621 | Who is "Us"? | John 1:1 | stjohn | 184865
Hi harmsway; I believe, as do many other Christians, that this perhaps is a reference to what is known as the trinity, or, the three persons of God. Hence, "Let Us" and "Our image" Hear is Scripture that is in support of the belief in the Trinity. There are many in the Bible that support this. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. This is clear evidence that Jesus is God. John 1:32 John testified saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 1:33 "I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' These are obviously referring to The Holly Spirt. I hope this helps you God bless stj |

624 | was Lucifer a singer? Bible verse? | Is 14:12 | stjohn | 184824
Hi other... I agree with BradK. I don't think there is a verse that realy suports that theory. But, Is. 14:11 might be the one that they use to suport it, although it realy is a pretty wild idea, comeing from no real evedence. Is 14:11 'Your pomp and the music of your harps Have been brought down to Sheol; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.' God bless stj |

625 | no judging or you assault the law? | James 4:11 | stjohn | 184809
Hi daniel; Sorry, but, looking over your question again, I'm not sure I answered it adequately. So, may I add, that the law we would be assaulting is the one that is, or should be, in our hearts. The one that gives us the freedom to love one another even when we sin. So, I think James is really referring to the old strict binding law, and, the new, freeing law, the new freeing us from the judgment of the old. God bless stj |

626 | no judging or you assault the law? | James 4:11 | stjohn | 184808
Hi daniel; I think; This subject of judging, is one of the most misunderstood subjects in the Bible. As humans, it is, impossible, to live in this world and not judge. It comes very natural to us, to just look at something, or someone, and sum up the situation, so to speak. God really sort of made us that way, and we really cant help it. And, I'd like to say that your assessment of the reference in matthew is correct. that is, by what standard we judge, we will be judged. But, I think, that this judgment, is, as we judge one another. As Christians, we are no longer under judgment, our sins have been forgiven. So, when we Judge one another, we are to do so in a loving and understanding way, knowing that we are no better than they are. The true law, the one that should be written on our hearts, is really just to love one another, as God loves us. And love does not criticize or point fingers. So, when we Judge in an accusing criticizing finger pointing way, we are really putting ourselves and our brothers and sisters back under the law, and thats right where we don't want to be, we are no longer under the law. at least we shouldn't be. And, I'd like to point out that James is referring to the strict old testament law. You know the one, that only One, could ever really live up to, no one els even came close to Him. Our Lord Jesus. 629 | In Heaven will we know each other as now | 1 Cor 13:12 | stjohn | 184785
Hi boyceowenby; 1 Cor 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. I hope this helps you. I think we can safely assume that "we" can be used in place of "I" in this verse. as Paul is trying to instill this truth into the Corinthians. Although I don't ever really like substituting any words in the Bible. So... then "we" will know just as "we" also have been fully known. I don't know if that answers your question fully. Maybe someone can help with more? God bless stj |

630 | EXPLAIN MATTHEW 24 VS. 1-10 | Matt 24:1 | stjohn | 184781
Hi JCARTER; I would like to say, that there are toughs who would try to tech you something other then the truth of God's Word. Please listen to me, this is so very important for your spiritual growth and well being. Please pray, it is vital for you. And ask GOD, to reveal his truth to you. ask and He will, through The Holly Spirit He will make His Word real to your heart. There are toughs who will try to tell you that Jesus Has come already. And that the world will continue in the condition that it is in, and that GOD will just continue to harvest, if you will, His chosen out of the world. Please believe me. That is not the truth. Ask God to show you and he will. God has a much better plan then that. He will make a New Heaven, And a New Earth, just as the Word of God Promises. And Please, don't let Prophesy frighten you, God Promises to keep His Children from the wrath to come, AND HE WILL. And I pray that you are one of His. Here is some good advice and I say this with a humble heart. Please don't think that I'm condescending to you. If someone cant answer a question without making it complicated and hard to understand, take another look. FATHER GOD, open our hearts, and our eyes, and our minds, to the beautiful truth and wonder of your Holly Word. In Jesus name we pray, Any way we can help we will. I know that there are many here that can bless you with a better understanding of the Bible, but the main thing to do is Pray and ask God. God bless stj |

631 | EXPLAIN MATTHEW 24 VS. 1-10 | Matt 24:1 | stjohn | 184755
Hi JCARTER; Notice in v,3 that the disciples are really asking our Lord more then one question. "Tell us, when will these things happen, (and) what will be the sign of Your coming, (and) of the end of the age?" The destruction of the temple is (part) of His prophesy. When we read on, we can see that our Lord is answering all there questions, such as, what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" Not just, when will be the destruction of the temple. v.21 "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred "since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will." Now, granted, the destruction of the temple was a very terrible time, to say the least, but, sense then there have been many equally horrible events, such as in World war 2, the atom bomb for instance, Hitler's killing of the Jews, and lets not forget Noah's flood, and, we could mention many others, you can be sure. Notice our Lord says in v, 21 "tribulation, such as has not occurred (( SENCE THE BEGINNING )) of the world until now, (( NOR EVER WILL. )) AD 70 doesn't seam to fit the (whole) bill if you ask me. What do you think? It does answer one question, but not all. As we read the whole of chapter 24 we see that our Lord is giving us a preview, of what God is telling us in John's Revelation of Jesus Christ. I pray that helps you. May the Lord open our eye's and our hearts, to the truth of His Word. God bless stj |

