61 | Where do angels sing in the Bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Rolff | 208607
Markarios and Kalos, I was sent to your bios on Study Bible Forum to check out your links and happen to find this question. Check out JOB 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? One of the possible meanings of this verse is angels singing and shouting over one that comes into the Kingdom. |

63 | Who is the strong man? | Mark 3:27 | Rolff | 208540
This is one of Jesus' parables. He is trying to make the point that one does not go into the house of a strong man, there is no proper name for this person. It is a generic strong person. The context in Mark 3:23-29 the strong man's house is the Devil's kingdom, possibly a possessed man. The strong man would be the Devil or his minions. No one can invade that house except one who is stronger, Jesus Christ/God. |

64 | Consititues Faith as Opposed to David? | 1 Sam 27:1 | Rolff | 208214
Bowler, I am exhausted. It has been a long weekend of working for the Kingdom. Let me pose a question. In Acts 4:19 Peter and John disagree with the rulers and disobey the rulers direct command. Peter was let out of jail in Acts 12, when it was clear he was to be beheaed the next morning. I'm sure if I wasn't so tired I could think of many other examples of people that followed God's law over man's law. Men will die, God's law will last forever. There are times we need to lose our heads for the Kingdom. There are times a wife should say, this far and no farther to her husband, when he expects her to be a swinger or other true perversion. I have wondered about Vashti for years. This was a modest woman who didn't want to do a strip tease in front of a bunch of drunk men. She paid a heavy price for disobeing her husband the King. Not sure I answered you question, but I hope I brought more ideas to your plate as you ruminate on this question. |

65 | is it ok to lie in certain cases | John 8:44 | Rolff | 207898
PRO 19:9 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who tells lies will perish. MIC 6:12 "For the rich men of the city are full of violence, Her residents speak lies, And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. TIT 1:2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, First, I believe you are a college student in Dallas, please capitalize the Personal pronoun “I” Truth is truth and a lie is a lie. The verses in the Bible that talk about lying, do so with an negative spirit. There are no half-truths. Let’s look at the two examples you mention. Abram married his half-sister Sarai. In time Eloheim changed their names to Abraham and Sarah. She was his sister, but more importantly, she was his wife. Over and over between Genesis 12 and 21, God describes Sarai or Sarah as Abram/Abraham’s wife. God did not allow the sister side of the half-truth to remain, but punished Pharaoh with plagues until Pharaoh gave Sarah back to Abraham. GEN 12:11-13 And it came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman; and it will come about when the Egyptians see you, that they will say,' This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. "Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you." Abraham reasoned in his mind and then spoke out loud to Sarah, “say you are my sister so I can live.” By the way, this woman was a senior citizen Pharaoh and Abraham were discussing. Sarah must have been Miss Ur of the Chaldeans several years running. God refused Abraham's reasoning, changed history and made a way for Isaac to be born of Abraham and Sarah. God did not appreciate Abraham’s lie about his wife. The second example you used in 1 Samuel 21:1, David lies to Ahimelech “and said to him, "Why are you alone and no one with you?" David lies and in 1 Samuel 22:16f, 85 men lost their lives as well as wives, children and animals in the city of Nob in this battle of Israel’s civil war. Lying doesn’t pay. Lying is sin anyway you cut it. The question comes when your wife comes home with spiked hair painted bright green and asks you how you like her new hair style. One doesn’t need to lie to tell the truth, “It is interesting.” |

66 | who was the man in the vision | Acts 16:19 | Rolff | 207806
You have missed the point. It is not who but what. It was a vision that is who. But the fact it was a vision of a Macadonian asking him to come and help gave Paul direction when he was probably headed back toward Galatia.
67 | how do i get control of my will? | Colossians | Rolff | 207780
Subject: how do i get control of my will? Note: Walk for Christ, Welcome to the forum! How do you stop your bad habits. Start by reading Romans 7, Paul had the same problem. The things I want to do, I do not. The things I don't want to do, I am doing. Then move on to Romans, Chapter 8 which gives us the victory. God made them male and female. Once God made a man, he did not declare things good, but made woman and then said, it was "very good." Scripture expects a man to have a wife and to express his God given sex drive inside marriage. We have three spiritual enemies. The world, the flesh and the devil. We are to be in the world but not of the world. If your car works well and gets you to work, why get a fancy new car? This is the world. The Devil influences us to be lazy, lie and kill (John 8:44) among other temptations. But for many men the problem is the flesh. Wine, women, song, smoking, and drinking/drugs, we are to consider ourselves dead to sin. Gal 2:20. I personally have found 1. cold showers, 2. exercise does wonders to change the mind and clean it up. 3. Read my Bible and 4. pray. Prayer and Bible reading don't work so well when I am in the middle of temptation, 5. do something else like walk/run until I am exhausted when tempted works the best for me. From a Biblical point of view using Psalm 119:9-11. Read, memorize meditate on God's Word will keep you from sin. |

