61 | IS there any answers out there? | NT general Archive 1 | Asis | 100105
Ed My friend you missed the point. Our actions are only what others perceive them to be. Like the teenager who says "I love you" but it comes out with a tone that says "I'm lying." The perception of others becomes the reality of what we are saying. The point I think I was making was that we need to express the love of Jesus in all we say and do. There is a lot that is said on the forum that does not exhibit the Love of Christ. It is not about who is right or who is wrong. That should not be an issue in a bible study. Not unless Jesus is teaching it. Jeff Ps Do not take things so personal. |

62 | IS there any answers out there? | NT general Archive 1 | Asis | 99952
John After Graceful was run off it seemed to me that you were the next target. The other day I sat done and started to write some feelings concerning being a Christian and ended up writing about the Forum. It is impossible for one to speak to the word without bias of ones denomination. It is improper for anyone to tell me that what I believe is wrong and what they believe is right. Scripture talks for itself. The Word and the Holy Spirit will correct. For the word of God is LIVING AND ACTIVE and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to JUDGE THE THOUGHT AND INTENTIONS of the heart. God will change us not any forceful arguement. Any way I want to encourage you that God has put you in Christ (1 Cor 1:30). When you are there you are the image of Him. In Him you are made complete (Col 2:9-13). DESPAIR NOT that is a lie from satan that you are NOT in Christ and His image. The following is some babblings form Jeff. Why does God equip us with the means to become complete in Him. Is it all about a our personal experience with Him is this what He is looking for. Is the Divine purpose one of individual experience? God has made us part of a body. He calls it church, ekklesia. A calling out, congregation, assembly. We are called out to be His body. We have the personal experience with him to prepare us for the calling. He has equipped us with all we need to partake of the divine nature. IN HIM is where we are to live. In Him through the Cross is deliverance which will make us without spot or wrinkle. The Cross removes us from the picture. We indeed become earthen vessels for Him. He said for us to stay in Him and He will stay in us. He has given us His Spirit to empower us to do what He requires. We indeed become instruments of righteousness. Get out of the way. Let God be God. Stop trying to help Him do His will. He can do it all Himself. We think it is our job to do the will of God. God has given us His word to provide us with a guide to explain what He has provided for, done to, made, completed in us through faith in Jesus Christ. If you want to know about the reason for the Old Testament look only to what God has provided in the New Testament. The things of the Old are to show that God is real. It is a way for Him to explain to us in our feebleness who He is. It is the place where He tells us of His promises. It is the New that gives life. It is the New that makes the promises a reality in our lives. It makes no difference if sheol is Hades or who goes there or if hell is now or is for the future. The Old is a picture of what we HAVE in the NEW. Once saved always saved? It is only important that we ARE saved, justified and sanctified through faith in Jesus Christ. We are wasting our time with petty arguments over inconsequential trivia. “Look at me I know Greek. I have been studying the bible for 97 years.” What have you learned from all that study? Are we only tying to show others what we know? Or are we directing them to the Savior. Are explaining what scripture says about who we are in Christ? Are we equipping the saints for the service to God? Are we helping those who are burdened to experience the life, the rest, the peace, the confidence, the boldness, the healing that is in our Savior? I am more interested in knowing what God wants from me than whether He invented evil. I want to know how to stop evil, how to walk by the Spirit, how to walk in the light, how to have the fruit of the Spirit, how to defeat temptation, how to not sin, how to be obedient to God. Am I really a son of God? A member of His family? A joint heir with Jesus? How do I get IN CHRIST? How does one pray? If I have been transferred into the Kingdom of God’s Son what does that mean? What do I have to do so when I stand before Jesus He says “Good to see you Jeff. Well done My good and faithful servant.” Do I have to DO anything for that? Does the life of Christ show on these pages? When they are read do we see Jesus? If we read between the lines would the words spell L O V E ? Questions are asked for various reasons. Some to trap babes and take them away from the truth? Some to make us explain our beliefs by what God has said. Some are to find the truth about this thing we call the Christian Walk. Some are out right attacks on our beliefs. We will be held responsible for how we respond. Like Christ or like us? The choice is ours. Who do you think God wants us to respond like? Jeff |

