won't mind if I repeat my answer once. Offhand, I can't think of anyone whom the Bible specifically says should not be shown honor. I'd like to make a suggestion. In your concordance, look up every occurence of the word "honor". Find out whom we are supposed to honor. Whoever is left is a potential candidate for people whom we are not to honor. . . . Also, look up all the references for "abomination", "detestable", etc. There you will find persons whom we are not to show honor. |

7613 | What is the spiritual gift of faith? | 1 Cor 12:9 | kalos | 903
1 Cor 12:9 . . . "faith (v.9). I.e., unusual reliance on God." (Ryrie Study Bible, 1976, 1978) Re: your question, "What is the spiritual gift of faith?" I sincerely believe you have answered your own question. In fact, the spiritual gift of faith (Rom 12:6; 1 Cor 12:9) is only given to some believers, while faith (Rom 12:3) is given to all believers when they are born again. I'm not being facetious -- you have answered your own question. If anyone can give further explanation in answer to RWC's question, then I, too, would appreciate learning more about this subject. |

7614 | What are these spiritual gifts? | 1 Cor 12:8 | kalos | 902
1 Cor 12:8 . . . "the word of wisdom (v.8). I.e., the communication of spiritual wisdom. . . . "the word of knowledge (v.8). I.e., the communication of practical truth." . . .(Ryrie Study Bible, 1976, 1978) |

7615 | Calling, contrary to scripture? | 1 Tim 2:12 | kalos | 901
"Women are not to assume the office of teacher in the church (see 1 Cor 14:34). Women may teach as long as they do not usurp the place of leadership and authority of men in the church. The injunction is based on the relationship of man and woman in the original creation (Gen. 2:18; 3:6)." (Ryrie Study Bible, 1976, 1978)
7616 | Why must the devil be released? | Rev 20:3 | kalos | 900
Revelation 20:7-10 (NIV) . . . "When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever." . . . Why will the devil be released? To "go out to deceive the nations", according to God's plan. . . . What will be the devil's ultimate fate? See verse 10. |

7617 | sins of father repaid by son? | Genesis | kalos | 875
". . . the sins of the father must be repaid by the son?" I'm not familiar with that one. Could you tell us the book, chapter and verse where the Bible says that?
7618 | Author of James, brother of Jesus? | James | kalos | 874
"Of the 4 men named James in the NT, only two are candidates for authorship of this epistle. No one has seriously considered James the Less, the son of Alphaeus . . . , or James the father of Judas, not Iscariot . . . Some have suggested James the son of Zebedee and brother of John (Matt. 4:21), but he was martyred too early to have written it (Acts 12:2). That leaves only James, the oldest half-brother of Christ (Mark 6:3) and brother of Jude (Matt 13:55)." (MacArthur Study Bible, p. 1924)
7619 | scriptures on how and why to prayto buil | Bible general Archive 1 | kalos | 873
To find Scriptures on the why and how to of prayer, why not look up the words "pray" and "prayer" in your concordance, esp. NT Scriptures? For example, the concordance in the New Scofield Reference Bible, under prayer, groups references for Prayer: occasions, objects, examples of; commanded; encouragements to; how to be offered; in the name of Christ; promises for; public; private; etc. If you don't have a concordance, you can find one online at bible.crosswalk.com
7620 | Do you believe once save, always saved. | Luke 23:43 | kalos | 863
The question was asked: Do you believe once saved, always saved: An answer was given: No. If that were true, why would we be warned against temptations? . . . So we jump from man's temptation to God's undoing all that He did at the salvation of a soul: One small step for human reasoning, one giant leap for Arminianism, which is defined as "of or relating to Arminius or his doctrines opposing the absolute predestination of strict Calvinism." |
