62 | Who is the man who buys the treasure? | Matt 13:44 | stjohn | 225921
00123, if we read v37-38 Jesus gives us some very important clues for interpreting the parables. for instance the man sowing is the Lord, and the field is the world. Now first off, we don't go seeking God, He seeks us. So, it stands that if the clues He gives us in these verses, apply to others as well, then the man who finds the treasure is the Lord, the field is the world, and the treasure believe it or not is His elect (us). Remember, God gave His all for us, we didn't give anything or pay anything, He did. So as much as I admire my colleagues, I will have to respectfully disagree and say I agree with you.-John
63 | psalms... judgement chapter 1 verse 5 | Rev 20:15 | stjohn | 225669
Excuse me Ariel... I'm sorry But, the word just before destruction is everlasting. Now I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I think 'everlasting' means everlasting. So can you please give me some reasonable explanation, or even better, some other scripture that would give support for your conclusion that there is an end to it? Otherwise, I'm afraid I'd have to strongly differ, since to my knowledge, Scripture is pretty clear that hell, or the lake of fire, or destruction, or whatever else orthodoxy calls it, it is indeed everlasting, eternal punishment. -John p.s. I did note your question marks, so I'm assuming that you expected to be challenged. |

66 | Faith and Joy | Heb 12:2 | stjohn | 225323
"The heart overflows with gladness, and leaps and dances for the joy it has found in God. In this experience the Holy Spirit is active, and has taught us in the flash of a moment the deep secret of joy. You will have as much joy and laughter in life as you have faith in God." — Martin Luther |

Dear Brother Steve, it's so very good to see you here! We miss you dearly Brother! I know this isn't a chat room, but for one who has contributed so much to this forum I doubt if anyone would mind my extending the warmest greeting, and also ask: how you are doing my Brother? John |

Hi Sandy, Welcome to the forum! Sandy this really isn't something that the Bible gives an explanation to or for a young child, or mother in your situation an easy answer to ether. It is what it is and there is no way out. What the Bible has to say about divorce is quite clear that God hates it. And really Sandy, this is a Bible study and we are not very well equipped in this media to be of much help to you, nor is this kind of subject the intention of our gracious host. The TOU (terms of use) that we all agreed to are very explicit that this site is solely for use as a Bible study. You know though, since she already knows half of the truth, you might just consider biting the bullet and telling her the whole truth? Though it may be tough on the both of you, the truth is always the best answer. Not of course that I mean that you would lie to her by any means, only that everything that is relevant be (gently of course) revealed to her. Anyway my dear, you are in my prayers as is your daughter. God Bless John |

Cheri, would you mind very much giving an old man with a limited ability to communicate a break and speak in English? What is, "r snf r" and "TY!" Many of us are not as savvy as some others, so please for the respect of the fact that some who visit here have a limited ability and some do not speak English as a first language, please keep your communiqué as clear as posable. Thanks! -John
72 | What is "entering into God's rest?" | NT general | stjohn | 224978
New Heaven, New Earth, New Jerusalem. I see nothing that would indicate that we will be confined to any one place. Someone said it cant be 'both' Heaven and Earth. Why not? Why wouldn't we have access to both the New Heaven and the New Earth? And why would The New Jerusalem have unlocked openings if we should be confined to it alone? Creation is immense beyond our imagination and, forever is way to long to stay in one place! I should think after a few kabillion years, I for one, should like to go see what God hath wrought! :-) 1 Cor 2:9. Two cents worth? I'm not sure, but it's just something I've been ruminating...-John

74 | Justification By Faith Alone | Rom 4:5 | stjohn | 224767
Thank you, Brother Brad, for sharing that. There are few men indeed that have come so close to that pinnacle of godliness as Edwards! When I read him and those like him; it makes me feel like Im slacking, but, alas, we are a far reach from men such as these, who have gotten it so right and given so much of themselves to promulgate sound doctrine for so many to be edified through the millennia. God has been so gracious to us by giving them to us. -John

Doc, thanks for that link; Mark Dever is one of my favorite lecturer's. I've listened to literally hundreds of hours of his teaching and I think he's one of the best one's out there. But because of my very slow dial-up connection I cant very practically watch video, it just takes up far too much time to download. Can you please find out if it's available in an audio format? 76 | Arguing Among Apostles?? | Gal 2:11 | stjohn | 224737
That particular story told by Jesus as far as I know is not a parable. It just doesn't fit the criterion for a parable as it is told more as a contemporary story about perhaps real people that the crowed would recognize. Although this may be only a theory it is well excepted by many respected scholars. Try again?
77 | Arguing Among Apostles?? | Gal 2:11 | stjohn | 224731
Inquisitor, would you be so kind as to enlighten us on what the rule is for interpreting the parables that Jesus apparently left us to figure out on our own? Is it posable for us to determine this from the sacred text we have been given? -John
78 | Arguing Among Apostles?? | Gal 2:11 | stjohn | 224702
Dear Inquisitor, From time to time while reading along at this forum, I'm not only reminded that the guidelines "TOU" of this forum are quite clear, and that our posts should be as free from speculation as is posable, something a dear departed brother once said says it so well and indeed says it better then I can; so, knowing that he doesn't mind, because I asked him if I could quote this, here it is for your and anyone else who may be reading along edification. John “I lay no claim whatever to any expertise on matters involving High Theology or anything of the kind, so I'm fairly well limited when it comes to trying to connect the dots. And that is good! It forces me to attempt to speak only where the Bible speaks and to keep my mouth shut where the Bible is silent. I have enough trouble learning and digesting what the Bible clearly reveals, and so it leaves me no time to speculate and ruminate on the things which our loving and all-wise Father chose not to elaborate. God's eternal and unchanging word will be around long after I'm gone. Few indeed are they who care about my opinions now and fewer still will remember them after I've gone. So my candid view about questions such as call for speculations is this: If God did not choose to reveal details, is it our business to worry very much about them? I really don't believe that God expects us to fill in the blanks ourselves nor needs man to take over where He left off, do you? Just how important is it to know about such things? The narrative has endured and imparted the message it was intended to impart for centuries as it is, without being gussied up with all these minute frills and details. Let's be content to learn from it all that it clearly reveals without tarnishing the sacred record by adding our worthless speculation and groundless guesses.” –Hank Hallmark |

Dear Pastor Beja, thanks for the correction and your desire to get it right. Not being a Greek expert and having gotten this info from pastor Tim, (our resident Greek expert) I wouldn't know which of the two of you is correct. But since the final outcome is that the text and grammar shows Christ's Divinity, then it's all good to me!:-) John |