632 | Balaam: dilemma or disobedience? | Num 22:18 | stjohn | 184724
Hi kudos; That is a very good question: balaam; is one of the most perplexing, and, wondered about characters in the Bible. He has been called the prophet for profit. And some would say. Was he a prophet of God? After all; God did speak to, and through him. didn't He? But, as you said, God had told him not to curse them. So, why did he ask again? Notice what Balaam says in this verse..... "Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the LORD my God." Now that sounds very pious and good doesn't it, But ok, who brought up, "silver" or "gold"? Balaam did thats who. It was greed... Greed was the reason he asked again, and thats why God was angry with him. In many places in the Bible you will find that God will allow something though He does not approve it, as if He were saying, you have my answer, but if you insist go ahead. Sort of like a parent would do with a spoiled child, so they can learn the hard way. It looks to me like Balaam, was seeking some kind of reword, but God, of corse had other plans. Didn't He? When we read the whole story, it looks like maybe there where two asses prophesying that day. May God open our eyes to the wonder of His truth. God's peace stj |

633 | Who are these 2 verses referring to? | 1 Pet 3:19 | stjohn | 184665
Hi Scott; 1 Peter 3:19, is referring to toughs who lived in the time of Noah that He preached salvation to, but of corse the people that lived in his day did not believe Noah or God, Noah being His profit was speaking for God. They did not believe God, Unbelief is a sin, so, they were disobedient. Therefor, when the flood came they perished, and it is there spirits that Peter is referring to. Jude; is referring to fallen angels. God bless stj |

637 | why is Love greater than faith | 1 Cor 13:3 | stjohn | 184343
Hi Aminat: Good question; and beautifully answered Jonp, anything "I" could add would be in its shadow. So, if I may, I'd like to just reiterate what I think Paul is saying about faith in the list of gifts in which he is speaking here in 1 cor. He says that "faith" amoung and including that list, will fade away, but "love" will remain. I think what he is saying here, is that when we see Jesus face to face what purpos will there be for faith. part of what fiath is, is the blievief in that which we cannot see. So, I think he is saying when we see our Lord in heaven we wont need faith. Will we? And so, "Love" will remain forever, the flower of our faith. God's peace stj |

638 | Same supper as John 12? | Luke 10:38 | stjohn | 184341
Hi Mom; Good question, and good point also that they "attempted" to rob mary; as our Lord put it in v 41-42 But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Note where her focus is, not when or what or where but "who". Don't know if it is the same supper by the way. God's peace stj |

639 | What about physical attraction? | 1 John 2:16 | stjohn | 184330
My dear friend; I indeed have much sympathy for you my heart goes out to you my friend; But consider this please; I know a man who has a wife that has no desire and if she did is physically unable to fulfill his needs at all, yet he is faithful to her, and to God, and has lived thus for 15 years. I know that this most likely is of little comfort, but my friend. if your wife is willing and able; I implore you to enjoy the wonderful comfort that God has given to the two of you. She is a gift from God. Please remember to keep eternity in mind always: This life, in this fading garment, is but a flash my friend. I know; if you remain faithful to her you will never regret it. If your eye wonders: Take it to the cross before it deceives you! God's peace stj |

640 | Rapid conquest??? | Joshua | stjohn | 184157
Hi Sarah Weaver: The book of Joshua tells some of this story. It starts off looking like Joshua and the boys are really taking care of business. They defeat Jerico and Ai But soon after they sort of trip on a brick. And, in the 9th chapter we have the Gibeonite deception. The Gibeonites fooled Joshua and his men into thinking that they were Just visiting from a far country. So, old Josh agreed to a treaty with them and didn't destroy them as God commanded. This would really come back to bite them to. But lets move on to the 12th chapter where we have a list of all the kings of the kingdoms that Joshua defeated, 31 in all I think. Now that looks pretty good but then in the 13th chapter we have God showing old Josh, and he is old now by the way, that there is a lot of land still to be conquered. In the end Israel never really occupied more then a small fraction of the land that God actually promised them. 200 or so years down the road we have GIdeon in the book of Judges fighting the Midianites. Then in another 200 years or so we have King David fighting a whole host of enemies. Israel even today has a tenuous hold on the land they certainly didn't do a thorough job on that one at all. I hope that helps. God's peace stj |