63 | What is meant by under the earth? | Phil 2:10 | Asis | 99418
These are the three relms of existance. Heavenly, earthly, subterraniam. The Greek word used for "under the earth" is "katachthonios" which translates subterranian. There are beings, things (by the way the word thing is italicized in my NASB bible which means it is included by the translators to make the translation smooth and is not in the manuscript) in the underworld. They bow at the name of Jesus. Think about the demons at Gergesenes. they knew Jesus and obeyed His command. My personal understanding of this verse is that it is for NOW. I know in my experience that The name of Jesus has the power to make people bow NOW. I have a hat that bears the name of Jesus Christ on it. I was wearing it when I went into a restraunt for lunch a man entered and read my hat and as he waited to be seated would not look at me except in glances as if the name would change on my hat. He by his behavior was bowing at the name of Jesus. He was acknowledging the Lordship and Authority of the King by his behavior. When the name of Jesus is used "things" wherever they may be must, should bow. Asis |

The Scriptures declare that we are “dead indeed”, but nowhere do they say that we are dead in ourselves. We shall look In vain to find death within; that is just the place where it is not to be found. We are dead not in ourselves but in Christ. We were crucified with Him because we were in Him. We are familiar with the words of the Lord Jesus, “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4). Let us consider them for a moment. First they remind us once again that we never have to struggle to get into Christ. We are not told to get there, for we are there; but we are told to stay where we have been placed. It was God’s own act that putus in Christ, and we are to abide in Him. But further this verse lays down for us a divine principle, which is that God has done the work in Christ and not in us as individuals. The all inclusive death and the all inclusive resurrection of God’s Son were accomplished fully and finally apart from us in the first place. It is the history of Christ which is to become the experience of the Christian, and we have no spiritual experience apart from Him. The Scriptures tell us that we were crucified “with Him,” that we were quickened, raised, and set by God in the heavenlies Iin Him,” and that we are complete “in Him” (Rom 6:6; Eph 2:5-6; Col 2:10). If this is true then why are so many of us walking around trying to DO Christianity. What is it that prevents us from living the life God has all ready provided for us. Why don't we partake of the divine nature. How come we fill our minds with scripture but we don't let it affect our lives. Why do we argue about trivia when so many are suffering by not partaking what Jesus has all ready done? What do you think? |

66 | What's Hebrew for soulWhere in Scripture | Gen 2:7 | Asis | 97967
Tara1 The Hebrew word for spirit is RUWACH. It means wind and is the word used for breath in Gen 6:17. In Gen 7:22 the word translated breath is NESHAMAH which means a puff, i.e. wind, angry or vital breath, divine inspiration, intellect, or (concrete) an animal :- blast, (that) breath (-eth), inspiration, soul, spirit. Is the point of your question whether animals have a spirit? God at the flood allowed those who had breath, the breath of life, that He did not save to die in the flood. He saved for Himself a remnant of the whole. In relation to the numbers that died compared to the small number He saved He refered the those who died as all (a Figure of speech). The difference between the animals and man is the breath of God (the hebrew word means breath and spirit). The Bible does not say that the animals got the breath of God. The context of the verses you cited shows in one respect man living under the old covenant and animals have one thing in common. They all die. BUT NOW we are living under a New and Better Covenant and have received the life of God, eternal life. In other words Jesus life was given for us not the animals. This is not offered to animals only us. That is the only difference that matters. Asis |

67 | Do altars belong in christian churches? | Ex 17:15 | Asis | 97754
John The altar at a church is a place where we can give to God that which we desire to be rid of. I know that we don't really need a place to lay down that thing which we hold dearer than our Lord. We can give to Him whatever is coming between us and God anywhere. But the altar is a symbol much like water baptism, of a place where we can offer up that which holds us down. If a platform called an altar is needed for my brother to lay down pornograghy then build a lots of platforms. I do not believe that believers go to an altar in a church to make a sacrifice to God. It is a place where we partake of the sacrifice God has given for us. Jeff |

68 | What's Hebrew for soulWhere in Scripture | Gen 2:7 | Asis | 97735
Nathaniel The Hebrew word for "soul" is NEPHESH. It means a breathing creature. Genesis 1:19-25 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. [20] And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. [21] And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. [22] And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. [23] And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. [24] And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. [25] And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. [KJV] The word creature in verse 21 is the Hebrew word NEPHESH. Therefore the animals are a living soul. The diference between them and us is that God did not breathe on them and give them a spirit (Gen 2:7). The soul is the mind will and emotions. Animals have these. But it is the spirit which comes from God (not the Holy Spirit) which separates us from the animals. I hope this has helped Asis |

