Dear Norrie, Tim has made some excellent observations and I agree with him up to a point. That point, for me, is when the gospel ceases to be preached. I left my former church because false doctrines were being taught. Worship had degraded into entertainment. Emotionalism was equated with spirituality. I spoke to the pastor, but was not satisfied with his response. It pained me to leave, but I had no choice. I could'nt go there again. I just could'nt bring myself to listen to the man-pleasing drivel any longer! God moved me to a new church. If He wills that you move on (as He did me) you will feel much the same way as I did. You just won't be able to worship there any longer. Trust in Him, John |

64 | Prayer without an Answer??? | John 17:23 | John Reformed | 101827
Actually, the pentacostal "baptism of the Holy Spirit" is a recent doctrine. Up until the 19th century the church believed that all believers have been baptized by the Holy Spirit upon being "born again". The evidence of speaking in tongues had never been taught until recently, and that by fringe groups. John |

Dear Ken, "If, doesn't become a "seal of completion" until I have overcome...the evil one." What are you talking about? It seems that you are saying that your overcoming of Satan is that which seals your position in Christ. Is that right; is that what you believe? "ergo, my wilderness experience; my opportunity to reveal my allegiance to Father Since when does God need to have anything "revealed" to Him? I'd appreciate it you would answer these questions for me. John |

66 | Spiritually, who are the seven churches? | 2 Tim 3:16 | John Reformed | 101822
Dear Comp, Your preaching to the choir my friend. I am sol scriptura all the way! I did not mean to infer that the letters were for the 7 churches exclusively. My point is that we should not add to Scripture meanings that are not explicit. In this particular case, saying that the 7 churches are the Bride may be harmless, but it is the propensity to spiritualize without warrent that is the problem I'm concerned with. You failed to address my observation on Rev 1:20 "As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. John says that the lampstands represent the 7 churches but, makes no mention of who the 7 churches represent. As I said it may, in this case be a harmless assumption. But, it is also an unwarrented one. John |

Dear Norrie, It tells me that your church may be on a slippery slope. I pray God will use this situation as a means by which you will be blessed. I've been in a similar circumstance. God used it to bring me to a greater knowledge of Himself. James 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, John |

69 | Titus 3:5 regeneration help please | John 3:3 | John Reformed | 101765
Impart 1. To bestow a share or portion of; to give, grant, or communicate; to allow another to partake in; as, to impart food to the poor; the sun imparts warmth. If I impart information to you, you recieve it immediately. Of course it may take some time to digest. The natural man does not recieve spiritual things (1 Cor 2:14). Therefore, regeneration must occur prior to recieving. Regeneration is a function of God's soveriegn will and according to His good pleasure (Is 46:10). Once a person has been born again, the eyes, ears, and will are alive to spiritual truth. This person has been freed from the captivity of Satan who has controlled him up until this miracle of Go has set him free. It is at this point that he is able to desire Christ and to freely worship Him as his God and Saviour (Ezek 36:26). We do have a part in sanctification, but even then we are dependent on grace to do that which pleases God. We strive to be holy, but even our striving is Christ working on us through His Spirit (Eph 2:10). Life is not about us. It is about God. He created us for His purpose which was to glorify Himself. Humbling, is'nt it? It should cause us to fall on our faces in sheer gratitude for His having chosen such miserable specimens as ourselves. Is 43:6-8 "I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' And to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring My sons from afar And My daughters from the ends of the earth, Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made. Bring out the people who are blind, even though they have eyes, And the deaf, even though they have ears." God Bless, John |

Dear Norrie, Is it any wonder that the evangelical church is so ineffective in bringing our society back to righteousness? I am appalled that a church would set aside the preaching of Scripture in favor of a man's book during a worship service. John 4:23,24 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." 2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, Titus 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. 72 | Spiritually, who are the seven churches? | 2 Tim 3:16 | John Reformed | 101744
Answer: "Spiritually - the bride." What necessitates attaching a "spiritual" meaning to the "seven churches". The letters themselves are quite practical. Rev 1:20 "As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. John did not say that the 7 churches are the bride. By doing so are we not adding to revelation our own idea? If it was intended to convey that idea, would John not have recorded it? I don't mean to be petty, but, so much has been written into the passages of Revelation that it bothers me. Just my thinking on the interpretation... John Reformed |

