61 | What is God really asking here? | Gen 3:9 | Asis | 84844
Title: Barnes’ Notes on the Old Testament Author: Barnes, Albert The voice, we conceive, is the thunder of the approach of God and his call to Adam. The hiding is another token of the childlike simplicity of the parents of our race under the shame and fear of guilt. The question, “Where art thou?” implies that the Lord was aware of their endeavor to hide themselves from him. What is the first question in the new Testament. Matthew 2.2 |

62 | Echoes from Genesis | Gen 8:22 | Asis | 84707
What is the everlasting covenant that the bow represents? Genesis 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. [KJV] Everytime I see the bow I remember that God will not destroy us with a flood ever again. I am reminded that God's wrath will come with fire. 2 Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [11] Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, [12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? [13] Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. [KJV] We must be ready to be a witness (martyr) to everyone we meet. We must be ready to give evidence by our lives (the way we live), the way we face adversity, the way we love one another, the way we forgive, of the gospel of the Kingdom of God. When you see the bow acknowledge God as the creator and be reminded the time is short. |

63 | Circumcised of the heart? | Gen 17:10 | Asis | 97730
shpagach, welcome to the Forum. We greet you in the name of Christ, the Messiah. To understand circumcision of the heart one must look at Genesis 17. This is the account of Abram, which means HIGH FATHER, and the covenant that God made with him. God asks Abram to "walk before Him and be perfect. Alfred Barnes in his commentary of the Old Testament says: For, first, he has now faith in the Lord, which is the fruit of the new man in him prevailing over the old, and is therefore competent to obey; and, next, the Lord in whom he believes is God Almighty, the all-efficient Spirit, who worketh both to will and to do in the destroying of sin and building up of holiness. “Walk”—act in the most comprehensive sense of the term; “before me,” and not behind, as one conscious of doing what is, not displeasing, but pleasing to me; “and be perfect,” not sincere merely, unless in the primitive sense of duty, but complete, upright, holy, not only in walk, which is provided for in the previous clause, but in heart, the spring of action. Me again. Abram agrees and God makes a covenant with him. He tells him he will be the father of many nations. Abram is 99 years old and has no children. He believes what God has said "The Promise" and God changes his name to Abraham, which means FATHER OF A MULTITUDE. Every time someone addressed Abraham they were calling out the promise of God to him (verses 1-8). Abraham's part of the covenant was to be circumcised. This is the cutting off of the foreskin of the male. Covenants are agreements between two parties that ensure a relationship. They are sealed with blood. If either party of a covenant breaks the covenant the other has the right to take their life. God made a covenant by Himself to Abraham. Abraham was to seal his covenant with God ( to walk before Him and be perfect) by circumcision. This confirmation of the covenant was for all generations (more promise, verses 9-27). Now all that being said. Paul says in Romans 2:17-29 that it is not the fact that one has the physical sign (circumcision) of partaking of the Abrahamic covenant. It is a heart thing. It is not the fact that you are missing some skin that makes you someone who walks before God. It is the condition of your heart. You see at the time of Christ and even now the Jews think that they are something and the righteousness of God just because they are Jews. God says that you do not get into heaven just because of who you are. It is because of what you are. It is because you have believed God, that He sent His Son to die for you on the Cross and rasied Him from the dead, that YOU have circumcised your heart and entered into covenant with God. You have become a Jew (Rom 2:29). God is not interested in outward signs. He is not impressed by how loud you sing or shout Hallelujah or quote scripture. He is concened about your heart condition. Have you given your heart to Him. Have you surrended your life to Him. Is He your all in all? If your answer is YES then your heart has been crcumcised. I hope this has answered your question? If not ask another. Shalom Asis |

64 | How is Gen 27:40 fulfilled? | Gen 27:40 | Asis | 85705
At the time the prophesy was given Saul was in the loins of Jacob as we were in the loins of Adam at the time of the fall. So even though the prophecy was given to Jacob, the "house" of Jacob fulfilled it. Israelites are the decendants of Jacob - Israel. Not to be confused with Israelis. I hope this has helped you. your brother Asis |

65 | Do altars belong in christian churches? | Ex 17:15 | Asis | 97754
John The altar at a church is a place where we can give to God that which we desire to be rid of. I know that we don't really need a place to lay down that thing which we hold dearer than our Lord. We can give to Him whatever is coming between us and God anywhere. But the altar is a symbol much like water baptism, of a place where we can offer up that which holds us down. If a platform called an altar is needed for my brother to lay down pornograghy then build a lots of platforms. I do not believe that believers go to an altar in a church to make a sacrifice to God. It is a place where we partake of the sacrifice God has given for us. Jeff |

