Ephesians 2:11-16 11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called " Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands – 12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. #1 The Law of commandments was a wall or partition (hostility/enmity) between Jews and non-Jews (Gentiles) TRUE! #2 When Jesus gave his flesh (body) and shed His blood on the cross, He abolished the law of commandments that formerly had been a barrier between Jews and Gentiles. TRUE! #3 All men (Jews and non-Jews) can now have peace with each other and with God through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, not through the Ten Commandments. True! Romans 7:1-4 1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I am speaking to those who know the law ), that the law has jurisdiction over a person as long as he lives ? 2 For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living ; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband. 3 So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress ; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. #1 Would it please God for a woman to have two husbands at the same time? No! #2 Would it please God for a Christian to try to live by the Old Testament Law and the New Testament at the same time? No! Romans 7:7 7 What shall we say then ? Is the Law sin ? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law ; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET." #1 The Law said, “You shall not covet” TRUE! #2 “You shall not covet.” Was one of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:17) TRUE! #3 The Law, therefore , included the Ten Commandments. TRUE! Romans 7:6 6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter. #1 Jews were released (delivered) from the Law (Ten Commandments). TRUE! #2 Christians were never bound by the Law (Ten Commandments). TRUE! #3 Should you try to obey the Law (including the Ten Commandments). Which God has abolished? NO! #4 If I sincerely believe in God and try to keep the Ten Commandments), I will probably go to heaven when I die. FALSE! #5 The Old Testament Law ended when Jesus died on the cross. TRUE! #6 I am not obligated to obey the Ten Commandments which have been abolished. TRUE! How do you feel about the Ten Commandments being abolished? |

John 1:17 17 For the Law was given through Moses ; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. #1 Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ #2 The law came through Moses Exodus 34:27-28 27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." 28 So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights ; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. #1 To whom was the Lord speaking in these verses? Moses. #2 God made this covenant (Ten Commandments) with Moses and the nation of Israel. #3 Do these verses say that God made this covenant (Ten Commandments) with Christians? NO! Galatians 3:16-19 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ. 17 What I am saying is this : the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18 For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise ; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise. 19 Why the Law then ? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. #1 The Law was given until the ___seed_____ should come. #2 The seed referred to __Jesus____ . #3 God intended for the Law He gave to Moses and the Jews to last only until the time of Christ. TRUE! Luke 16:17 17 "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail. Matthew 5:17-18 17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets ; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. #1 Jesus came to fulfill the law. TRUE! #2 Jesus said the Law would not pass away until all was fulfilled (accomplished). TRUE! #3 It would have been easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for the Law to pass away before its time. TRUE! #4 Did Jesus say the Law would never pass away? NO! #5 Did Jesus say the Law would pass away when heaven and earth passed away? NO! #6 Jesus said the Law would pass away when all was accomplished (fulfilled). Not before. TRUE! John 19:28-30 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, "I am thirsty." 29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished !" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. #1 All was accomplished (fulfilled) when Jesus died on the cross. TRUE! #2 Therefore, the Law passed away when Jesus died on the cross. TRUE! |
