61 | What is iniquity in Matthew 7:23? | Matt 7:23 | gjboone | 73794 | ||
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to respond. Being that Yeshua (Jesus), Peter, John, Matthew and Paul were all Israelites who spoke Hebrew and Aramaic, do you believe the entire New Testament was written in Greek? It is obvious that parts are direct translations of Hebrew idioms. Be that as it may, we can agree that the use of the word "nomos" is referring to the Hebrew concept of "Torah" in various instances throughout the NT (Heb 8:10, Matt 12:5, Rom 3). I am not familiar with the root word "nemo". My source shows "anomia" having its root as "anomos" (Strong's 459). http:bible.crosswalk.com My source also cites a key difference between "anomos" and "anomia" as being the frame of mind of the violator. "Anomos" - departing from the law, a violator of the law. "Anomia" - CONTEMPT and violation of law, iniquity. The people in Matthew 7:23 are severly deceived. They imagine they are doing acceptable works (leaning own their own understanding) but they have willfully disregarded the Living Torah. They are representative of most of Protestant America. Hosea 8:12 "I have written to him the great things of my law (Torah), but they were counted as a strange thing." Yeshua kept Torah, Peter kept Torah, Paul kept Torah, the Centurion kept Torah, what makes Christians exempt? YHWH does not change (Malachi 3:6). Peter 3:15-16 "...our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are **some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction**. Here is the pattern: During the Exodus God's people by putting blood on the doorposts were spared. Then they were called to Mt. Sinai to be given the Ten Commandments (a marriage contract)on how to live as God's children in order to enter the promised land. Blood on the doorposts was UNCONDITIONAL; entering into the promised land was CONDITIONAL upon keeping the commandments. Yeshua paid our sin debt UNCONDITIONALLY by faith; Obtaining eternal life is CONDITIONAL upon keeping the commandments. This is all born out in the scriptures. God does not change, this is consistent with what is pointed out in Revelation 14:12, 22:14 about entering the New Jersualem. Hebrews 5:9 "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;" NOT ALL THAT JUST BELIEVE IN HIM "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." (I Cor 10:12) We are being called out of Babylon. Rev 18:4 You have to receive a love of the truth not to be deceived. (2Thess 2:10-11) I pray YHWH anoint thine eye with eyesalve that thou mayest see. Shalom, Greg Boone |

Can we agree that the author of Hebrews is quoting from Jeremiah 31:33? If we can then the word translated as "law" in Hebrews 8:10 is the Hebrew word "Torah" (Strong's 8451). Agreed? Then it is no great leap to conceive that a form of the root word (nomos)is also refering to Torah. Conceptually, the meaning of Torah does not change across covenants. Torah is God's revelation, instruction and guidance to man on how to relate to God, family, community, etc. as outlined in the first 5 books of the Hebrew scriptures and further embellished by Yeshua (Jesus) during the sermon on the mount. With this in mind, let us realize that Yeshua is talking about Torah (law) in the beginning of the sermon on the mount (Matt 5:17) and at the end of the sermon (Matt 7:27). What else is he going to preach to thousands of Jews but Torah? Aside from being our Redeemer, He was also a Jewish Rabbi(teacher from the tribe of Judah). Protestant apologists try and distance the true Hebraic roots of the faith that Yeshua preached because they are the "lawless" ones, the ones who made up their own religion mixing truth with man-made doctrine (Matt 15:13-14). |