66 | filled and upon mean the same thing | Ex 35:31 | Asis | 97556
dse Consider the following verse: Exodus 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; [KJV] In the Old Testament the spirit of God would fill, come upon, people for a specific task. Like in the above verse. When the task was done He left that person. 1 Samuel 11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. [KJV] 1 Samuel 16:13-16 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. [14] But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. [15] And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. [16] Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. [KJV] In the New Testament the Holy Spirit of God comes to dwell in the body of the believer. 1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [KJV] The Spirit of God comes and takes up residence in us. Ain't that cool? Asis |

67 | Unclean food for the Christian? | Lev 1:1 | Asis | 105981
Brother Tim How does Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. [KJV] fit in with what you are saying? Jesus seems to be telling us that the Law will stay in effect until the end of the age. I think that we as believers are not under the Law of sin and death but now are under a new Law, the law of the Spirit of life (Romans 8:2). Is it possible that when we try to do this "walk" by our own understanding and in our own effort that we place ourselves back under the Law that is still in effect for non-believers? The Law was the way to righteousness. A way that none of us could completely follow. A way of works. The purpose of the law was to show us that we, in our own effort, could not attain that which only Jesus was able to do, BE RIGHTEOUS. By our own inability to ovserve the Law in it entirety we learn how much sin is in control of our lives. We find that is is only through Jesus that we are able to attain the unattainable. Romans 3:21-28 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; [22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; [26] To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. [27] Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. [28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. [KJV] So now I understand that we are no longer under the law of sin and death but have a new and better contract the law of the Spirit of life. Not that the law has been abolished but that it has been superceded. In Christ Jeff |

69 | what is the gift of Moses? | Lev 14:4 | Asis | 89757
Title: Barnes’ Notes on the New Testament Author: Barnes, Albert See thou tell no man—This command is to be understood as extending only to the time until he had made the proper representation to the priest. It was his duty to hasten to him immediately Lev. 14:2 (2“This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing. Now he shall be brought to the priest,) ; not to delay by talking about it, but, as the first thing, to obey the laws of God, and make proper acknowledgments to him by an offering. The place where this cure was performed was in Galilee, a distance of 40 or 50 miles from Jerusalem; and it was his duty to make haste to the residence of the priest, and obtain his sanction to the reality of the cure. Perhaps, also, Christ was apprehensive that the report would go “before” the man if he delayed, and the priest, through opposition to Jesus, might pronounce it an imposition. And offer the gift that Moses commanded—That Moses directed to be offered by a leper when he was cured. That gift consisted of “two birds alive and clean, cedar-wood, scarlet, and hyssop,” Lev. 14:4. For a testimony unto them—Not to the priest, but to the people. Show thyself to the priest, and get his testimony to the reality of the cure, as a proof to the people that the healing is genuine. It was necessary that he should have that testimony before he could be received to the congregation or allowed to mingle with the people. Having this, he would be, of course, restored to the privileges of social and religious life, and the proof of the miracle, to the people, would be put beyond a doubt. I hope this answers your question. It shows that Jesus indeed did not abolish the Law but was the fulfillment of it. |

70 | Was she suppose to tell? | Num 23:19 | Asis | 85848
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? [KJV] jbw your zest for the word of God is invigorating and an example for all. Jesus said, ". . . unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."(John 14:6) [KJV] He is the truth. Can or would He lie? If He said it does He mean it? These questions should be settled within your heart before you let them proceed out of your mouth. Your zeal for God's word shows the burning desire that He has put into your heart for His truth. Let Him show you the way. Do not rely on the easy way. Do not rely on us, those who respond on the forum. We all have skew on the word. Might I suggest acouple of books that may help you in your study of the Word of God. "Vine's Theological Dictionary" and "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible" There are a great many Strong's and of those I have seen this one is really good. These are not real expensive you can get both for about 40 dollars. Continue to dig deep into God's word. By the way, anytime you see ". . ." before or after a scripture, find out what was left out. Of course. I could never have learned about the Lord if I had stopped asking questions. Yours are all very good. Ask God for ALL He has to give you, then receive that which He gives. James 1:5-6 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. [6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. [KJV] I hope you didn't weep with sadness but with the realization that God has worked a wonder in you. The tears of a humble heart. Praise God |

73 | Our name erased or added to Book of Life | Deut 32:32 | Asis | 87158
What really matters is that at the day of accounting our name is found in the book. We must tell others of the good news in Jesus so they have a choice. The choice is to NOT sin against God. God is asking the world to believe Him and follow Jesus. When we choose to not follow we sin against God. What is meant by "under grace"? |

There is no reference to her geneology in the Bible. Geneologies were kept of the men not of the women. That is why it is so wonderous that God included Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and of course Mary in the geneology of Jesus. She was a woman used of God.