68 | salvation | Phil 2:12 | Rolff | 207762
Philippians 2:12, What does it mean to work out the salvation? Philippians two is one of the marvelous passages of scripture that describes a view of our Saviour as he moved from heaven to earth. Read this passage without breaks. Philippians 2:1-11 is one paragraph. Beginning with verse 12 is a second paragraph applying what Christ has done to our lives. Philippians 2:1 If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. Geneva Bible Notes states, “(4) The conclusion: we must go on to salvation with humility and submission by the way of our vocation. (m) He is said to make an end of his salvation who runs in the race of righteousness.” Adam Clarke says it this way, “Go on, walking by the same rule, and minding the same thing, till your salvation be completed: till, filled with love to God and man, ye walk unblamably in all his testimonies, having your fruit unto holiness, and your end everlasting life.” Conclusion: Christ has done all this for you. Now you make sure you have the same attitude as Christ. Don’t be afraid to be a doulos (servant/slave) just like Jesus was an example. Don't sit in a corner but continue doing your good works because of what Christ has done for you. Salvations is simple enough a child can enter but complex enough Theologians sit and scratch their heads after a lifetime of study. |

69 | Clarification needed, Justme | Bible general Archive 4 | Rolff | 207751
Senator Joe Biden's stated religion is Roman Catholic. Justme wasn't pushing a political agenda he/she asked us to pray. I see nothing in the rules to forbid prayer on this forum. Seems to me Justme was right on the money reminding us to remember the following passage: "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity." 1 Timothy 2:1-2 |

71 | Questioning Apostasy | John 10:28 | Rolff | 207600
We can question all things based on Scripture. The Bible is our Canon, or measuring stick to measure all things, especially ourselves. Something is either correct or not based on God's Word. This evaluation should be done in love and many times I keep my thoughts to myself. I do hope I have answered your question, if not please restate your question and I will make another effort. Blessings, as you try to discern the hard things of Spiritual warfare. |

72 | Questioning Apostasy | John 10:28 | Rolff | 207575
Wild Olive Shoot writes, "Can you really question it and if so how?" Your question needs an antecedent to the “it”. As written, I don’t understand your question. To the first question, apostasy is not new. Much of the epistles were written to combat apostasy. It exists today and it will get worse in the end times as the verses you point out indicate. |

73 | Heb6:4-6 Loosing salvation or what? | Heb 6:4 | Rolff | 207569
Hebrews 6:4-6, “For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 6:5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6:6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame.” Welcome to the net and we welcome your question. This is one of the more difficult passages of the Bible. This passage never indicates the author of Hebrews is talking about one that was saved. This person has been enlightened and even tasted from the dinner table, but never really joined into the supper. There are people, like husbands of saved wives (or wives of husbands) that enjoy a saved spouse; they have been extremely close to the kingdom. They have heard prayer requests and watched them be answered. They have gone to church and come under conviction, but refused to repent. They may even attend church and act like Christians for a time but once they walk away they have condemned themselves. |

74 | Reason Paul might not be Hebrews author? | Hebrews | Rolff | 207504
HEB 2:3 "how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard" This verse seems to indicate that it was a second generation Christian. Lord, first hearers, confirmed to us... HEB 13:23 "Take notice that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom, if he comes soon, I shall see you. HEB 13:24 Greet all of your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you. HEB 13:25 ¶ Grace be with you all." Timothy was one of Paul's "own" and the wording is very similar to something Paul would write. We will find out in Heaven. |

75 | Ezekiel's Vision and Type of Angels? | Ezek 1:6 | Rolff | 207321
Question: What kind of angels are those, are they the same as the angels in Revelation and what are they called? First, angel means messenger. In the Apocalypse (Revelation) John calls the seven pastors of the seven churches angels (1:20.) Messengers can be men or supernatural beings, but they are all messengers. Second, while there is nothing wrong with your question. It reminds me of the President visiting a hotel and the news media interviewing the maids instead of the President. Our focus should be on Jesus not his messengers. Colossians 2:18 passes along this concept. “Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,” Third, a close read of Scripture gives many different forms of Spirit beings, for lack of a better word. Both Ephesians and Colossians give four separate and distinct spiritual groupings. EPH 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. COL 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created by Him and for Him. Paul in Romans 8:38 mentions angels and principalities and possibly powers as being separate spiritual groupings. “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,” We know there are angels, archangels, seraphs, cherubs as four groupings of spirit beings. Fourth, A being that has a wingspan two times it’s height is probably a Cherub. A. Seraphs have six wings. Isaiah 6:2 “Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.” B. Cherubs have wings. Exodus 25:20 “And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.” C. Cherubs can fly. Psalm 18:10, “And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. “ D. Ezekiel 1 and 10 are a view of the throne room of YHWH. (10:4) and the beings are probably Cherubs (Cherubim is a Hebrew plural and Cherubims is an English plural, plural.) E. Revelation 4:8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come." The six winged spirit beings match Seraphs as we understand the question. F. There is much we don’t understand about spirit beings and I am far more interested in the One Speaking in Ezekiel 1:26-28 and between the lamp-stands in Revelation 1. Daniel 7, also has about the same view of what I see as my Savior. |