"Truth as I know is Jesus not the scripture" John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." One CANNOT seperate Jesus and Scripture. John said in John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,". (though they were inspired, but if scripture is the truth then why the multitude of conflicting interpretations?" My only answer is that we all have a long way to go before we are free from our sin natures. It is the remnant of our "old man" that hampers our ability to understand perfectly God's Word. No the King James was not the first Bible. I don't know of anyone that has made such a claim. "I personally disagree on your theory that God seems to be imperfect." Please re-read my post, I made no such claim. God is perfect and anyone saying otherwise is a fool as well as a heretic. John Reformed |

76 | Will suicide condem my soul to hell? | Bible general Archive 2 | John Reformed | 101727
"In Romans 9 the potter and clay is demonstration of God's ability to use created man to accomplish his will."...I agree "for who resists His will (v19). "It is not a lesson in Salvation."...It is a lesson in God's sovereignty in all things pertaining to His creatures " I have always read it more as explanation of why some are born handicapped... talented, rich, poor, smart or slow. Why some people seem to be disposed to accomplish things and others willing to ride the waves."...If your interpretation is correct, and Chapt 9 is about God's providence, who are the vessels of honor and who are the vessels of wrath? "God harden Pharaoh’s heart this we know but do we know Pharaoh’s eternal condition? No."... I think the Bible gives us the answer in Ezek 32:32 "Though I instilled a terror of him in the land of the living, yet he will be made to lie down among the uncircumcised along with those slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his hordes," declares the Lord GOD. " We see Essau and Jacob where God said he hated (hated here means he knew Essau would think so little of his inheritance) Essau, yet none of us knows Essau’s eternal condition." ....Heb 12:15,16 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. "In this passage God is saying he choose the children of Abraham to bless, which He did by allowing them to be in the lineage of Jesus"....Rom 9:8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants." Paul is telling us that the promise has not failed those to whom the promise was intended (i.e.. the children of the promise who are not saved because they were born to a particular father, but rather, so that God's purpose in election might stand.) Rom 9:13 Just as it is written, "JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED." "but once again are all Abraham’s children saved? No Are all Abraham’s children lost ? No once again this passage is not talking about Salvation but rather how God uses all of creation to accomplish His purpose."....Frankly, I am at a loss as to how to respond to this particular statement. "Also in the example is the clay pot a inanimate object, however in us God created emotions and responses such as rebellion, rejection, hatred, love, acceptance and repentance. But most of all faith and the ability to pray. Both faith and prayer effects the outcome of many things." ...Paul seemed to find pottery an appropriate example. Afterall, we are formed from the dust of the earth . The fact that God breathed life into us and created us in His image proves to me His greatness as a Potter. I can't understand how you could say that these pots are not representative of mankind! (The elect and the reprobate). Thanks, John |

78 | Will suicide condem my soul to hell? | Bible general Archive 2 | John Reformed | 101691
Dear George, Is 53:10 But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the GOOD PLEASURE of the LORD will prosper in His hand. Phil 2:13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His GOOD PLEASURE. If I seem "wishy washy" it is my reluctance to go beyond Scripture. I also find it impossible to believe that man is the author and the finisher of his own faith. The Bible says Jesus is responsible for our faith (Heb 12:2). I realize that if one presumes that man is ultimately the one who decides his own fate, then, rejecting Christ and salvation makes sense. The problem I have is that it conflicts with too many passages that speak of God's soveriegnty. I don't see the idea that man can successfully resist God's will as glorifying to God. If God cannot keep His New Creatures from rebelling, He then appears weak and subject to defeat. I find this view obnoxious and man glorifying! How can a lump of clay do anything apart from the will of the Potter? Take another look ay Rom 9 and John 6 just for starters. John |

No, Romans 13 does not prohibit lawfull behaviour. A politician (who happens to be a christian) has the same freedom to vote his conscience as any one else. Politicians are part of the goverment. They have been duly elected and given authority to make or change laws, raise revenues etc. John |
