61 | children of Israel was to do | OT general | prayon | 73095
Greetings Mes, God told the Isrealites to do 3 things as you mentioned: 1) Beware of Him, 2) obey His voice, and 3) do not provoke Him. I want to add that the angel was more than likely the pre-incarnate Christ. Verse 21 also tells us that if we do not obey Him that He would not forgive our transgressions, and it says that "My name is in Him. Only God can forgive sins, so the "Him" has to be a part of God which would leave either Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Since Jesus is our intercessor before God it has to be HIm. No one else could qualify. I hope this answers your question. prayon |

63 | Who are the scribes? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 5013
I believe that the scribes could be many different people today. One could be the judges because they interpret the law. Or it could be anyone who interprets the scriptures, pastors included. Any other ideas?
64 | I need answers to several questions . | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 5723
Srbaegon, I can not pass up a reply to your answer to CJS first question. "Let every woman learn silence with full submission." To understand this verse in its full context you must look at the situation Paul and Timothy were facing. First century Jewish culture women were not allowed to study and therefore had not true knowledge and understanding of the scriptures. 1Tim 2:11 says let a woman LEARN in silence with full submission. Paul is giving the women an amazing new opportunity here. He did not want them (the Ephesian women who he was addressing) to teach because they didn't yet have enough knowledge or experience. Some take this passage to mean that women should not be allowed to teach in the church. However, some commentaries say that Paul's words can be translated into "I am not permitting". Paul did not forbid women from ever teaching men. Paul's commended co-worker, Pricilla, taught Apollos, who was a great preacher (Acts 18:24-26). Also Paul also mentioned other women who held positions of responsibility in the church. Phoebe was a deacon (Roman 16:1) Mary, Tryphena, and Tryphosa, who were workers are all mentioned in verses 6 or 12. Junia was prominent among the apostles v.7. Aquila worked with Paul v.3, as did Euodias and Syntyche (Phil 4:2). In addition, Paul himself acknowledges that women prayed and prophesied publically (1Cor 11:5) This is not to say at all that women should not submit to her husband. We are instructed to do that by Jesus. I also refer you to Charis questions of April 28th and 29th as to whether Communion should be given every Sunday. God Bless, prayon |

67 | Don't sweat the small stuff? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 9854
I have read what you are responding to. Your statement of "some unimportant historical details in the bible are false" is what I was responding to. There is NOTHING false in the bible. Nor is there nothing unimportant. Every word is there for a reason. It may sound unimportant to us but I have learned that every word backs up something else or has some type of meaning whether physically or symbolically. I am also concerned about how what you have wrote will sound to "baby Christians". prayon |

71 | Does it matter where you go to church ? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 72174
This is true. Before one can rely on the Holy Spirit to give direction in your life you have to know the difference between emotional response and the Spirit's response. I guess I answered you the way I did because my spirit prompted me to. It knew that you would know the difference... :o) prayon

73 | "queen of heaven"? | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 23789
Greetings Nolan! In addition, Ishtar in my commentary states that she was a Mesopotamian goddess of love and war. After the fall of Jerusalemm the refugees from Judah who fled to Egypt continued to worship her (chap. 44). A papyrus dating from the 5th century BC found at Hermopolis in Egypt, mentions the queen of heaven among the gods honored by the Jewish community living there. prayon
74 | please explain proberbs 18:21 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 145296
Greetings Hank, Boy do I feel like I opened the proverbial hornets nest! You are correct, it is not written in any certain verse. I think it is more of faith and may be considered a principle. For example, it you ask God to heal your body you don't keep saying "I'm soo sick" - you say I am healed in the name of Jesus. You speak those things that are not as if they were. In the case of the car, you can't make a car run by claiming it will but if you live by faith that it will, you will take better care of it and in the end it will last longer. You have the faith that God will provide what you are speaking in a matter of sense. Everything that happens is by God's command and God's will only, we ourselves can not change anything. It may be too that God will give us what we speak - for instance if we continually say that we are sick God may give us what we speak and we will become sick. Does this make it a little clearer what I meant to say? prayon |

I will put enmity between.....and hers is indeed referring to the Virgin birth. "And you will strike his heel" is referring to Jesus' death on the cross, but he will strike your head probably refers to Armageddon; the whole prophecy referring to the end times and what God will do to Satan.