69 | Circumcised of the heart? | Gen 17:10 | Asis | 97730
shpagach, welcome to the Forum. We greet you in the name of Christ, the Messiah. To understand circumcision of the heart one must look at Genesis 17. This is the account of Abram, which means HIGH FATHER, and the covenant that God made with him. God asks Abram to "walk before Him and be perfect. Alfred Barnes in his commentary of the Old Testament says: For, first, he has now faith in the Lord, which is the fruit of the new man in him prevailing over the old, and is therefore competent to obey; and, next, the Lord in whom he believes is God Almighty, the all-efficient Spirit, who worketh both to will and to do in the destroying of sin and building up of holiness. “Walk”—act in the most comprehensive sense of the term; “before me,” and not behind, as one conscious of doing what is, not displeasing, but pleasing to me; “and be perfect,” not sincere merely, unless in the primitive sense of duty, but complete, upright, holy, not only in walk, which is provided for in the previous clause, but in heart, the spring of action. Me again. Abram agrees and God makes a covenant with him. He tells him he will be the father of many nations. Abram is 99 years old and has no children. He believes what God has said "The Promise" and God changes his name to Abraham, which means FATHER OF A MULTITUDE. Every time someone addressed Abraham they were calling out the promise of God to him (verses 1-8). Abraham's part of the covenant was to be circumcised. This is the cutting off of the foreskin of the male. Covenants are agreements between two parties that ensure a relationship. They are sealed with blood. If either party of a covenant breaks the covenant the other has the right to take their life. God made a covenant by Himself to Abraham. Abraham was to seal his covenant with God ( to walk before Him and be perfect) by circumcision. This confirmation of the covenant was for all generations (more promise, verses 9-27). Now all that being said. Paul says in Romans 2:17-29 that it is not the fact that one has the physical sign (circumcision) of partaking of the Abrahamic covenant. It is a heart thing. It is not the fact that you are missing some skin that makes you someone who walks before God. It is the condition of your heart. You see at the time of Christ and even now the Jews think that they are something and the righteousness of God just because they are Jews. God says that you do not get into heaven just because of who you are. It is because of what you are. It is because you have believed God, that He sent His Son to die for you on the Cross and rasied Him from the dead, that YOU have circumcised your heart and entered into covenant with God. You have become a Jew (Rom 2:29). God is not interested in outward signs. He is not impressed by how loud you sing or shout Hallelujah or quote scripture. He is concened about your heart condition. Have you given your heart to Him. Have you surrended your life to Him. Is He your all in all? If your answer is YES then your heart has been crcumcised. I hope this has answered your question? If not ask another. Shalom Asis |

70 | filled and upon mean the same thing | Ex 35:31 | Asis | 97556
dse Consider the following verse: Exodus 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; [KJV] In the Old Testament the spirit of God would fill, come upon, people for a specific task. Like in the above verse. When the task was done He left that person. 1 Samuel 11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. [KJV] 1 Samuel 16:13-16 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. [14] But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. [15] And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. [16] Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. [KJV] In the New Testament the Holy Spirit of God comes to dwell in the body of the believer. 1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? [KJV] The Spirit of God comes and takes up residence in us. Ain't that cool? Asis |

71 | Is the UPC a Christian Church? | Matt 24:11 | Asis | 97547
I just read this post and find it interesting. The last line says, "This is the catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully, he cannot be saved." Does this mean when I was ignorant of scripture and asked Jesus to be my Lord and come into my heart that I was not saved? I thought that Romans 10:9-13 told us how to be saved? And just as an after thought with all the hub bub of past discussions, "Who suffered for our salvation, DESCENDED INTO HELL, rose again the third day from the dead;" So who is this guy. Just wondering. Everything up till the end was great. Asis |

73 | Christ comes in kingdom power at the End | Mark 9:1 | Asis | 96995
Lastday Did they all die before the Spirit of promise came and endued them with power? Did they all die before they received eternal life? Then the question becomes did all who were with Jesus in Mark 9:1 stay with Him or did some leave when the sayings got too hard? The most important question is "Why does this matter." Will knowing this bring me closer to Jesus? Asis |

