62 | Did thes boys die of starvation | Acts 23:12 | khuck | 102652
Shalor, This commentary may shed some light on the likely outcome of this oath. Such execrable vows as these were not unusual among the Jews, who, from their perverted traditions, challenged to themselves a right of punishing without any legal process, those whom they considered transgressors of the law; and in some cases, as in the case of one who had forsaken the law of Moses, they thought they were justified in killing them. They therefore made no scruple of acquainting the chief priests and elders with their conspiracy against the life of Paul, and applying for their collusion and support; who, being chiefly of the sect of the Sadducees, and the apostle's bitterest enemies, were so far from blaming them for it, that they gladly aided and abetted them in this mode of dispatching him. On its failure they soon afterwards determined to making a similar attempt. (ch. 2 25:2, 3.) If these were, in their bad way, conscientious men, they were under no necessity of perishing for hunger, when the providence of God had hindered them from accomplishing their vow; for their vows of abstinence from eating and drinking were as easy to loose as to bind, any of their wise men or Rabbis had power to absolve them, as Dr. Lightfoot has shown from the Talmud. Hoping this to be insightful. -khuck |

63 | Question about God n pressurs/growing up | Eph 6:4 | khuck | 102651
The Bible gives serveral references on how we are to raise our children through the stages of youth. http://www.geocities.com/ambassadors4christ/family/sfparenting.html There are several really good Christian online resources that deal with the pressures that our children are faced with daily, offering Biblical solutions and references. One of my personal favorites is Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the family. I listen to the radio program whenever possible. There are some great articles with Bible references on their "Focus on Your Child" website! http://www.focusonyourchild.com/ All you and your child need, is truly in Christ... I know you will find it, beacause you diligently seek it:) God Bless you! -khuck PS Forgive me if I make an erroneous assumption that you are a parent. These Dobson resources are pertinent to youth who may seek solutions to todays problems. http://www.briomag.com/ http://www.family.org/teenguys/breakmag/ http://www.family.org/lote/lotelive/ |

65 | Please help with Nimrud question | Genesis | khuck | 102617
Greetings Warstom77 I found nothing regarding Sarah in my net research, but there were tombs of three queens excavated. There is information here regarding the well of which you inquired, and an explaination on Biblical reference to Nimrud. (patience please; this a a cut and paste job) The Arabs called it Nimrud after Nimrod, the biblical mighty hunter, father of Ashur (Assur), the Assyrian hero whose name explains why Assyrians are called Assyrians. Ashurnasirpal moved to Nimrud from Assur, preferring its convenient defensive site near the junction of the Tigris and the Greater Zab. Sir Max Mallowan, who excavated here after the Second World War, says of Nimrud in his book Mallowan's Memoirs (Collins, 1977): 'There is no more beautiful mound in all Assyria than Nimrud, a lonely spot still untouched by modern development. Among many other things Mallowan discovered much perfect treasure in two deep wells. And what Mallowan found in his wells has now been added to by further finds by the experts of the Iraqi Directorate-General of Antiquities. Among other discoveries too numerous to detail here were royal filing cabinets, relating to taxation and customs duties. One tablet recorded the inspection of thirty-six thousand two hundred and forty-two bows which, Mallowan says, implies an army of at least twice. that: so Nimrud could have had a population of one hundred thousand. During the spring of 1989, continuing excavations at Nimrud under Iraqi direction discovered a tomb chamber under the "harem" of Ashurnasirpal's palace. The tomb contained the remains of two women covered with the remnants of dark textiles decorated with gold rosettes and beads. The bodies were interred with a wealth of gold jewelry, including a crown, a headband of woven links, amulets, and solid gold bracelets encrusted with precious stones. The names of two Babylonian kings inscribed on some of the objects indicate that they may be of southern Mesopotamian origin. Additional finds from the tomb include cylinder seals, a stone funerary tablet, and inscribed bowls, four made of gold and one made of a rare, transparent rock crystal. Each bowl is inscribed with the name of one of three previously unknown Assyrian queens, Yabâ, Banîti, and Atalia. While the grave goods indicate that they belonged to three queens, the remains of only two individuals have been recovered. The contents of one of the several vessels inside the tomb were analyzed and identified as cremated human remains, possibly of the third queen named in the inscription. The objects found in the tombs remain in Iraq. see: httpwww.metmuseum.org/explore/anesite/html/el_ane_xcavatio.htm http://www.learningsites.com/NWPalace/NWPalhome.html http://www.geocities.com/iraqinfo/ I hope this information was of some help. -khuck |

