But the question remains who decides what is objective versus subjective. No addition to scripture is ideal but any interpretation of scripture is in fact an addition to that scripture. Therefore Sola Scriptura may be the goal but it is a goal that can never be absolutely obtainable. This is exactly why there are so many different theological positions in this world today. |

After much discussion, debate, and research, the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year 2016 is post-truth – an adjective defined as ‘relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief’. Examples given in the political world Obama found Isis; Bush was behind 9/11. Problem who decides what are objective facts versus a personal opinion shaped by their limited perspective. |

On abortion I agree scripture does speak to abortion but the word abortion is not in scripture. Nor is a prohibition against a homosexual in the pulpit. They are wrong but you can not produce a verse that says God forebides an abortion or a homosexual in the pulpit. You can find verses that you interpret as saying that. But none say it. So it is not scripture alone, it is scripture and YOUR interpretation of it alone. That is my point. It is not always scripture alone. Many times it is our interpretation of scripture. And each of us have some unique interpretation of some part of scripture. |

I cry out scripture alone because that same message has been often used to discredit others. Sort of turning the table around don't you see. The Pharisees often justified themselves by hiding behind scripture, the letter of law rather living by the intent of the law. Is it sin to do business with a non Christian? No probably not Does it glorify God? No Do you stand a good chance of being cheated dealing with a sinner? Yes Is it wisdom to do business with a sinner? No When scripture warned us about being unequally yoked, telling us light has no business with darkness, was God setting up a pitfall for us to fall into sin or giving us wisdom? Giving us wisdom. Scripture tells us many places the sinful world is crafty when it comes to money. Scripture tells us to learn from the world's handling of money. Not so we can cheat but so we don't get cheated. Which brings us back to the question why would anyone want to deal with a person that because of sin will try to cheat you? Why ignore Scriptures admonishment not to have anything to do with them |

How should we view Christianity? In many cases Scripture draws a line in the sand, a line which if crossed is sin. Is it expected that if we love Christ we will always walk just inside the righteous side. Or is it expected that we walk so far away from the line in righteousness that the Line is no longer visible in the distance? I see people that want to justify things saying there is no prohibition against this. That is exactly the argument of the Pharisees, they justified themselves with the law working either side for their favor. The first thing we must always do is ask does this action glorify God. If not does it open God to unjust criticism? Lastly if others see me doing this will it reinforce a positive perception of a Christian or not? I believe if we try to live like that the line in sand will be distant to us at least not close enough to make us ask can we cross it and what will happen. |

How did you come to that suspicion that it does not apply to retail purchases? Where is the cut off? Does it apply only to partnerships, marriages, wholesale sales? Where is the cutoff? And who decides what the cutoff is? Look at a sale. You purchase something from a buyer in faith. Faith that the product is what the seller says. The seller takes your money as genuine, or credit card as being yours on faith. It is a trust, a covenant relationship you enter into. So we look at the verse again, Do not be bound together with an unbeliever. Is that not saying do not enter into trust or covenant? It goes on to say what fellowship has the light with darkness? Again speaking of relationship. How did you come to the determination of what this applies to and what it does not apply to in a Christians life? |

Do we live by law needing it to bind or free us or do we live lead of the Spirit made Holy by Christ striving to remain holy and righteous. Beja not to be unfair or to turn this ugly but your point sounds just like the point the Pharisees made. They justified themselves by saying," We live by the law and since the law is not specific on this we can have a free conscience to do as we please."? You are in effect saying, "I live by scripture and it isn't specifically forbidden in scripture so I can do as I please with a free conscience." Many thing aren't specifically mentioned in scripture but I am sure you would agree they are wrong. Abortion, heron usage, homosexual in pulpit and the list goes on. Back to my question why would you want to buy from a sinner when you know he is a slave to sin and will try to sin against you? |

I do not think we can legislate Christianity and I think it was the church's attempt to do so, that is what hastened the collapse of the church in the US. Unfortunately the church allowed compromise into it's midst. Take the issue of divorce, divorce rates within the church almost mimics the world. Other issues like drug usage, adultery, porn, cheating on income tax and etc. all are reflected in the church in almost the same percentages of the world. Either Christians are changed according to 2 Cor. 5:17 or they are not. I believe the church has learned to build tolerances, personal facades and put in place ways to keep people distant so that no one really knows anyone, allowing non Christians to fit right in. We will never purge sin from the church as long as sin is repudiated by lip service alone and not action. My opinion the church of America must be swept clean, starting at the top (leadership) and on down. It takes more than preaching about sin, sinlessness and nothing less can be found in the church for her to be the unblemished bride. |

Beja I missed the obvious question why would you want to do business with a non Christian? Before salvation we are all tainted with sin so it would make sense that a non Christian would cheat you. You can expect to be cheated. In the case or Amazon it gets blurred in that Amazon is the middleman and the actual business you may be buying from could be anyone, Christian or not. Also I am sure almost has a story of dealing with a so called Christian and being robbed blind. Years ago there was a Christian boycott of 7 - 11. It had an effect. Many went out of business but the ones that remain have for the most part stopped selling porn. Personally I seek out Christian busnesses, likewise I avoid those that openly mock Christianity or sell products that promote sin. I do my best to be a good steward and not blend into the world. Have I bought from Amazon? Yes but it was from a Christian business that does business on Amazon. Perhaps I should rethink that? |

That is cop out, Orthodox Jews live in a world filled with bacon and cheeseburgers, multi material fabrics, a world where the biggest entertainment and social interaction night is Friday night. Know this most Jews must spend more to live as the do. A Jews Kosher products usually are more expensive than the same non kosher produce. But they believe the welfare of their soul is worth more than what they could save by joining the world. You can buy electronics not made in China you can buy most anything not made in some other country, you might have to pay more but it can be done. Perhaps if more Christians took the stand I will not compromise by beliefs more products would be made in the US, Pornography would die for lack of market and once again we would be truly one nation under God |

I believe Justme is correct, 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NASB) 14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Clearly tells us we have no business with darkness. I believe this is one of the biggest failures of the Christian Church today, too often we fade into the world instead of being a light to the world. We preach about sin, we may chant and protest about sin but after the spotlight is off too many today fade into the shadows and live like the world. How far you take this is determined by your conscious but if you know someone/something is promoting sin how do you justify becoming a part of it by yoking yourself to them. And you do yoke yourself if you buy or sell through them, you become a partaker of their business and they view you as their customer. It is just like the elections I fail to understand how any true Christian could have voted for someone that supported abortion and even worst partial birth abortion. Yet we know many so called Christians did and will probably do it again in the future. God have mercy! |