74 | Christ comes in kingdom power at the End | Mark 9:1 | Asis | 96962
Last day Physically, yes, just like we may, but we have eternal life and will not die as those before us. John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. [KJV] John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [KJV] John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. [KJV] Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. [KJV] I have eternal life and will not taste death. 2 Cor. 5:6-8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: [7] (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) [8] We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. [KJV] The kingdom of Jesus Christ arrived on the day of Pentecost. God transfered us from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of His Son when we first believed. We were given the life of the God, eternal life and ushered into the family as though we are natural born of God. Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: [KJV] Could it be that Rev 12:10 is refering to a past ocurrance in time. Something that has already happened. Remember Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. [KJV] Could Jesus have been refering to something in the future of in the past? Did you read Colosians 1:13? Were we transfered into a powerless Kingdom. I wonder. Asis |

76 | Why not sentences | Not Specified | Asis | 96956
Scripture is laid out ion verses. This was done by someone after the Bible was complete. Why aren't the verses laid out in the incremental units of language called sentences. Some are complete sentences some are not. How can we get the meaning of a scripture without looking at the whole sentence that contains it. Is there a reason that scripture is broken up the way it is or was it abritrarily done? In a recent post Philip. 2:6-8 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [KJV] But the sentence begins with verse 5 . .. .Philip. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [KJV] When this portion of the writers thought is included, doesn't it affect the meaning of the whole? I was just wondering why the bible is broken down in the way it is instead of sentences. Webster Dictionary says of a sentence. 4 a : a word, clause, or phrase or a group of clauses or phrases forming a syntactic unit which expresses an assertion, a question, a command, a wish, an exclamation, or the performance of an action, that in writing usually begins with a capital letter and concludes with appropriate end punctuation, and that in speaking is distinguished by characteristic patterns of stress, pitch, and pauses b : a mathematical or logical statement (as an equation or a proposition) in words or symbols. So why not split the Bible up into complete thoughts instead of partial thoughts? Anybody know why? |

79 | The Holy Spirit was guiding them? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96727
As a true worshipper, disciple, we do nothing of ourselves, rather our entire lives are guided by our Lord. What was necessary in Jerusalem after Penetecost was not necessary in Antioch. A diferent time and different circumstances. But the same God leading His people. When Paul said,Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. [KJV] He is telling us that Jesus guided His life 24/7. It is not Paul who lives. It is Christ in Him who lives. The life Paul lives is by leaning on trusting in COMPLETELY, ENTIRELY in Christ. This is the position we, the disciples now and then, ascribe to. Being instruments of righteousness played by the master musician Jesus. Is that clearer? Asis |

80 | Is that where the houses are? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 96723
It is OK as lonG as you see it for what it is . . . fiction, an opinion AND NOT THE WORD OF GOD. I think you need to reread what CDBJ wrote in response to your inquiry. Do not look at scripture out of context. Jesus is talking about those who have money and will not separate themselves from it. Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! [KJV] They were astonished at what He had just said and . . . Mark 10:24-25 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! [25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [KJV] He is taking about the love of money. And of course anything we love above God is an idol. God is a jealous God and does not like it when His children love something more than Him. Mark 10:26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? [KJV] They did not understand His sayings (since it is the desire of man to be rich, we think it is the end of all our troubles). Mark 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. [KJV] Man cannot remove himself from the love of money, masn cannot save himself. But God can do anything Here is where we get to it. Peter says what about us? We gave it all up to follow you. I had a great fishing business, John and James also, Matthew was a Tax Collector and we all know they have lots of money. Every one of us walked away from good jobs and houses and family. (All my additions not found in scripture). Mark 10:29-31 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, [30] But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. [31] But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. [KJV] I'm gonna tell you God does supply all my needs. He has given me a new family and yes mi casa es su casa. When I have been in need my brothers and sisters in the Lord have responded and I have not gone in want. Our attitude though must be answered by the question, "How poor are you willing to be for Jesus?" The answer is a heart condition. Seek first His Kingdom and righteousness and all this will be provided. That is a reality in the life of the believer not a promise to come. Does that make it clearer? Or are you after some lands and houses and money instead of our Lord. IN THE LOVE OUR LORD Asis |
