61 | Parallels? | Ps 119:1 | prazn | 85879
Thanks for the encouragement, Popdzl. It is not possible to follow Christ (the Word made flesh) and not study the Bible, because Jesus says: John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. John 15:9 "Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. John 15:10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. Stay blessed! |

62 | Isaiah 9:6 | Is 9:6 | prazn | 85869
According to the Brown-Driver-Brigg's Hebrew Lexicon, the Word "Father" in the Hebrew means "Originator" or "Producer". However the key word to focus on in the text is "Everlasting". "Everlasting", in the Hebrew, means "eternal" Isaiah referred to Jesus as "The Everlasting Father". Meaning, He has always been our Father and will always be our Father. Jesus said,"I and the Father are one." John 10:30 Jesus also said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" John 14:9 |

63 | can a women preach and teach men | 1 Tim 2:12 | prazn | 85865
Actually, God's word says that there should not be many teachers (I presume that this means of either gender): "Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." James 3:1 The only One who can correctly teach a born-again believer is the Holy Spirit: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." John 14:26 |

65 | was jonathan faithful to GOD | 1 Sam 18:1 | prazn | 85801
Jonathan was faithful to David, not because of his love for God, but because of his love for David. (see 1 Samuel 18:1) However, Jonathan was acting according to the will of God, for the Lord had already chosen and anointed David to be king over Israel before the end of Saul's reign. (see 1 Samuel 16:13) God has a plan and purpose for every human being on this planet. Whether we are aware of His plans for our lives, or not. He is, afterall, our Sovereign Lord and Creator. Below are a couple of verses to support what I just wrote: "For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH." Romans 9:17 "for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure" Philippians 2:13 |

66 | Download from God? | Genesis | prazn | 85792
If the preacher did not provide a scriptural reference for his statement, it is impossible to interpret what he meant by that phrase. This is why it is so important to read the Word of God for yourself. The Lord Himself, through the Holy Spirit, will teach you as you study the Bible. If you don't understand a Scripture, ask the Holy Spirit and He will illumine your mind. It may not be an instaneous revelation, but the Lord will reveal the Truth of His Word to you, as you are able to receive it. "...the Spirit of truth, ...will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak..." (John 16:13) God bless you. |

68 | Rev. 19:10 - "spirit of prophecy"? | Rev 19:10 | prazn | 85690
Sarah, The verse that you referenced refers to the apostle John and the angel who revealed the prophecy to him. Rev 1:1-3 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. NAS The following is from Barnes' Notes, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1997: Rev 19:10 [For the testimony of Jesus] The meaning here seems to be, that this angel, and John, and their fellow-servants, were all engaged in the same work that of bearing their testimony to Jesus. Thus, in this respect, they were on a level, and one of them should not worship another, but all should unite in the common worship of God. No one in this work, though an angel, could have such a pre-eminence that it would be proper to render the homage to him which was due to God alone. There could be but one being whom it was proper to worship, and they who were engaged in simply bearing testimony to the work of the Saviour should not worship one another. [Is the spirit of prophecy] The design of prophecy is to bear testimony to Jesus. The language does not mean, of course, that this is the only design of prophecy, but that this is its great and ultimate end. The word "prophecy" here seems to be used in the large sense in which it is often employed in the New Testament-meaning to make known the divine will (see the notes on Rom 12:6), and the primary reference here would seem to be to the preachers and teachers of the New Testament. The sense is, that their grand business is to bear testimony to the Saviour. They are all-whether angels, apostles, or ordinary teachers-appointed for this, and therefore should regard themselves as "fellow-servants." The design of the angel in this seems to have been, to state to John what was his own specific business in the communications which he made, and then to state a universal truth applicable to all ministers of the gospel, that they were engaged in the same work, and that no one of them should claim adoration from others. Thus understood, this passage has no direct reference to the prophecies of the Old Testament, and teaches nothing in regard to their design, though it is in fact undoubtedly true that their grand and leading object was to bear testimony to the future Messiah. But this passage will not justify the attempt so often made to "find Christ" everywhere in the prophecies of the Old Testament, or justify the many forced and unnatural interpretations by which the prophecies are often applied to him. |

69 | Scriptures about striving to grow? | Phil 2:12 | prazn | 85678
Here a few, JRM, 2 Peter 1:5-11 in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge; 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness; 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. NAS Rom 12:9-21 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. NAS Eph 4:17-5:1 17 This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. 25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you, with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28 Let him who steals steal no longer; but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need. 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. 70 | Proverbs 3 vs 1 - 12 | Prov 3:5 | prazn | 85512
Are you specifically referring to Proverbs 3:5-7, which states: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil."? If so, that scripture provides the answer itself. As Christians we are to trust in the Lord to tell us how to live this life. We demonstrate our reliance upon Him by praying to Him and reading the Bible. The Lord speaks to us through the Bible and through His Holy Spirit. Jer 8:9 declares the folly of relying upon our own wisdom ( or human reasoning) in living the Christian life: "The wise men are put to shame, They are dismayed and caught; Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD, And what kind of wisdom do they have?" Hope this helps. |

71 | No, the dead are still DEAD...not alive! | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 85452
Not all churchgoers believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and, consequently, they have not been saved. Because these people either cannot, or refuse to, believe in our risen Lord or to receive Him as their personal Savior they will not have eternal life (i.e., go to heaven). Their hearts have been hardened to the Truth and are spiritually dead (see 1 Cor 2:14). "The promise" spoken of in the final verse of the scripture that you referenced is the promise of the resurrection of the dead in Christ at the sound of the last trumpet (1 Thess 4:16), when we who believe and have been saved shall be raised in our glorified bodies. Heb 11:40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect. NAS |

72 | The Bible Definition of a soul is what? | Bible general Archive 1 | prazn | 85418
Lev 17:10-11 11'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; NAS Before Christ, man made atonement for his sins by sacrificing animals. This verse uses the word "soul" rather than "sin". This could be because it is with our soul that we sin against God. We sin against God by being disobedient to His will for our lives. How do we disobey God? By following our own way, rather than His. That means that we make a "conscious" choice to disobey the Lord. To make a conscious choice we must have thought about our actions; experienced certain emotions about our actions; and decided to disobey. So, we can conclude that we reason with our soul; we feel emotions with our soul; and we decide with our soul. So, the soul is our intellect, emotions and will. Gen 35:16-20 16 Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor. 17 And it came about when she was in severe labor that the midwife said to her, "Do not fear, for now you have another son." 18 And it came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin. 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). 20 And Jacob set up a pillar over her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel's grave to this day. NAS This verse indicates that the soul leaves the body at death. Luke 16:19-17:1 19 "Now there was a certain rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, gaily living in splendor every day. 20 "And a certain poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man's table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22 "Now it came about that the poor man died and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 "And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 "And he cried out and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.' 25 "But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, in order that those who wish to come over from here to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.' 27 "And he said, 'Then I beg you, Father, that you send him to my father's house-- 28 for I have five brothers-- that he may warn them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' 29 "But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' 30 "But he said, 'No, Father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!' 31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.'" NAS Jesus told this parable to the pharisees during His time on earth. In it, He mentions only two realms; heaven and hell. There are no verses in the NASB (or any other commonly used Bible translation) that contain the words "purgatory", "hereafter" or "reincarnation". Nor are any references to these spiritual realms addressed within the Bible. Jesus was resurrected. |