66 | Are you onced saved always saved? | John | khuck | 102486
Hello I -Heaven bound I was reading at http://johnmyers.com And your question was asked and answered: Bible Question: Can you lose your salvation? Bible Answer: The short answer is no, because according to the Bible, our salvation as believers in Jesus Christ is not ours in the first place, it's God's salvation. Salvation is entirely God's work and not ours, so we can't lose it. When David, the king of Israel, sinned with Bathsheba, he was guilty not only of adultery, but also murder, as he arranged the death of Bathsheba's husband, Uriah, to cover up the origin of the birth of his son with Bathsheba. But David repented of his sins, asked for forgiveness, and recorded his prayer in Psalm 51. And he prays in Psalm 51:12, "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation." David was still God's child, and he knew God was still his heavenly Father, but he knew he had lost the joy of salvation by allowing sin to stop his fellowship with God. But since it wasn't his work, but God's work that saved him, he prayed for God to restore the joy of His salvation. Perhaps the clearest New Testament verses on this truth are written by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. "According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each take heed how he builds on it. "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ," 1 Cor. 3:10-11 says. The foundation Paul refers to in verse 10 is the doctrine of grace, which God revealed to him and which he preached. But he notes in verse 11 that even that powerful doctrine rests on the one true foundation, Jesus Christ. There's the foundation of our faith and our salvation, the death of Jesus on the cross to pay for all of our sins. "Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw," 1 Cor. 3:12 says. Here's our part, our works which we do after we are saved, and Paul gives six examples, three unburnable types of works, gold, silver and precious stones; and three types of works which can be burned up, wood, hay and straw. "Each one's work will become manifest; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is," 1 Cor. 3:13 says. The "Day" Paul refers to is the day of judgment for believers, and what will be tested by God's consuming fire that day will not be our salvation - that is already settled in Christ when we first believed - but our life's works. "If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire," 1 Cor. 3:14-15 says. If our works are gold, silver or precious stones, they will be refined and made even purer, with any impurities burned away, and we receive rewards for those works. But anything done of less than pure motives of love for Christ will be burned up on that day, like wood, hay and straw, when tested by God's consuming fires of judgment. Yet look at the last words of 1 Cor. 3:15, "but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire." The believer who sees his life's works burned up, nothing of any lasting value remaining to receive any rewards, yet because he trusted in Christ, that believer will still be saved, Paul says. But he adds a terrible imagery, "yet so as through fire." I picture someone escaping from a burning building, with even their clothes burned from their body, yet they escape by the skin of their teeth, still alive though naked. That's the most amazing picture of God's grace I can imagine, that He would still save someone who never did a single work for Him, only because he has trusted in Jesus. So what do you think? I personally agree with this -khuck |

Hello Christian, I am not sure that you read Shalor's 2nd post to you, but he or she nipped it in the bud. what needed to be reconciled in heaven and in the earth is the relationship between God and man. Of course Shalor elaborated with better detail this answer and it was given more eloquently than I have ability to relay. 69 | can all churches worship together as one | 1 Cor 11:18 | khuck | 102482
Greeting Vanaau Even with the divisions mentioned in the Scripture you used (1 Cor 11:18), Paul is referring to the One Church, the Body of Christ. He is speaking to the Church congregation in Corinth. If you read the entire chapter in context, he is admonishing behavior that caused riffs in that congregation. Some of which we still see in the modern Church. But if I am understanding you correctly, then the answer would be that he is not speaking of a one world church, in this verse. If I have misunderstood you I apologize. -khuck |

70 | How do I pray for myself? | Mark 11:24 | khuck | 102365
Jesus gave many examples of how we should pray... when I pray for myself I include the prayer from Matthew 6. (known as The Lord's Prayer) Jesus assures us in v.8 that the Father already knows what we need before we ask. v.5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. v.6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. v.7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. v.9 "This, then, is how you should pray:" 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, v.10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in eaven. v.11 Give us today our daily bread. v.12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. v.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ' v.14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. v.15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. also the Lord used this parable as an example of how we should pray From Luke 18 v.9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: v.10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. v.11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. v.12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' v.13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' v.14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." These are things that I keep in mind when I pray for myself. -khuck |

71 | How to pray for my my troubled siste | Mark 11:24 | khuck | 102363
Hi Estella, Your sister sounds as if she may be suffering from depression. Not that I am a professional in the field of Psychiatry, but I openly admit that I have suffered this condition. I can identify with all that you have written. As far as how to pray for her... I suggest that you pray the sincere petition that you have posted here, doing as the Lord directed in th 11th Chapter of Mark. v.24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. v.25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Jesus said we should give thanks, praying as if we have already received our request (pray with faith, knowing that He has heard our petition and with the confidence that He has given what we have asked.) I hope that this will be of some help. I pray God's peace be upon you and your dear sister. -khuck |

72 | what does john 14:7 talk about | John 14:7 | khuck | 102336
Here Jesus is stating His oneness with God. He is answering a question posed by Thomas in v.5 In v.9 he responds to Phillip further substantiating His oneness in God the Father. v.5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" v.6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. The very statement "I AM" reveals God in Christ. It can easily Translate "God the way and the truth and the life." No one can come to God except thru the person of God the Son. v.7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." v.8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." v.9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? v.10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. v.11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; In John 10 Jesus goes on to say that He and God are one in the same. v.27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. v.28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. v.29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. v.30 I and the Father are one." Therefore it speaks of the Deity of the Christ, Jesus. My belief and point of view. -khuck |

73 | Jehonadab, What Think Ye of Christ? | John 14:7 | khuck | 102295
I may be answering a question posed to someone else yet as a new user, I am compelled to respond and add my belief. This from NIV In John 14, Jesus answers the deity question. 1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." 8Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." 9Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? Furthermore even before His birth Isaiah referred to Jesus... the "SON" who was to come to us, as "THE EVERLASTING FATHER" Isaiah 9:6 NIV 6 For to us a child is born,to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Also Isaiah foretold that redemption and salvation would come only by the suffering of The Christ Isaiah 53 NIV 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. 11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. So my response: Truly He is God the Son, and God the Father! The Word substantiates that He is our ONLY salvation (none of us can fulfill the law). All of this being true then it stands to reason that no one comes to the Father except by the Christ, Jesus! -Khuck |
