Dear jhjr40504, Are you asking homework questions? Please read the TOU before posting as the forum is not designed to answer homework questions. However, concerning your questions, please read Matthew chapter 5 for Q1. I don't know what do you mean by serenity prayer, but I would recommend you read Psalm where David has written a lot of prayers worth our learning. Shalom Azure |

70 | Free in Christ | John 8:31 | azurelaw | 240337
Dear sonofmom, As I read your posts, I pray that God will guide you to a church where you may grow and serve there for His glory. I believe Doc will give you his feedback concerning the affirmation of faith in your church. However, I would like to share a bit of my thought here with you. My church uses the Apostle Creed to confess our faith and we recite it on every Sunday service. The Creed talks mainly about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The central focus is on Christians' core belief instead of believers duty as the affirmation you have laid out. There is no SPECIFIC EMPHASIS on freedom in Christ either. All in all, the Apostle Creed's confession of faith is God-centred. While I agree your church's affirmation of faith is important for new members to guard their behaviour, however, I am afraid too much emphasis on them could side-track our central belief. I always wonder why churches like to develop their own affirmations of faith instead of using the jewels or refined gold that have been passed onto us by the saints of the old. Shalom Azure |

71 | 3 generations influenced by 1 verse | Phil 4:19 | azurelaw | 240263
Dear Jalek, Thank you for sharing. Your testimony is a blessing to many readers of the forum, I believe. I also appreciate very much that while being enlightened and touched by a verse, you also do not neglect the context, theology of the passage as well. May the Lord keep you and bless you that your faith grows in His hand. Shalom Azure |

72 | We are not lonely, but He was...for us! | Mark 14:34 | azurelaw | 240233
"Could ye not watch with me one brief hour? Could ye not pity my sorest need? Ah! If ye sleep while the tempests lower, surely, my friends, I am lone indeed."(The Agony from the Cruxificion by John Stainer) What a lonely Jesus, sorrow Jesus! Yet, He is the Joy of men's desiring.... |

73 | belief in hell? | Rev 20:15 | azurelaw | 240165
Dear Maus, Though you mentioned that you have read the TOU, I wonder you might have missed the below statement: Postings must be consistent with Biblical Christian doctrine (Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, Chalcedonian Creed, and Canons of the Council of Orange) Please consider that your disbelief in the Trinity contradicts to what the above Creeds affirm. Furthermore, on your other post (240071) you advised the poster to view the subject of HELL with "tongue in cheek". I don't understand how a Christian could treat a subject, which Jesus talked more than any other persons in the Bible, with a light heart. Though we should not overly exaggerated Hell, yet, we cannot water-down or ignore the teaching of it for Jesus has repeatedly warned the audience about it. Shalom Azure |

74 | Explain Matthew 6:6 | Matt 6:6 | azurelaw | 240046
Dear Claudia, Welcome to the forum. Please read the chapter in context. Jesus was teaching His followers not to imitate those hypocrites (especially the Pharisees) who concern only on the outward behaviour of showing self-righteousness for gaining praise and admiration of others. No matter your deeds are for charity or spirituality, God values the heart not the outward appearances. You will see that Jesus sometimes uses rhetoric expression to emphasize the message of His teaching. This is one of those many examples. You may also find more in chapter 5. Shalom Azure |

78 | sin for men to lay with other men New Te | Rom 1:26 | azurelaw | 238990
Dear cornsilk, Please read Romans chapter 1 and Jude 1:7. Though there is no specific wordings of men lay with men or nowadays we call homosexuality, the concept is clear. You may also refer to OT Leviticus 18:22. We have to also bear in mind that NT did not exist in the time of Paul or the writer of Jude, what they have in mind should be the teachings in the OT. Shalom Azure |