77 | Is church membership biblical? | Heb 10:25 | Rolff | 207261
There are a number of items the Bible does not talk about directly but are covered under general rules. Romans 16: is about members of the church. Many of the Pauline letters talk about Christians as part of a whole, especially the last chapter of his epistles. 1 Corinthians 5:4 (NASB) In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 5:7 Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. This passage is clearly talking about removing one from the church, if not the church membership list. 3 John 1:9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. 1:10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and he forbids those who desire to do so, and puts them out of the church. One can’t be put out if they aren’t part of something. While on a different subject, it is one of the strongest “proof texts” for church membership. |

78 | How to convince someone to go to church | Heb 10:25 | Rolff | 207255
1. Churches are like cars. No one car fits every budget or taste. I prefer cheap imports that get good gas mileage over fancy and plush. 2. If you don't go to church where does one tithe? Tithes and offerings are a clear teaching of scripture. 3. How does one do the ordnances of communion and baptism by yourself? Both are commanded of believers in the New Testament. 4. After salvation in Acts 2 and 20, they met together. Hebrews 10:25 does indicate we will attend. The normal Christian life will want to be with other believers. 5. When you are down and out of luck, God’s people should build you up, put groceries on your doorstep, pray for you, and maybe even give you a tip on a job you hadn’t noticed. 6. On a totally secular level, it is a great place to interface with other business people and trade info and maybe business. I live in California where the housing market is almost entirely dead as I write. I have two wonderful women I am earnestly praying for that they will sell houses. One put a house on the market this week and I am calling it an answer to prayer. Gives me faith, gives her family an income. 7. If you don’t want to be with God’s people on earth, why in the world would you want to be with God’s people in heaven? 8. Don’t give me the gotta go to church thing. I promise you I will be fishing next week: rebellion lives deep in my heart. I go to church because my children and grand-children watch me and I am an example. I go to church to fellowship. I love the live music and enjoy the singing. I enjoy looking at the pretty spirit-filled women interacting with husbands and children. I want to give my pastor encouragement, and my attendance helps. The Holy Spirit bugs me when I stay home and asks why aren’t I in church? These are the reasons I go to church 60 years on. |

79 | revelation, inspiration, illumination | Bible general Archive 4 | Rolff | 207253
I agree with the previous post, that people will make the words say what they want them to say out of ignorance or purpose. But a quick and dirty definition of the three words from a Conservative Protestant theology would be as follows Revelation is from God. The Bible is God's revealed will. (We could mention the Book of Revelation, which is the Apocalypse, or unveiling of the future. Revelation means unveiling.) Inspiration is the method God used to share his revealed will to the authors of Scripture. Illumination is where we are at. As we read God's Word the Spirit of God illuminates our minds to his Word. When we turn on a light the room is illuminated. As we read Scripture the Holy Spirit illuminates our minds. Hope this helps |

80 | What happend to Jonah? | Nah 1:1 | Rolff | 207240
Your question is unknown but I can answer as a man with the same mindset. Melancholy personalities tend to be perfectionists and thinkers; they are party poopers that can always see the worst in mankind and the most negative future. When things don’t go the way they want, they ask for death—“because things are going to get worse anyway.” Elijah was most likely a melancholy personality. God did not kill Elijah as he asked in 1 Kings 19:4, but used him for many years as his servant before taking him up in a chariot only to be seen hundreds of years later as part of the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:3. [Jonah and Elijah probably knew each other and worked together. See 2 Kings 10:17 and 2 Kings 14:25, word of mouth says the servant in 1 Kings 18:43 was Jonah.] The book of Jonah is not a finished book. There are no nice ending to Jonah. Chapter four is half-way through a narrative about a gourd—God interrupts—and the book is over with us wanting more. God does not choose to give an ending to this book. I personally believe God doesn’t answer these stupid depressed prayers. He did not give Elijah his request in 1 Kings 19. He has never given me my request and I doubt He gave Jonah his request of death. Jonah had to learn to live with God’s goodness and hopefully, sitting there on the side of the cliff listening to happy people in Nineveh, with a withered gourd, he learned that God is good. God is good all the time. |