78 | Is Satan ruler over the earth? | Ps 24:1 | Asis | 83712
Psa. 115:16 (NASB) The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, But the earth He has given to the sons of men. Col. 1:13 through Col. 1:14 (NASB) 13For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Domain according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary means 1 a : complete and absolute ownership of land -- compare EMINENT DOMAIN b : land so owned 2 : a territory over which dominion is exercised Who, I might ask, is the head, the ruler of the domain of darkness and where is that domain located. Jesus says: John 12:27 through John 12:33 (NASB) 27“Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28“Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.” 30Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes. 31“Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” 33But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die. Who is Jesus talking about when He said "The ruler of this world?" John 14:30 through John 14:31 (NASB) 30“I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; 31but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here. Who is it that "finds nothing in Jesus." John 16:7 through John 16:11 (NASB) 7“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. What is the name of the ruler of this world that has been judged. And come to think about it how did he become ruler of this word since God gave dominion of the earth to man (Genesis 1:26,27). NOW the enemy, the devil, satan is powerless thanks to our LORD and SAVIOR mighty JESUS. Heb. 2:14 through Heb. 2:18 (YLT) 14Seeing, then, the children have partaken of flesh and blood, he himself also in like manner did take part of the same, that through death he might destroy him having the power of death—that is, the devil—15and might deliver those, whoever, with fear of death, throughout all their life, were subjects of bondage, 16for, doubtless, of messengers it doth not lay hold, but of seed of Abraham it layeth hold, 17wherefore it did behove him in all things to be made like to the brethren, that he might become a kind and stedfast chief-priest in the things with God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people, 18for in that he suffered, himself being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. Jesus has made satan powerless. I sometimes wonder where that happened. In Hades maybe? The only power that satan has is the power we give him. In my reading of Neil Anderson's books "Victory Over the Darkness" and "The Bondage Breaker," (by the way that is Jesus) I cannot recall reading that Dr. Anderson said that satan has authority over man NOW. satan was ruler but no more. We have a King in absentia who has given His stewards dominion to rule in righteousness until His return. For more information read the BIBLE |

79 | Thanks to God? | Ps 30:12 | Asis | 85266
justme Three years ago I started to have signs of a heart attack. I prayed that God would not allow it to come to pass. I had been praying 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. I was quiting smoking and I was starting an extreme diet in two days, I had turned from my wicked ways. The pains seemed to go away and I thanked God and praised Him. I slept good that night. In the mornig on my way to work the pain came back. Much worse than the night before. I feel that I was afraid to acknowledge that I might die from this. Now here is the point of my story. I became aware that if I died because of this I would be with Jesus and if God wasn't finished using me for the work He had for me I wasn't going to die. Either way that was a good thing. It was a win-win situation. A peace fell upon me so great that when I went into my bosses office and told him I was having a heart attack and he should call 911 he did not believe me. Lord, I ask that the peace that is beyind all understanding would come upon justme right now. Your word says That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. God even thopugh we cannot see each other we are gathering in the name of Jesus and we ask for healing for Ray and justme. Lord we are touching ion our heart as if we are in contact like my wife and I just were, agreeing in petition for justme and Ray. Lord I thank you that you are a God that answers prayer. We look to you for our provision. You are the healer, the great physician. We thank you for your touch upon justme and Ray. Praise you Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Jira, Jehovah Shalom. We come before you in the name of you precious Son Jesus. |

80 | resisting temptation | Ps 119:11 | Asis | 86777
Hello tms57mi Temptation is not sin. It is when we yield to the temptation that we sin. It is when the thought comes (temptation) that the battle begins in your mind. If we continue to think on the thought (temptation) it will blosom into lust for the thought and become sin (James 1:12-18). If we decide not to give in to the thought but rely on God's truth to see us through, we will not give in. God has promised that there is no temptaion that will come on us that is not common to all men. There is no unique temptation. We have all been through them. God says He is faithful, He is trustworthy Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? If He says it, He'll do it. If He said it, it is true. He says He will not allow a temptation to come upon you which you are not capable of handling. If I am tempted to say smoke some weed I know that I must be able to overcome that temptation or God would not have allowed it to come upon me. That is what His word says. God knows that I have the will to choose Him over the temptation. He says He will provide the escape from the temptation. So if I am tempted in any area of my life I KNOW that I am able to endure the temptation because GOD has provided the escape and He has said I AM ABLE to overcome it.
